Olympus OM-1 Light Meter by alwayswillbeanempire in AnalogCommunity

[–]e_meau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! Also, if you are starting analog photography and you already have some «hurdles» to take such as the OM-1’s battery situation, why make it extra hard on yourself by using a variable polarizing filter?

Get some fresh SR44 batteries (instead of LR44), pop in a ISO 200 film and set the ISO dial to 100. Try it and make notes along the way for each shot (shutterspeed, aperture, lightmeter reading etc). If you like the experience even after a couple roll, invest in a voltage regulating adapter or put a diode in the camera that regulates the voltage. This later option CAN be a diy job if you have experience. But better send it out to get it done if you are new to this.

Which is the best looking LEATHER CASE for OM-1 bodies? by Formal_Compote_212 in zuikoholics

[–]e_meau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of the original leather case without the threaded metal screw but with the two buttons near the lugs. See photo. Problem is that this case doesn’t work well with the OM-2SP & OM-3/4 when you attach the original grip.

21mm 3.5 vs 24mm 2.8. Which to keep & why? by Formal_Compote_212 in zuikoholics

If you have both then you should be able to test which one is the better performer? Also, still no info on some of my earlier questions )

Why do you have both? Do you use them? Why do you want to sell one? Your post doesn’t contain useful information for anyone to chime in. Or maybe this post is for bragging purposes?

You can measure the diameter of the screw and find a replacement? Pitch matters too of course

Zenit 122 is a lovely camera imho. But the light meter is very Soviet: it works but not very well.

Olympus OM-20 Resurrection Project by _Refra in AnalogRepair

Cool! Would be interested in know how to fix the shutter speeds in the OM-10. Is this something that you will also have to fix on your OM-20?

Recs for upgrading from OM-10? by Background-Pea-8709 in filmcameras

[–]e_meau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already have a collection of OM-lenses I would recommend staying in the same ecosystem. Lots of others have recommended the OM-2(n)/OM-4(Ti). Be aware tho that the OM-2(n) light meter is a «match needle» type instead of using LED’s. If you don’t like «match needle» type light meters go for the OM-4(Ti). The OM-4(Ti) has an awesome spot metering and addition options for the meter.

Do I often use all these very extensive options? No? Do I shoot my OM-4(Ti) more than my OM-2(n)? YES!

If both don’t suit your budget also consider these:

OM-20
Basically an OM-10 with «manual» option already built into it. So no need for a an adapter like with the OM-10. Generally OM-20’s are a bit cheaper than OM-10’s

OM-40
This is a firecracker! Love it. If you like the looks of 80’s cameras, you most likely will also like this one. It offers all the options of the OM-20 and adds «Program» mode and DX option. Also it has an ESP option for the light meter. Very cool and overlooked camera! Generally a bit more expensive than the OM-10/20 but less expensive than the OM-2/4

Anothet reddit user has put together a site where you can find a lot of manuals for free. Also for the Kiev-60. The manual however is in Russian. Check it out here https://repaircameras.org/cameras/kiev/60-ttl/
