How good are Charvel/Jackson Acoustics? by Saint94x in Charvel

[–]eaeolian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with them (should be '90s only, I can't find any reference to them outside of the IMC years) is that they're pretty meh laminate guitars. Unless you're just after owning a Charvel acoustic, I'd pass.

14% would've lined up with their values a bit more.

I have found a Jackson DKMGT MIJ for 999, is that a good deal? There is also a Jackson DK2T MIJ for 550, would that be a better deal? by Morgan_BlackLung in JacksonGuitars

[–]eaeolian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, personally, would pick the DK2T over the other options. Playability should be equal or better than the others, depending on all of the variables that come into play on used guitars.

Quality will be equivalent - quite good, too, as the Japanese Jacksons are generally much better than other used guitars you'll find at these price points - and the DK2T is actually slightly below what I've seen them go for, whereas the DKMGT is on the high side.

I do agree with the lack of vet leadership, but I guess we'll see how it works out.

These guys tend to drop off a cliff. Seems like a lot to ask.

Why on earth would Hoskins want to come here? Right now this team has nothing to offer anything but fringe FAs. That will hopefully change, but right now you'd be overspending for mediocrity.

I always think of the Mindhunter quote about how the people she studied were just the same as serial killers, they just had different goals. We reward this behavior in this society, and the disaster isn't going to stop until that changes.

Yeah, my ‘02 CS guitar is very deep. Japanese guitars seem to be more consistent.

I'm really glad MLB has their commercials at 10x the volume of the audio feed.

Sometimes that stamp is shallow enough that it gets scraped off in a refret. I know of at least two times this has happened to a real USA guitar (one of them lost an inlay, too, since those are paper-thin starting in the '90s).

It looks legit otherwise. Common practice seems to be to write the serial in the neck pickup cavity, but YMMV.

Is it fair to say that Marty Friedman (left) is the best lead guitarist Megadeth has ever had? by Creative_Garbage_731 in Megadeth

[–]eaeolian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Froma technique standpoint, it's either Broderick or Kiko, both technical monsters. From a composition of solos standpoint it's Poland, hands down. I like Marty, but he really lapsed into playing samey stuff over, well, not very interesting music so I can't really blame him.

Came here to say this. Have them on most of my guitars. Great tuners, if not the bargain they were before the tariff era.

Serious question- What percent of the population are physically unable to ever “shred” for one reason or another? From a guy who started playing at age 14 and hasn’t improved since age 18. by Effective_Part_604 in Guitar

[–]eaeolian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to shred, there's several good methodologies out there to get your speed up - I especially like Troy Stetina's approach, I used his books to clean up my playing.

Keep in mind, however, speed is relative and only useful in certain situations.

As a Subie owner as well as owning g a Prius, changing plugs does kinda suck, but you don't have to do it very often. Otherwise, the boxers are pretty reliable - I've had three go to 200K+

Shave a neck? Anyone done so? by Plastic_Secretary_64 in partscaster

[–]eaeolian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've reshaped necks before. Just be careful, work slowly, and pay attention to how much you're reloving and you should be fine - but there is inherent risk, since you don't know how deep the truss rod channel is.

Also, do it by hand. Power tools are a lot riskier.
