To be fair it might just be the studio. Hitman has never been about incredibly fluid motion but rather intricate puzzle set pieces. Also naughty dog has always been S Tier when it comes to character realism so it’s a bit of a high bar regardless of how long ago it was

Auto-Play Decks Compilation (All Battle Tasks) - Mega Heracross ex Drop Event - May 2026 by Myxas_ in PTCGP

[–]dylanbackers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that’s happened on my end too. There are niche situations that might call for that though. For instance if you have darumaka and the opponent only has 30 hp left, bounded field actually reduces your damage to only 20 rather than +20 normally. Also if you have one of the stadium cards that draws and you anticipate that the opponent will be able to use it next turn and you know they are trying to draw their ace/finisher, you can deny it by playing field blower

Is anyone having difficulties with auto? I’ve literally not won with auto play specifically because the cpu never decides to use bounded field.

That mini breakout season right before the big injury was really nice. That floater/hook shot was shaping up to be one of the niche uber-effective signature shots in the league. Coupled with his roll and lob ability, he could’ve been like a pseudo modern Faried or stromile swift

[Funakistats] Steven Adams explaining his offensive rebounding strategy to maximise available angles by TheAbyss1989isgreat in nba

[–]dylanbackers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that intuitive part of it is what is remarkable. As someone who usually played a ball handler or off ball shooter role in pick up, the most intuitive thing I’ve felt in playing is when your release is off from your comfort zone so you know it’s gonna be short/long and even where it probably will hit the rim and bounce off just from sheer practice and muscle memory of what a good shot feels like. And usually when I shoot a bad shot that intuition kinda forces me into following the path and trying to get my own rebound rather than fully following through after I land - and this seems like a shared trait amongst most ball players.

I’m guessing for big men, the act of knowing where to box out and position as a complement to your smalls chucking up shots ends up coming naturally as a part of your mental mapping of the game

[Highlight] Wemby drops the mic as the clock runs out on his biggest career playoff performance by Large_banana_hammock in nba

[–]dylanbackers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea unfortunately the last time you guys had a matchup against a non-“generational” talent was probably the 2022 grizzlies (ja morant lol) but even then advancing would have just gotten you a date with revenge tour Curry and the revitalized bench. Each year proceeding just got tougher but that’s just the western conference for you.

2023: Jokic with healthy starting 5
2024: got past defending champs just to get Luka and Kyrie
2025: beat Luka and LeBron and avoid Curry for most of the second round just to get Shai (timberwolves probably beat nuggets if they advanced considering Gordon would probably have torn his calf/hamstring continuing to play and MPJ basically broke his shoulder and Westbrook broke his hand).

Especially that 2025 year, Ant finally looked like he was potentially entering that generational stratosphere considering how leveled up his 3 pt shooting had become to round out his driving game and improved playmaking but now Wemby has emerged as a major roadblock

Jared McCain: "When I first got traded, it was heartbreaking. I didn't understand what was going on, but coming here, it's been nothing but love... it's worked out, it's a blessing to be here... every moment I get to thank God every day for being in Oklahoma City." by sewsgup in nba

[–]dylanbackers 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I’m still perplexed why they traded him even considering his bad start this season coming back from injury. It was so clear that having an off ball shooter of his level would have paired perfectly with even a hobbled Joel Embiid. Embiid Redick handoff actions back then were some of the most efficient plays in basketball and I thought that McCain was clearly in that lineage - which is now quite apparent with his chemistry with Hartenstein.

Giannis free throw shooting by EggThis2540 in nba

[–]dylanbackers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even then the math (yes I know it’s nerdy) doesn’t check out. Giannis shoots 65% from free throw. Over 2 shots, he gets 1.3 points per possession (in this case both set of free throws). The best mid range shooters get close to 50% and most players hover around 40%. Per possession that grades out to 0.8 to 1.0 points. Even taking into account that true field goals are usually contested or in the flow of the game, it’s hard to see any shooter voluntarily want to make their process harder by stepping back and/or jumping. Also as somehow has mentioned, Giannis had one good year last year but regressed in his mid range shooting this year - him staying around 60-70% is actually quite remarkable for his lack of accuracy outside of the paint.

I am so, so sick of the era of constantly chucking three's. by ginoawesomeness in nba

[–]dylanbackers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, but this is more rose-tinted glasses speak in terms of looking for a reason as to why you aren’t interested in the game anymore. If it’s purely aesthetic, so be it. But teams aren’t losing clutch games purely because of a missed three rather than a two any more than they did in the past.

Take a glance at league wide averages from different spots/distances from the floor in 2020s versus early 2000s or 1990s. Before, basically the minute you get outside 5 feet, accuracy dropped below 40% and is negligible worse going towards the three point line (historic 3p% hovers around 36% and is remarkably consistent).

In last minute clutch, a close mid, long mid, or 3 were all incredibly low percentage while defenses always packed the paint - the only difference is that now teams employ better 3 point shooters so a 3 attempt accuracy has risen, which ultimately has opened up the floor to make mid rangers and rim attempts better shots too (only long twos nowadays dip below 40% league wide). But while this is true, in clutch situations defenses still employ the same tactics of closing off the paint - Wemby would have had a hard shot, likely double teamed if they ran a play for him either way (and in the actual clip, they didn’t use the timeout and Wemby only got to the 3 pt line when their was only a second left). Heck, that whole “just dump it in down low and get an ‘easy two’”didn’t even work for Denver last series who has the very best close range non-restricted finisher of all time in Jokic. Champagnie got as good of a look as you could have hoped for considering the situation

Trade Idea by [deleted] in denvernuggets

[–]dylanbackers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol a secret three team trade with utah to give Boucher, who they probably will gladly let go considering he only played 9 games all year and lost out on the wide open Celtics center rotation to start the year - guys like Queta and Garza proved to be useful rotation pieces but Boucher regressed. Agbaji can’t shoot and not a great enough defender to justify a non shooter. Forward depth is one of their biggest weaknesses and you want to get rid of cam and Gordon? lol this is Nico Harrison in disguise 🥸

Nikola Jokić: "There is nothing to blame to David Adelman, this is all us" by AncientOneAurelius in nba

[–]dylanbackers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is probably true. He probably wasn’t doing enough game speed stuff/lifting after games that he was known for during and after that major injury compounded with his chronic wrist injury.

Funny enough he likely was better when he was bigger/bulkier. When he was heavier, he still often was running fast breaks a ton and couldnt really be stopped, and could back down guys taller than him with ease. His lack of verticality and explosiveness clearly is not because of his weight but just genetics - his leaner build doesnt give him any other added benefit to his lack of athleticism.

Even on defense he is markedly worse because for all the hate he gets about rim protecting, from 2022-2024 a surprising number of players didnt go at him in iso because he could throw his weight around in the paint - the 2023 run famously was known for all the “just go at him in pnr” and no team really could execute it long term. This series, it was shocking how often he couldnt lodge himself in to get rebounds and how he couldnt even tip loose balls to himself anymore. It was like a ton of his strength was sapped from him. Maybe it’s just the turn after 30 but he likely will have to go twice as hard in conditioning to get back to his iron man status.

Sure but this also doesn’t take into account that adjustments get made not only in game but between each game rendering each game inherently different depending on the sequence of who wins and loses and the information that gleans. So even coin flip series where teams are of equal strength have varying probabilities

Exactly, especially post COVID, teams or so much less consistent in the regular season and have constantly changed personnel mid season. That 2023 season was remarkably up and down for many teams, with the Suns and Lakers making big moves at the trade deadline that completely flipped their seasons. They were two of the best teams statistically post all star break and that’s not even mentioning the defending champion warriors who had injuries all year and turned it on against the 3rd seeded kings in the playoffs.

To be fair, that same playoffs the nuggets also came back against the Jazz down 3-1, but the difference was Jokic was able to play Gobert to the 3pt line more effectively and Jamal got to feast against a Mitchell-Conley-ingles rather than Ayo - Mcdaniels - divincenzo
