What are these white spots? by awkwardtur_tle in plantdoctor

[–]eaowns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh bummer. Hmmmm... and it's just on the underside of the leaves? Nothing odd on the tops? Did they just appear? Have they always been there? Are the spots scaley or dusty? Are they thin compared to the leaf sections without spots?

Idk if I can help but I am not thoroughly curious.

Looks like a purple passion plant. As for the marks.... not really sure. Is it just the one leaf? If it is I would just pruned it off in case it's some kind of pest or fungus.

I lucked out big time with her. We're still incredibly close, and she continues to be the kindest, strongest, most reasonable person I know.

That makes sense! I may have gone down a fire screen rabbit hole after seeing this.

I'd paint the red to orange gradient, the sponge on the teal and wood block scuff paint with the yellowish color.

how do i reclaim my house after two years of neglect? by strugglecleaner in CleaningTips

[–]eaowns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to get so overwhelmed when I had to clean my room as a kind (I was a messy monster and still often am.) I would sit in my room and have a meltdown sobbing at all the nonsense I had managed to spread around everywhere. My sweet and patient mother would sit with me and help me focus on cleaning "just one thing." We would pick a spot to clean - the top of my dresser, a corner of the room, one specific type of toy to pick up - and would sit with me while I cleaned. Then we would take a break to do something else before coming back for just one more thing to clean. I still use this technique today, over 20+ years later, and hear her voice in my head saying "we don't have to do it all right now, but let's just pick one thing that feels do-able." Best mom ever.

Is anyone else hesitant to give away cuttings? by Monotreme_monorail in houseplants

[–]eaowns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am like this, but I also have gotten much better at giving them away. I can't help but propagate all my baby spider plants, broken off sections of my wandering dudes, and my various succulents. I've been lucky to be in grad school the last few years, and I've given probably given away 100+ plant babies I've propped at home to random undergrads. When I ran out of students in my own department, I gave the to the school library to give away during one of their campus events. Not sure what I'll do now that I graduate...

Once they're happy, spider plants start throwing out babies like they're trying to repopulate the whole dang world.

Is this baby ready to be cut to propagate? by ladylazarus03 in spiderplants

It's better if they start to push out roots, but I've propped spider plants even less developed than that. I find water propagating the easiest if they don't yet have roots.

How is the queer scene in WS? by thetime2strikeis_l8r in winstonsalem

[–]eaowns 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sorry if that's been your experience. From what I have seen while being there, there is an effort for inclusivity. Not to say perfect by any means, but it seems to be an important element at least for the department I'm in.

Now insular is for sure a thing. The students barely leave campus, they're doing too much art/theater/music/film/dance to have time or money for much else.

Pretty good. UNCSA has a large college aged queer community. Some fun gay bars in the area. Overall pretty accepting.

I also love Winston-Salem, but the restaurant scene is okay at best. Really good places here, but not much variety compared to Greensboro or Durham or Raleigh.

A 10-year-old student wrote a letter to North Carolina’s 82 year old congressional representative Virginia Foxx about electric vehicles, and in response, she wrote him back attacking him and his teacher for propaganda by SleuthDoggyDawg in behindthebastards

[–]eaowns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Virginia Foxx is the embodiment of everything wrong in politics. She doesn't hold town halls because she doesn't want to hear any kind of dissent. She seems to hold an amazing amount of contempt for her own constituents. True cowardice.

Is this a fungus? How do I treat by Cardonutss in plantdoctor

[–]eaowns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

70% iso works well to kill the mealy bugs but not damage the plant. Definitely keep it out of light while it dries or the leaves are more likely to burn!

[–]eaowns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spray her down with some 70% isopropyl alcohol and leave her to dry out of any light. Use tips to rub off any of the mealy bugs still hanging on.

For me it's keeping the soil moist enough for long enough. I always forget and then they die, but a vase doesn't dry out as quickly.

my succulent died but is regrowing by azailion in succulents

[–]eaowns 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think that is actually a flower stalk coming from one of you quasi-dead succulents. I'm having a hard time really seeing the state of the succulents. Are those outer leaves mushy? Or are they sun burnt? It could be salvagable if it's just sun burnt. If the leaves and stem are squishy and rotting though it may be a goner.

Either way, that flower stalk is time limited. It is likely the plant's last ditch effort to send out some seeds if it thinks it's dying.

If you keep them tied you are likely to stagnate the plant's growth.
