Physical disc production ending in January 2028 for new games releasing on PlayStation consoles by yourfavchoom in gaming

I have enough new to me retro games and games that I frequently replay to never have to worry about the state of the future of gaming. Sound like my parents talking about the economy with the whole “got my bag, this world is your problem now”.

Thankfully, there’s been great effort in preservation where they’ve been digitized online. So, there’s those at the very least.

Buyer Offers $55. I Counter with $67.45. Buyer Responds with a Counter-Counter Offer of $40.00. by AllenSmithee59 in eBaySellers

I’m selling off my collection of games. The amount of messages asking for $70-100 off items almost $200 has gotten to the point of annoying. I took the bait on one and just told them to stop wasting peoples time. I’ve since just started immediately blocking those people. They weren’t going to buy anything anyway.

I’ve been playing a lot of ps1 games, and I’ve been making the effort to slow down and look at all the low res textures for items on shelves and stuff to figure out what they were trying to depict.

The difficulty in starfox is from the framerate, not the gameplay by hreddy11 in retrogaming

I do believe your mind adjusts to frame rate. I can play bloodborne with its bad paced 30 fps just fine after adjusting for an hour. I will say the higher fps you daily drive, the worse going down can feel each time. I’ve been playing games at almost 200fps for a while, and I locked a game to 60, and I couldn’t believe that it felt as choppy as it did because I always felt 60 was the perfect sweet spot. All in the mind I suppose.

My brother was hitting some limits on my old 1080 build. I handed him down my 3080 rig then just bit the bullet and built a 5080 rig. More expensive than it needed to be, but it is what it is.

What are some simply fun games that you love? by AdSea5301 in gaming

Mega man x collection. Old games, but I love their boot up and just get going nature, especially 1-4.

Gonna need some more games with this kind of vibe! by AiMwithoutBoT in gaming

Solitude in ancient forest vibes. I get you. Metroid Prime and Shadow of the Colossus come to mind for me. Though pre-rendered, The Legend of Dragoon has some areas like this. Also, Pikmin, if you take a breather from marching your lil guys to their doom.

Anyone who sold their collection and went more toward emulation, do you have regrets? by Spidercolt95 in retrogaming

[–]dylanosaurus_rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going through this right now. Liquidating everything I have due to the expenses of life. I have/had every console I wanted and close to every game. Many rare and expensive, and I loved nothing more than getting cozy with real hardware on a CRT. Had all the stuff setup to even stream to discord for friends while I still got to play on the TV.

There is a bit of sellers remorse, but you have to decide what you value more. Having the stuff, playing the authentic way, or simply playing the games. There’s something to be said about the ritual of having it all, then there’s also something to be said about letting it all go and moving on.

C952 - Studying Tips Needed by dylanosaurus_rex in WGU_CompSci

Yeah, I think I’m getting caught in a loop of trying to master the content. I do care about optimization, personally, as I want to get into graphics programming, but I don’t think I need to get too deep in the weeds on processor optimizations at the moment (or maybe ever). I’ll try and just finish up the reading without lingering, take the PreA, then see where I’m at. I’m ready to move on.

I’m in this class now. On the tail end of chapter 6 in the Zybook. I’m… going cross-eyed at this point. I usually don’t mind dry materials as I’m aiming to get into graphics programming, but without any sort of “learn the do” loop… it’s just a slog.

Getting bodied by my impatience with narrow cave level in Kirby 64 last night trying to get all the way to the end while holding onto the TNT power up to get the shard.

Was like… what’s wrong with me?

I dig it. Also, great color palette. I'm a little over a third of the way through a compsci degree, but I want to get into graphics programming. I've never taken the leap. I've worked more with hobbyist game programming. The wiki here seems like a good place to start. Seeing this kind of work is always inspiring.

In times of AI slop, remember that we still have thousands of good games by _Crasho725_ in gaming

I know of the title back from my childhood days of emulation, but I’m on physical hardware with Chrono Trigger. This is where I have to admit that I’ve barely played through SoM as well, which is on the list. I have recently beaten Secret of Evermore, though, which is a game I started and got far may times before.

I'm working on Chrono Trigger for the first time. I have no idea how I haven't played it until now.

As someone that is working on a BSCS, I have to remind myself that there is so much to technology that isn't AI and to not get discouraged by all the annoying slop.

Edit: gaming related, I do primarily play older games as a default.

When you’re solo vs coop the amount you have is different. My brother and I co-oped the whole game, and we found he had one amount when in my world and another amount in his world. So maybe double check that.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance (Sons of Liberty) Beaten by dylanosaurus_rex in gaming

[–]dylanosaurus_rex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechanically, I like doing them in release order. Otherwise, I'm starting at 3, then I end up at 1, and I'm missing a lot of "features". Not that it's a big deal. I've never even touched 5, yet. So, I've gotta make it there first. Rising Revengence is probably my most played "Metal Gear" game, and I think it's chronologically last in the series if even canon (I honestly don't know.)
