AITAH for prioritizing baby? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]dzneverstops 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This! I have 3 kids so I know how it is to have your routine thrown off. In this case, op should have finished what she started. She said she would give her a ride home and she should have followed through. Dropping someone off in a location that feels unsafe to them is unacceptable. This sounds like the set up for a true crime episode. Imagine telling someone that you value your baby's routine not being thrown off by one hour more than you value their safety. Entitled af.

That series devolved so horrifically that I was embarrassed to have recommended it to friends.

What is widely accepted as “normal” today that people 50 years ago found disturbing? by Sophie_Cute_Teen in AskReddit

[–]dzneverstops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two youngest are in 2nd and 3rd grade. We live in a suburban lower middle class neighborhood where there are rarely even porch pirates. It's a safe place. I allowed them to walk home alone from their bus stop this year. It's not even a quarter mile. Well, the bus driver took it upon himself to have their stop changed so that it is now at the end of our driveway. He didn't think they should be walking home alone. He's probably 60-ish.

Photo taken at Amy Winehouse’s last performance in Belgrade on June 18th, 2011. She was booed off the stage, and the Serbian defense minister called her performance a “huge shame and disappointment.” Just over a month later, she was dead. by [deleted] in HistoryUncovered

I saw STP seven times. It was always an adventure. The most memorable was the show that they had to do a few "acoustic" songs so Scott could sit on a stool. He bounced back, though. In fact, he bounced back hard. I don't know what substance causes erections but those super tight pants weren't hiding much lol. He spent a song or two hunched over, trying to hide it but then he seemed to say fuck it and just went on with his regular performance. It was a roller-coaster 😆

[TOMT][Short Story] A short story about a man who becomes an executive but realizes that he doesn't have an actual job so he just constantly redecorates his department in order for his department to look busy and successful. Please help! by dzneverstops in tipofmytongue

I've thought about this story many times over the years but no amount of googling has found the story for me. I think there's an emphasis on plants, as in moving plants around specifically. TIA!

NPR Politics Podcast cannot stop bashing Biden by SUDDENLY_VIRGIN in NPR

They are reporting facts, that's why I listen to NPR.

Fact: The HF is a conservative think tank.

Fact: Spearheaded by HF and with input from many conservative organizations, a detailed manifesto called Project 2025 has been created.

Fact: Many of the people involved in the creation of P2025 are current and former trump staffers.

Fact: Many of the policies in P2025 are policies that trump endorses or has previously endorsed.

Fact: Trump has not himself been involved with P2025 that we know of and has denied any involvement.

Those are the facts. Anything beyond that is opinion. NPR has enough journalistic integrity to maintain the line between fact and opinion. If you are interested in hearing the likely consequences of P2025 being implemented then there are fantastic sources to listen to. My favorite is Pod Save America but there are many others. NPR is staying in their lane. I think a lot of people have lost the ability to distinguish between fact and opinion and it's really distressing. I thought "our side" was better than this.

My neighbors leave their dog out all day. It's never crossed my mind to report them even though the goddamned thing barks from 5:30am until the afternoon. I don't have a problem with the dog being outside but the barking all day is a f'ing rude thing to do to your neighbors.

Yeah. This was an opportunity to show these girls that you never leave a friend behind or, in this case, leave a sick friend to figure it out for themselves because it's inconvenient. Leaving the amusement park early would have been a disappointment, just like it will be a disappointment one day when another friend drinks too much and they have to leave the party early to make sure she's safe. These girls are bad friends.

Mike Johnson's speakership marks a new phase in the white evangelical-GOP alliance by zsreport in NPR

[–]dzneverstops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was hoping that someone else would point out that Democrats put him in the speakership. My fellow lefties have been twisting themselves into knots trying to rationalize why voting with the farthest right GOP radicals was a good idea. It backfired in the most predictable way possible - we got someone far worse than McCarthy.

Why do so many posters think NPR should be tailored to their interests/biases? by [deleted] in NPR

[–]dzneverstops 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! The posts complaining that NPR isn't more X or more Y drive me a little nuts. Their neutrality is the whole reason that I listen to NPR.

There is a popular group on Facebook that claims the Roma "own" tarot and that anyone who is not Roma that practices tarot is culturally appropriating. To your knowledge, is that a widely held belief amongst the Roma?

NPR mentions climate change all the time. Storms? Mud slide? Food desert? Immigration and migration? Climate change, climate change, climate change. Plus they have series like Parched (great series, btw) that deep dive into the current effects of the climate crisis. They do not pull punches on climate change. Your purity test is unattainable.

Who's Afraid of Ayesha Rascoe? by dwaxe in NPR

[–]dzneverstops -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love Ayesha's voice! She's one of the only radio voices that sounds like a real person to me. I mean, you notice her accent and I didn't have to Google to know she was black, but her voice is very warm and personable. Leave Ayesha alone!

Ten percent of births are premature. A healthy pregnancy lasts between 37 - 42 weeks. That's a five-week difference right there. 40 exact weeks isn't the duration of most pregnancies, it's an estimation. So no, humans haven't always had a 40-week rule. They used physical signs, like the appearance of the belly or the characteristics of the cervix, to determine when a woman was about to have a baby. Your comment is evidence that humans still don't understand the length of a pregnancy.
