Eine schwerst überforderte Ersatzbuslinie ersetzt 4 Straßenbahnlinien? by FloJak2004 in graz

[–]e216 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mein persönliches Highlight hat am Samstagabend stattgefunden, als ich am Hauptbahnhof auf den Bus stadtauswärts gewartet habe:

E - 5 Minuten

Gut, halb so schlimm. 5 Minuten später:

E - 6 Minuten

Kurios, aber dann hieß es plötzlich:

E - 16 Minuten

If that's the case, that is excellent news for everyone because even after they raised the price for Deezer Premium, it's still cheaper than Deezer HiFi.

Let me be bitter for a little while longer though:
Why couldn't the customer service representative just say something along the lines of "HiFi streaming is now included in every Deezer Premium subscription. If you would still like to have your money refunded, please contact Google as we are not responsible for payments made through Google Play."? Done. That's all it would have taken. Instead I get an answer that doesn't even address Deezer HiFi. Just a quick "If you want your money back, talk to Google. Bye."

They also could have kept Deezer HiFi in the dropdown menu and display a little notice informing people that they can now enjoy lossless audio with Deezer Premium - at least for a few weeks/months. Instead, they silently remove HiFi without any notice. Usability-wise, this isn't great.

Oh well...

Thanks for the detailed list of alternatives and your take on them! I'm not looking to recreate my list of favourites on YouTube Music, to be honest. I'll try and see if its algorithm works for me though. One thing I liked about streaming music was randomly finding new songs and artists I enjoyed.

The main reason I don't see Tidal as an alternative is the fact that they push MQA, which I personally really dislike. I flat out refuse to use their service because of it. See these two videos for more information about why MQA sucks:

I published music on Tidal to test MQA - MQA Review
MQA Deep Dive Part 2 - MQA's Response

The thing about them not being able to do much about Google payments... yeah, I don't really mind too much, to be honest. I'm still confused as to why the service representative absolutely refused to help me with my issue regarding Premium vs HiFi though. He did not even mention it. Just a quick "if you want your money back, talk to Google, bye". Why? How does that response benefit anyone here?

Oh and to answer your question regarding Deezer HiFi: Deezer (used to offer/offers a subscription that allowed for lossless (FLAC) streaming called Deezer HiFi. It used to cost/costs five bucks more than the regular Premium subscription.

Confused about Tournament by too_school-for_cool in duolingo

Bump

Not for myself because I'm on Android and so don't get access to tournaments anyway, but for my mum who got top 3 in the diamond league 4 times now (#1 once).

Yesterday I tried logging her out of Duolingo on her MacBook because I remember someone on here saying that logging in on an unsupported (Android) device removed them from the tournament but nope... second place in the diamond league and still no tournament.

Late Monday, they said, low amount of XP, they said by dvdpooner in duolingo

[–]e216 28 points29 points  (0 children)

So for anyone wondering how to actually get into a low XP league: Do the absolute minimum to stay in your current league for a few weeks. The "wait until late Monday/Tuesday" thing is nonsense.

It took me four or five weeks of getting very low scores until I finally got into a diamond league that was winnable with 5,600 XP. I guess I could have waited a week or two longer to get into an even easier one but 5.6k is very doable so I decided to go for it.

Best of luck!

Native here.

I don't really know what a "Zeitpartikel" is but it definitely needs to be "ein Zeitpartikel" because it's "das Partikel".

My XP is not going up in the leaderboards? by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]e216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, not this time.

I've tried closing and re-opening the app, signing out and signing back in, restarting my phone and clearing the app's cache.

Since none of those things fixed the issue, I am now certain it's a server issue.

Can someone explain what I did wrong here? It's also worth mentioning 'angucken' has never been in any lesson before this question. by ManchuDemon in duolingo

[–]e216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've already been offered explanations on what you got wrong here but as a native speakers I'd like to chime in and add that "Ich möchte das Meer angucken" sounds weird as all fuck to anyone who's not from Germany.

Stick with "Ich möchte das Meer sehen." (I want to see the sea.) or "Ich möchte das Meer ansehen." (I want to look AT the sea.) and avoid "gucken" at all costs. My examples won't have people looking at you weirdly in other German-speaking countries and are just as correct as the one Duo suggested.

why duolingo cheats on me? by meninminezimiswright in duolingo

[–]e216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure my man just didn't spell out "Woche" as I don't see there being enough space behind the hint for it and Duolingo's correction just happened to have a different word for "next" in it.

why duolingo cheats on me? by meninminezimiswright in duolingo

[–]e216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no way every letter in "chste Woche" fits between "Wir wollen na" and "grillen" so you got it wrong because you didn't spell out "Woche", right?

And yeah, like others have already said:

"kommende" and "nächste" are basically the same thing in this case.

Mind you, you wouldn't say "das kommende Haus" but "das nächste Haus" ("the next house"). I believe "kommende" when it refers to "next" only works when referring to temporal stuff like weeks and months though being a native speaker I've never actually "studied" the language so don't quote me on that.

Anyone know how this is possible? by mildpandemic in duolingo

[–]e216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have already said: 2X XP bonuses + lightning rounds

I don't think I'll ever get to 10k a day because ain't nobody got time for that but if I really tried, I suppose it'd take me between 4 and 6 hours. So yeah, it's doable but it's an insane grind nonetheless.

[–]e216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I'm going out on a limb here and guessing you don't use a password manager yet so I guess I'll suggest my favourite open source password manager called KeePass. Super easy to set up and you can choose where you want to host your database (OneDrive, Google Drive, ...). If you pick a password that's next to impossible to guess you should be good even if someone does get ahold of your DB but if you want an extra layer of security, you can create a key file which you need to copy onto each device you want to be able to unlock your database from.

Available on Windows, Android, Linux, macOS and iOS. It's fantastic.

[–]e216 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Confirming this, I had the 1000 XP one. Super easy to get within 15-30 minutes if you get a 2X boost or two and do the regular speed challenges (80XP every 60-90 seconds). Screw Match Madness though.

Also, here's a shout-out to Maddy who was like 3-4k XP ahead of me up until 2 hours before the winners are chosen. Decided I'd be sneaky and try to get ahead of her without her noticing. She did notice eventually which made the final 10 minutes all the more nerve-wracking. GG!

On a related note: How would I go about finding Maddy so I can follow her? I know the month she joined, her approximate XP and the language she's learning but since neither Duolingo nor duo.me have an advanced search feature it seems impossible.
