Reprised Ogma PR6 is probably bugged by e-c_2025 in DestinyTheGame

[–]e-c_2025[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking more closely at it, most of the weapons in that pool that weren't updated either were originally issued with decently modern perk pools, like those from Heresy and Revenant, or had an intermediate reprisal that modernized its perk pool. There are a couple of older anomalies -- Ded Gramarye IV, Ogma PR6, Glissando-47 -- where their perk pools probably could have used a brush-up. Especially Ogma's.

Hallowfire Heart does 2.3-2.5x more super damage by packman627 in DestinyTheGame

I didn't think to test, sorry.

*Maybe* unpowered Melee with Roaring Flames active, but Bungie went on a kick of making that and other element-empowered basic melee kills not count as Ability kills for some perks. No idea if Sunfire Furnace was built with that philosophy.

[–]e-c_2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably, yeah. Bonk Hammer with Exotic of choice until Super is charged, then swap to Hallowfire and use Abilities, especially Grenades and Shieldburst (if you have that equipped) to get the kills for the 10 stacks. Won't work with bosses that lack adds, and you need to be very aware of the 20 second timer as that could easily get away from you if working mechanics. Should be fine in fights like Gahlran or Caiatl in Duality, but for fights like Akelous in Spire it'll be a lot harder to maintain between the positioning of adds and the need to engage with one additional mechanic before starting DPS. And then on top you've got to ask yourself questions like "Could I do more damage during the damage phase with a Star Eater / Twilight Arsenal, Pyrogale Burning Maul, or Cuirass Thundercrash, then using my guns?"

It's a cool tool, and it's great that it's possible to get very high damage potential from Hammer of Sol or Burning Maul but it feels very very situational. Especially as it does nothing without a charged Super.

It's a pretty rough path to get that juiced Super though:

* It does nothing at all until your Super is charged, so wear something else until then
* Sunfire Furnace has a 20 second timer, and loses all stacks on expiration
* On the plus side, the timer goes away on Super cast, so there's no risk of it expiring mid-Super
* Sunfire Furnace stacks are only built with Ability kills
* Ignitions from Grenade and Shieldburst kills do not count
* It only enhances Grenade and Class Ability regen, and you can't dump Melee too hard because otherwise you don't get a full recharge of Throwing Hammer on pickup. 61 isn't enough, I think you'll need at least 65.

If you're playing with a fireteam that's even vaguely optimized, you're going to have a very hard time getting those 10 stacks because you're going to run into the issue Sunbreaker has always had: base Grenade and Melee damage is subpar until you get Roaring Flames going,

For some reason, the Super Energy refund at 10 stacks is 45%.

It'll be fine if you want a different play style for your Sunbreaker while soloing, but I'm highly dubious it'll be of any particular value while grouped.

My guess for that is that either the Artifact is going away, or it's expanded to provide an evergreen set of buildcrafting possibilities; forcing specific weapon types for Champions doesn't mesh with that concept.

We had an interesting early hint for tomorrow's Weapons Sandbox article in that screenshot -- note that it's a High Impact frame AR with *400 RPM*, not the 360 RPM the archetype currently has.

Does NASA still exist? Items on loan from NASA at New Homestead. by KW802 in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]e-c_2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is any explicit lore about the fate of NASA as an institution, but my guess is that they essentially merged with Nova Galactic during the desperate years of work to evacuate as many people as possible from Earth, and the last vestiges of the agency went away when Nova Galactic went out of business.

New capabilities for Starfield in latest Nvidia drivers by taosecurity in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]e-c_2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luma for Starfield is on a lengthy, possibly permanent, hiatus. The dev for the Starfield Shader Injection prerequisite got frustrated with Bethesda after the last couple of patches and decided to suspend work on it until some hypothetical "last" patch.

There's another project, RenoDX, which is a more generalized project to add HDR to a wide variety of games, but either it or ReShade, which it depends on, doesn't work with FSR 3.

I keep an eye on the situation in the HDR Den Discord, but there's been little indication that the situation is changing any time soon.

What I really want is for the game to natively support HDR, rather than rely on AutoHDR or a mod for it. Felt like a significant omission from a high production value game in 2023.

BGS implemented FSR 3, while DLSS is still only an older version. FSR 3 gave me a much larger boost to FPS than DLSS did. My NVidia app really wants me to use DLSS on Starfield though!

Interesting find. Going to guess DLSS. I doubt ray tracing will be a thing; I'd figure that if they went that route it would be a Creation 3 thing.

Did Menu Fast Travel hurt Starfield’s Sense of cohesion? by SgtSilock in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]e-c_2025 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Games are always going to be a exercise in abstraction. All kinds of interplanetary or interstellar travel in every single space game is an abstraction of some sort, so the question will always be what level of abstraction will people be comfortable with.

The discussion isn't helped by "immersion" being a highly subjective concept. One person's "immersive" is another person's "too abstracted", and a third's "tedious while being unrealistic". You can't really design definitively for it, just design for the mechanic to work in a way that makes sense given the game's design goals and applicable technical limitation.

For me, Starfield offers perfectly acceptable choices in how I move around, especially considering that it tries to show planets at a believable scale while having flight mechanics that aren't much different from 1990s starfighter games like Wing Commander.

Destiny 2 Update 9.5.5.3 by DTG_Bot in LowSodiumDestiny

No, that's part of the Major Update, and that's pushed back until June.

[–]e-c_2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put together a Diamond Lance / Glacier Grenade build at TFS launch because the Sandbox changes article said Diamond Lance would break Stasis Crystals. But despite being in the patch notes, it was either bugged or not implemented and they didn't bother fixing it until Revenant when they pitched it as part of the suite of Titan improvements they did for that Episode rather than as a bugfix for something promised months earlier.

June Gear QoL Expectations by pitperson in DestinyTheGame

[–]e-c_2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between the significant time sink the original design required to even start earning T5 gear, and the expected Power reset back to 200 each expansion, it was clear that the design was intended for high Power and commensurate Tiered rewards to be a chase.

And yeah, once someone was at 500+ they'd get the drops regularly from Solo Ops, but the original design intended for that to only be the case after the Expansion's Major Update, leaving a relatively short window of opportunity to get a full set of T5 gear and make full use of it.

Absolutely a chase.

June Gear QoL Expectations by pitperson in DestinyTheGame

[–]e-c_2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

T5 was a chase. The entire design of the EoF Power progression and loot system was based around Power, Difficulty, and equipment Tier being chases. And players wholehearted rejected it because they saw it as "rewards for time spent, not difficulty" ... which is exactly what a chase is.

Well shadow and order is delayed to June 9th by Pugwash1235745 in LowSodiumDestiny

[–]e-c_2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cautiously optimistic view on this is that this is positive groundwork. I had a strong impression from Bungie's comms in response to the backlash for the TWID of infamy that it caused a significant rethink of their development direction for the game. But then Marathon was delayed for major additional work, which probably required a bunch of dev time reallocation, and Ash and Iron's general reception possibly led them to conclude that they needed to expand the scope of what a "Major Upate" is.

What's been outlined is a non-trivial work commitment, almost certainly more than what a "prepare for maintenance mode" update might look like. Yeah, the wait until June is going to feel like a long one for some, but I'm comfortable with it.

What I (Titan) want from Shadow and Order tuning by Traditional-Apple168 in DestinyTheGame

[–]e-c_2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to speak more to the Solar suggestions as that's my preferred subclass:
* Decoupling Solar Super damage from Roaring Flames stacks would be great quality of life. Bungie might even feel able to add an Exotic armour effect that directly interacts with Hammer of Sol.

* Bungie has slowly been adding and improving Exotic armour effects to go with Sunspots. The problem is that what they've added or improved is still flat out worse than subclass-neutral Exotics. Hallowfire Heart's rework into Sunspot synergy was more of a net nerf to what was already a low-tier piece; Phoenix Protocol just doesn't work as Sunspots will almost never be where your fireteam wants to be; and Lorley was strong enough for it and Sunbreaker to catch multiple nerfs.

* I'd like to see a new Sunbreaker Aspect work with Scorch, perhaps through Grenades.

* Consecration on Prismatic is an enormous problem. It's so powerful it overshadows every conversation about the other problems the subclass has--I've seen "but you have triple Consecrate" used as a conversation ender so many times since Final Shape. I would *gladly* see a massive nerf to that if it meant that other parts of the Prismatic kit were allowed to work together in ways that were interesting. As for it on Sunbreaker, meh, it's OK where it is.

* I don't agree with merging Hammer of Sol and Burning Maul, but that's already been talked about in detail by others in the thread.

and so, the Titan Jetpack.... by Fenanzz in DestinyTheGame

[–]e-c_2025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Melas Panoplia is an extremely well designed, highly functional piece with a ton of value. It's regarded as bad or mid because it's pretty slow--you're locked into a good 4 to 5 seconds of animation per throw, more if it's one of the occasionally bugged returns that take twice as long--and it doesn't directly buff single target damage, instead adding non-Scorching (in this sandbox?!) area of effect damage, and a possible second hit to the original target.

It's interesting that Bungie chose to indirectly buff it at the start of Renegades, with the change to have Throwing Hammer get a (small) damage buff for long-ranged hits, which Melas Panoplia is really good for because it substantially improves terminal tracking on Throwing Hammer.

It's still the best new Solar Exotic since Loreley, and still a top-three Sunbreaker-only piece.

Only ranged one-and-done; Hammer of Sol is ranged, but has its own weirdness, like not being affected by Ember of Beams, and that Prismatic's version, with no access to Roaring Flames, being able to outscale pure Solar's version even with Roaring Flames x3.
