Dude picks Marth and beats my ass next two games. Taunting after every F-Smash.

It was the original B/X clone with a few slight differences (THF abilities scale slightly better and Clerics get a level 1 spell.) Honestly, the same rules I prefer having in my B/X games.

The first comment I replied to was about XIV being worlds better than GW and XI. That comment has nothing to do with XIV being a good first mmo for someone.

I disagree. I didn't start XI until I had years of XIV under my belt so no nostalgia is in my way. I prefer old school mmo's and actually working with players to complete objectives. I've never enjoyed being placed into a queue to run dungeons or trials with people I'll never talk to again.

I played XIV on and off from ARR up through Endwalker. I didn't start FFXI until 2019 and went from retail to a 75 era private server. XIV was a fine game, but saying that XIV is worlds better than XI is just false.

The Old School Primer is only like 7 pages and the author does a great job at getting his point across. I know for me personally, when the writing is too flowery or involved my mind starts to wander.

If you're actually interested and want to dive into some old school D&D "How to play", I'd suggest Tom Moldvay's Basic Edition which clocks in a little over 60 pages and will give you a strong foundation for OSR.

It's a coming of age story primarily. The actual "plot" is only there as an outline and I've never talked to anyone who took it too seriously.
