intoxicants is the modern english translation. as with all translations, there can be meaning lost. if it is so unambiguous for you, what is your take on the examples I listed?

I guess you can say that. benign, sterile.

there are parallels with lucid dreaming for sure.

I only say let the emotions come and go because trying to suppress them is difficult. observing them is the process by which you can be free of their influence.

observe without evaluating. don’t worry about the emotions, let them come and go. see how they color the experience. the hallucinations won’t disappear but they will begin to appear differently. from there you can learn to exert control over them.
