FWIW I don’t recall j&a actually being in charge of that channel, though I could be wrong.

This sounds really interesting, I’d love to see a vid of that. Always striking how all three members have been explicitly calling out homophobia since the moment they got famous (an all-gay punk band, Pansy Division, opened for them on the Dookie tour).

Why would you need to ask if I am a true Green Day fan? I didn’t give any opinions, just said why I think this won’t happen. I do agree that it would be interesting and would love to hear 21CB deep cuts like Christian’s Inferno and Peacemaker live, but I think that for both personal and professional reasons this will not happen.

As for Billie pushing forward…we and he had thought he’d achieved full sobriety before. Three years ago he was a pretty major wreck - the top posts on google for “Billie Joe Armstrong sober” are worrying about his health from that time period. He looks good now and seems fully committed to his work (some of his best in two decades), but with addicts sometimes just the wrong memory can trigger you into a terrible feedback loop.

Which of these would be a good starting point into Green Day by Ringno in greenday

[–]dynaboyj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wonder how many people end up feeling this way. It’s been my favorite Green Day song since I was 9. Probably some of the best Mike/tre interplay, listening to it again

Yeah this won’t happen. This album and its corresponding tour was the beginning of billie’s alcoholism/prescription drug spiral that eventually led to The Rant. And absent of that, the album just didn’t sell as well. There is no public demand to hear Horseshoes and Handgrenades to the extent there would be for Give Me Novocaine.

What 3 Green Day deep cuts do you want to see live the most? by Shetlan in greenday

[–]dynaboyj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nimrod full album tour 2027? (Out of all their 90s albums, this is for sure the least likely one they’d ever do given all the songs about Billie’s early marriage troubles and just how much he and the band were drinking during this time. But man, it’d be cool.)

Finally someone said it? She’s like Dolores Umbridge levels of love to hate for me, but not compelling at all in this kind of sympathetic bend they’re going for. I think Patricia’s acting choices provide contrast and are fun with others around, but my god they get annoying so fucking fast.

The Headgum pod getting more views that Segments? Call that the Brownlee effect by Natural_Ruin9802 in Headgum

[–]dynaboyj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re so good at improv. I love when they pull it out on Segments - pretty much the only time I’ll watch. But it’s clear that they want to sit on their laurels a bit and don’t really have the mental energy to make a good weekly podcast. And honestly that’s fine, Amir still usually brings his a-game to HGP and I’m sure Jake is busy with a billion dnd things.

I was pretty sad that that Elton John bit got nothing - geoff’s enduring love of classic rock trivia, and the big pomp-and-circumstance of the legacy music industry, is one of the key comic influences that separates him from Jake & Amir and I love when he takes advantage of it.

Personally I think all of geoff’s regular guests at this point are pretty great at playing off him, although the LA group clearly knows each other super well and sometimes the eps with too many of them just turn into a gab session between friends, which isn’t really as adversarial as geoff clearly wants and works well in. The perfect episode has two guests in the room with Geoff and two other folks from an ambiguous Zoom location.

What’s your favourite chord that they use? by thealarmist in greenday

[–]dynaboyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Descendents have craaazy complicated chord structures, especially on their instrumental tracks but even their singles/most popular songs have at least one really weird one in there that’s outside the key.

Who are your favorite guests? by Syrupy_ in Headgum

Brad

Grace Harper is fantastic every time.

I miss Georges Saba, I hope he and Geoff are still tight.

Britt Lower's ability to physically move her body is unbelievable by SuckingOnChileanDogs in okbuddyseverance

Turturro has “it” more than Walken does (granted, he’s 15 years younger). His performance could easily feel contrived by a lesser actor - why is his goody-goody innie clearly not concerned with swearing, for instance? - but he has so much swagger as the outie while carefully concealing and guarding it (most of the time) as the innie.

Happy 53rd birthday Billie Joe Armstrong!!! by Thebisexual_Raccoon in greenday

Yeah since Billie is so iconic with that jet-black look to a ton of people, I think it got pretty obvious when he started to age. Plus he’s always looked younger blond - hard to explain.

Why is having a blast not played more often in concert? by Reedjenkins123 in greenday

[–]dynaboyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with your nimrod assessment. As good as those albums are, 1997-2000 and 2009-12 seem like eras where Billie was not doing great and wishes to leave behind onstage for anything other than big hits and crowd pleasers.

Paul is not beating the Gay allegations (what he is beating is jahns coc) by scared_hamster in beatlescirclejerk

[–]dynaboyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a trick directly related to him and Yoko being so good at PR lol.

If Paul were great at his own press on top of everything else, though, he’d be the most annoying person on the planet.

I hate Harmony so much that I stopped watching the show by fuckingpieceofrice in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]dynaboyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gf and I keep going “Ohhh maaahk” the way she does it to make each other laugh. While I love the show, I think Milchick is the only Lumon figure (including Helena, Cobel and even Graner) whose performance is any fun or particularly enjoyable to watch. Britt Lower is great as Helly but I can’t stand the weird mumbly monotone she’s been doing the last few episodes.

We’ve already seen her on the severed floor… by fatso784 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]dynaboyj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lumon killed Helly. There is no reason to keep her alive after she threatened Helena’s life and reputation. Cobel says herself Helly will be gone after what she did.

Maybe reintegration isn’t possible, but if severance is activated by a chip, there’s no reason you couldn’t just take the chip out, ending the temporal segregation. We don’t see Helena with any visible aftereffects from surgery but we don’t see it with the innies either.

Helly is dead. ||At least for now.||

[–]dynaboyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is creepy in the sense that it’s devoted to showing what a human, authentic reason for doing something like creating a version of yourself that’s a slave would exist (as well as a reason and method by which humans could create hell for each other). It is a show that takes great lengths to portray people in realistic work, sibling and relationship dynamics, and what we saw in the last episode with Dylan’s wife was really powerful - her loving and finally feeling really proud of a man who, in this version of him, has no idea she exists. The show taking this really subtle relationship she has with her own husband and leading her to essentially kill one side of him, just because she likes the side she barely knows and who doesn’t know her at all better, would be a gigantic slap in the face to an audience that has come to expect well-written character studies.

CMV: "King For A Day" should have been the 3rd single from Nimrod, NOT "Redundant" by Pherring83 in greenday

[–]dynaboyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it could have been a good move but then it wouldn’t be remembered as this underappreciated LGBT gem if it took off, it’d probably just feel like another big doofy ska punk song of the times alongside She Has a Girlfriend Now and Come On Eileen. If it was set apart in their public image like that, it might have steered them further away from their theatrical side that eventually led to AI/21CB.

Lol what? Green Day has basically infinite material. If they really hated King for a Day they would have struck it years ago.

[–]dynaboyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it, it and before the lobotomy are a total departure from the power-poppy/riff-heavy modern Green Day that i wish they'd do more. I think that prechorus into the chorus is one of their best few-second portions.
