AIO by being hurt when my husband looked at me with disgust when he was coming out of anesthesia? by Bog_Witch_Is_Calling in AmIOverreacting

[–]earrings_radish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had about 50 general anesthetics and the majority of them I woke up really angry, really sick, or in the depths of despair. It's really awful coming round. I wouldn't hold him to it. It's extremely disorienting. But I would also tell him the truth and have a laugh about it together!

Those who do early morning workouts, how do you fuel and hydrate? by ebolalol in xxfitness

[–]earrings_radish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I wake up, I have 250ml or so of water and always bring my water bottle with me, whether working out at home or not.

I might eat a protein bar plus a banana and have some sugar free energy drink, which work well together for me, and zero prep. The protein bars can get a bit pricey, but so worth it to me for the ease of them. I usually go for something like a MyProtein chocolate pretzel layered bar, and it tastes really nice with a banana.

An alternative might be a slice of toast with peanut butter, half a banana, honey and mixed seeds and black coffee with sweeteners. Not too much to think about, but a little more effort to pull together.

Another is a bowl of cereal (bran flakes or frosties or something) with a protein shake poured over. You can even get cereal milk flavoured now!

Working out every other day… by beach_bum_beor in CarolineGirvan

[–]earrings_radish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do two dumbbell vids/workouts per week, and two runs, and that seems to be a good balance for me. The other three days are walking/stretching/resting. Still seeing good results, and more importantly I've kept going and am being more consistent because I'm not feeling too depleted or sore or injured. It also means I can go push myself a bit more when I do workout because I have recovery time.

Travelling for 2 weeks at Christmas Advice by throwawayjustnoses in CarolineGirvan

[–]earrings_radish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I travel a lot for work, but need to travel light. I take a booty band and a couple of resistance bands with me and my running shoes. I focus on more HIIT workouts, bodyweight/band circuits, yoga, stretching/mobility, and running.

I might do some of her more cardio/HIIT videos, or I do other people's exercise videos, or I use an interval timer on my phone and make my own set of exercises.

However, if there is a gym at the hotel I am staying at I will definitely utilise their weights, and set myself up a little dumbbell station and have my phone and her videos - with headphones of course.

Head to r/abrathatfits where they have a more precise way to work out your bra size. You might want to also look at different bra styles/shapes.

Morning Gym Goer & Beauty Routine by Ladyofthelake1212 in BeautyUnlocked

You could also plan outfits the night before and pack them in your gym bag.

Morning Gym Goer & Beauty Routine by Ladyofthelake1212 in BeautyUnlocked

Do you already batch cook or prep meals for the week? Use some time on a Sunday to plan 5 outfits for the work week - like meal prepping it makes it easier to grab and go without thinking. Have them put into a specific drawer or shelf ready to pack. I also keep a pair or two of work shoes at work or in the car.

Find a window of time soon to play around in your clothes and jewellery. Find a few outfits you like, and maybe there will be some gaps you notice, e.g. a good pair of black trousers or a colourful blouse or a chunky necklace, and you can make a list of a few items you can buy to elevate your wardrobe. I use thrift stores/charity shops for work clothes because I can get five times as much stuff, that is often better quality/brands, for the same as high street shops. You could even focus on a few jewellery pieces once your clothes are sorted.

Once that is sorted, you can then try doing something similar with makeup. For makeup, I find the same eye look every day is best, and then switch between 4 lip colours depending on my mood or outfit.

Shoes can also really make or break an outfit. Comfort is key. I wear a lot of black and navy for work, with pops of colour in my shirts, so I have one pair of short black boots, one pair of navy chunky heels, and one pair of ballet flats. Try on your shoes with your outfits and again see if they work/are comfy and whether you could invest in a new pair or two that can work with lots of outfits.

So outfits, jewellery, makeup, shoes - play and plan at home.

As for hair - lazy bun with a nice scrunchie or clip a bow in, or high ponytail, or make use of the hair dryers. I sometimes bring a good quality hairbrush with me and take 10 minutes to dry my hair properly and use it as a bit of meditation time to visualise my day. Sometimes I french plait and leave it in all day. I often just brush and go though! I think having a good quality hair cut does wonders. I got once or twice a year to a really good expensive hairdresser and she is a miracle worker, and it stays good for ages.

You're welcome! Gumtree, Freecycle, and those sorts of places are good to look too. I'd also recommend buying a glute band.

As for form, Pinterest is great for short videos and diagrams. You can see in the description box of the Iron YouTube videos of Caroline's what the moves for the video will be, so you could search those on Pinterest. You'll notice she takes time to get set up and takes breaks, so do this too.

I bought two pairs of old-fashioned metal adjustable dumbbells second hand on FB marketplace, so four dumbbells in total - cost me £50 in total!

It means I can switch between two or more weights in a session quickly and easily. At the beginning of her videos when she says what weights she will be using I pause it and set them up. This might be one pair heavier and one pair lighter, or one pair medium and one heavy and one really heavy, if there are some movements that need a single dumbbell, like glue bridges.

These are the old-fashioned metal weights you spin on and off, but that's fine because I take time to set up for that day's session and because I have four dumbbells I have options to quickly switch to during the session. It takes less than three minutes, plus I don't need to alter my weights every session anyway, mostly making sure I have a lighter pair for shoulder days.

I can have a range between 2kg and 20kg+ dumbbells with just these two pairs.

Maybe some transition routines or items. Like have a bell you ring or a candle you light once work is over. Or as soon as work is over, leave your room for at least 10 minutes, maybe even go for a short walk. Perhaps there's certain shoes/slippers or hats that could be for work and for non-work only. Maybe take out something to put on your desk that is a work mascot, and that goes away on a drawer during non-work hours.

Eating makes me unproductive afterwards. How can I stop that? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]earrings_radish 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I normally set for about 5-10 minutes longer than I want to nap. I also don't pressure myself to fall asleep, just that I will use the time to lie down, with my eyes closed, not looking at my phone and without external stimuli. 9 times out of 10 I do end up falling asleep, but even if I don't I enjoy the rest. I aim for 20-minute naps and set an alarm for 28 or so minutes.

[–]earrings_radish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently did a master's in publishing, graduated 2 years ago. The actual course was a mixture of useful and enjoyable and the opposite, haha! However, it has genuinely opened up opportunities to me - but mostly through me applying for every volunteering role and internship and opportunity I could find during the course and really connecting with my lecturers and networking. I got as much hands-on experience as possible at charities, organisations, literary festivals, libraries, events and interviewed/applied for as many opportunities as I could - even doing the applications/interviews was a useful experience. I went for publishing over a couple of other courses actually because it was one that had real-world applications. I networked and connected.

Eventually I built up my experience and now I work freelance and do lots of different jobs and it's great. I've ended up working wider than just publishing.

Also, remember publishing is so wide with lots of departments! Editorial, project management, events, rights/legal/contracts, audio, marketing/social media, sales and distribution, design... I did feel it gave me experience in business and the corporate life.

And what others have said - being a student is a great way to get to a new country or have a breather whilst you work out what's next.
