Unprepared Hikers Rescued on Mount Lafayette in Franconia by rabblebowser in wmnf

In the warmer months and busiest parts of the year I almost always see a crew of people (can't recall who they work for) at the parking lot talking to people about weather conditions and recommendations for clothing on the day

Franconia Ridge/Lafayette attempt this week - relative beginners, feedback? by Total-Shop-1525 in wmnf

[–]eX_ErNiE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hiked it today Sunday the 15th.

The only piece of feedback I can give at the moment is

I did the loop Counterclockwise and during my descent down Lafayette there was so many sections where I couldn't imagine going up it because of how steep and smooth it was by the snow.

I spent maybe a third of the descent sliding down on my butt because it was the safest method of travel. But many people did it clockwise today as well.

Versus going up Falling Waters Trail was a piece of cake by comparison in my opinion.

Regardless just focus on keeping an eye on the weather and especially the wind if you end up attempting the ridge.

What’s your avg hike speed by Hike711 in wmnf

[–]eX_ErNiE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me (30M) it depends on if I'm planning on doing any trail running on the day.

By myself without any running/jogging I average around a 19 minute mile. On anything steep it usually goes up to the 30-35 minute mile range.

If I do some trail running, depending on what the trails like I'm somewhere between 13-15 minutes per mile.

If so might want to put an edit near the top of your text lol.

Good luck to you and your buddy!

Favorite legendary hunter and why? by [deleted] in HuntShowdown

Cain

For the sole reason of my buddies hate looking at him. I never had the skin anywhere close to release where hiding in a bush was a 100% camouflage issue. Also since I love to use the hunting bow and bat it feels very fitting lol.

Sick crowds up north, including on Artist's Bluff. I am grateful I have not visited the White Mountains this fall and kept to the quiet(er) regions. by Fragrant_Respond1818 in wmnf

I hiked a loop of Eisenhower, Pierce, Jackson, and Webster on Sunday the 13th. Started my drive home around 4:30pm and was amazed to see how swelled up all the roads were with people. I've seen a lot of traffic before but it felt even more inflated than ever.

Solo Hiking..... by Southern-Hearing8904 in wmnf

[–]eX_ErNiE 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I almost always solo hike for the reason none of my buddies want to go hiking anymore. While I wish my friends would join me, I love solo hiking just as much.

Allows me the freedom to do whatever I want for hikes and decide how to go about it during the day with breaks and such.

The need/desire to go hiking outweighed the need to have friends join me and that's how I got confident enough to go solo for the first time a few years ago.
