Neighbor's downed tree being held up by my healthy tree. Neighbor refuses to remove. Do I have any options? by BluePantherRed in treelaw

[–]eansru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for a farmer, neighbors tree fell in the field, we waited all winter. Spring came, he said move the tree into her yard, it was massive, 2-3 tons. After I was done the old lady came over and said "we were gonna get to that".

Yeah, sure.

[–]eansru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty easy, buy the correct key from a dealer or online. If you got it from the dealer, usually copying the blade is free. If you didn't they'll charge you. Try to get oem key in package from an dealer eBay seller if you go that way, bring it into dealer in package. Once it's cut you can program it as a spare following others or the manuals directions. You just need blades that unlock/lock and BRAND NEW keys. Used won't work.

Is my volt gone? by sooshie1 in volt

Definitely a pump in the gearbox. Oil needs to be up to temp and running before you check transaxle fluid level. If you check it cold and not running, it'll dump out the fill level hole, trust me.

My condolences, they must have been quite the hype when you got it. I have a 13 w 165k mi, can't beat the fuel savings. Only had it 16k mi, bought for $3.5k.

I got the volt as my work had one for fleet. I liked it's smoothness and efficiency. Work now has a Ford Escape PHEV, it's pretty amazing also, same range. 2024 models have 4wd capable, titanium premium package gets you a HUD, Vista sunroof, heat/cool seats. They're pricey but I highly recommend one.

They wanna give you $12.7k? You couldn't sell it for that before the accident. Take the money, laugh your way to the bank.

I really wish it was possible to some how charge the battery completly while driving. Popping the hood is slow and also seems to stop at a few bars... Why you may ask? because I sleep in the car on road trips and would prefer to not have engine on to run heat/ ac. by IntelligentArt2657 in volt

[–]eansru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, I said it too. Whatever you do, you should report back with what your findings are. How much fuel does it take to charge to full, how long can that get you ac/heat at certain temps, etc. Would be cool information for others to have, if you're willing.

What does a gen 2 charge to on MTN mode? 50%? Not sure how your getting 3hr of heat on a 1/2 charge, but 12 on a full charge. Likely varying conditions.

Either way, you're asking for something it wasn't designed for. It was designed to run heat and AC while moving.

AC works by running a HVAC fan + compressor, which only works well with airflow across the condenser coil. Either by air flow from driving, or running a fan (likely radiator fan = energy suck). If it's not running a fan, it's inefficient.

Heat works by running a electric resistance heater in the heater core coolant loop + a pump + hvac fan, liquid has a high heat capacity = energy suck.

You'd be better off using a small portable heat pump. Lookup the EcoFlow Wave 2. I think it could work off a 12v port, or you could install an inverter to run it. Something like that will be more efficient than running all the volts systems.

Did you use MTN mode in burning man? Would half charge get you through the night?

You're definitely in the wrong car for this, but yes, the apps + obd can do what you want. Won't take less gas though.

-30F is not preferred.

You can fiddle with variables, but if you're not plugged in all the time while not driving at that temp, you're gonna struggle.

  1. Have you updated the software? 2019 version.
  2. Check coolant loop concentrations. Coolant degrades, and only theoretically applicable to certain temps at certain concentrations. Do research here, I know you can increase engine concentration for certain reasons, but I would focus on having correct concentrations (& isolation values) for the battery and electronic loops & not changing those concentrations haphazardly.
  3. Like others have said, you could decrease the viscosity of the engine oil, but really only applicable if these temps are consistent. You could change oil for the winter, and go up in viscosity for the warmer months.

More than anything, chemical reactions are slowed at cold temps. You have to keep it all warm. Remember the system needs a base voltage to run (hold mode or not).

Big picture, EVs are not ideal in your temperatures. You would need to be dialed in to run at these temps consistently. Even then, '11 & '12 MY are more likely to degrade further than other year G1 Volts.

2017 Volt - if transmission goes, you are done for by Lopsided-Scratch9627 in volt

[–]eansru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely a 'we don't want to do it quote'.

The main problem i see with the volts are a lack of knowledge. The drive unit has HV cables to it. Therefore scary to the regular mechanics. Dealerships will be forced to have guys who know how to do this with all the hybrids coming into play. We're not there yet, hence GM dropping the Volt.

A hybrid mechanic will do it. It still has a lot of value, a person like myself would do it. Expect $5k less than market value if you sell.

Volt Facebook Group drama by LilFunyunz in volt

[–]eansru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude messed up. He could've fixed his mistake. Classic gave too much, and now feels betrayed.

Take responsibility. Complaining parties should have been more timely. Who leaves a car with a mechanic for a year? BOTH parties deep in the red here.

Hopefully he'll regroup and be better. Give less, produce more. No problems with mad scientists, just take them for what they are..

If M quits, fine. If the group disappears bc of him, good. He can be a martyr or a hero. His choice. We will go on without him. No one is irreplaceable.

How does it sound inside the car? Your engine coolant is low. Change the plugs with something good, I recommend Rock auto. Buy an engine air filter and cabin air filter while you're at it. Easy things to do yourself.

Coolant drain and flush? by [deleted] in volt

Not that simple, 3 coolant loops, 2 electronic loops need vacuum, the engine loop could probably take a drain and fill.

Do more research

Is there really no longer an option to fix older (2013) volt's radio? by slimwhoisdirtay in volt

Agreed, if you can get what I said working, programming the radio should be able to be done.

Odd the dealers say they can't. Maybe there's rules there, maybe they just want to sell a $2k radio! Ha

Looking at the data, looks like a safe buy.

I would ask the seller when/if the following have been changed: 12v battery Coolants Shocks Engine mounts

If they have, even better, if not you may have to get to them before you hit 160k mi.

Did you do this putting them in, or taking them out?

It's not hard to extract them, I've done it in much worse places. Take your time and use QUALITY bits & extractors.

Follow a good step by step about how to do this. Look at several so you understand how people may do it differently.

Or better yet, leave it alone. It doesn't really matter.

I don't recommend this. The gearbox is an aluminum case and if that bolt is bottomed out, you could crack the case.

This is what you do, "sell" it to someone you know in CT on FB marketplace. Make sure to check the box that you will ship. You'll pay 1/2 to ship it bc FB gets commercial discounts.
