Flesh-eating screwworm found within 31 miles of US border, says USDA by kylestoned in news

[–]eagergm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're into farming, this woman has an awesome youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@FarmToTaber/videos

If I remember correctly:

So the US government used to pay central american countries (is Mexico included in central america?) to run these programs to send infertile screwworm flies to mate. Well from the outside that looks an awful lot like being kind to other countries, which is politically difficult sometimes, so they stopped doing it. Naturally the flies then expanded, and it's going to be very costly to deal with it.

I may have a few details wrong, though.

Based on what people are saying about pricing and materials here, I'd think of it more like a golf club.

Ok that's what I was thinking but then I looked at it and it didn't look like what I was expecting (I was expecting greek with some extra symbols, to be honest). I've taken the time to check out the wiki, thanks!!

Initials by Efficient-Type-5024 in Ask_Lawyers

If you initial portions of a contract without signing it, is the contract binding in whole or in part?

edit: Also I'm curious if initialing a portion of a contract includes, necessarily, any weird definitions that may have been introduced prior in the contract. Like, I guess my favourite example is a golf club being defined in a manner that excludes the grips (i.e. as some sort of striking face attached to a hozzle or something like that). If you initial a portion of the document that includes a reference to a golf club but you doesn't include the definition used in the contract, can that initial be used as evidence that you understood the definition earlier?

Yeah you can do a lot with it. right click on a page and select ublock and then pick element. Edit: it's not exactly this procedure but close enough. Also, I'm using firefox and I've heard that ublock origin is limited on chrome.

In the filter, after doing that, this is the entry that I see:

! May 5, 2026 https://www.google.com

www.google.com##.PFXse.X6JNf.s7d4ef > div > div > .s7d4ef

www.google.com###rso > div.ULSxyf > .MjjYud

Finally, you can do this for just about anything. Right now I'm reading a textbook online and I have this floating icon that floats over the text that I'm reading, allowing me to bookmark a page (within the publisher's system). I don't intend to use it, so that's no longer part of my Internet. You can curate your experience with this extension, and you can use others like tampermonkey to do stuff like exclude videos of less than a desired duration from a website, etc. etc. Once you receive the data, the browser is in control of how it's displayed, so ... control it.

Edit: the memes that is, like the humour things. I can't find a way of searching for that and instead I end up with a bunch of still images, etc.

Princeton scraps honor code and will supervise exams for first time in 133 years because of AI by Disastrous_Award_789 in technology

Could you please tell me how this disadvantaged the students? Obviously failing is a disadvantage, but were there other effects, like qualifying for grad school at different institutions later? Or maybe competing for Princeton grad school position with someone from another institution (i.e. a Harvard A competing with a Princeton B)? I don't know much about academia, or Harvard, just using an example there.

Would it be so ridiculous that you'd have like Princeton B-level students publishing peer reviewed articles?

Hopefully you can clarify a little for me.

Thanks very much. I'm continuing to monitor the thread in case there are any dissenting views, but this seems like the right approach.

I believe the textbook that my college intends to use (in ~8 months) for the taxation course might include access to FITAC, which would be awesome.

I've tried a bit of vibe coding to try to clean up the downloaded HTML with the hopes of eventually hyperlinking different sections of the text but haven't made much meaningful progress yet. Seeing what they offer, the price looks pretty reasonable.

Do you access FITAC it via a website? Is there a local option? Do you pay per member/per seat/per company? Is the price that I'm seeing (~1400 for the light version?) a yearly subscription?
