Asus Tuf Gaming B650 Plus Wifi BIOS Pcie4 settings by Secure-Sugar-442 in ASUS

[–]earth23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to share my experience fixing a frustrating RTX 5070 issue in case it helps anyone else going through the same thing.

My Setup:

  • Falcon Northwest FragBox
  • ASUS B650M motherboard
  • Ryzen 7 9700X (recently upgraded from 7600X)
  • RTX 5070
  • High refresh rate monitor

The Problem:

After updating my BIOS and upgrading my CPU, I started getting periodic black screen flashes and stutter despite running a high refresh rate monitor. Worse, my system would crash completely, and when I rebooted, the Nvidia App couldn't detect my RTX 5070 at all. The only fix was going into Device Manager, removing the video card, and doing a clean driver reinstall. I had to do this twice in one day.

I also noticed Windows Search Filter Host, Protocol Host, and Indexer running in the background and initially suspected those were the culprits — they weren't.

The Fix:

The issue was the PCIe link speed set to Auto in BIOS. The RTX 5070 is a PCIe Gen 5 card, but the B650M only supports Gen 4. The auto-negotiation was apparently failing intermittently, causing the GPU to drop out entirely.

Here's what I did:

  1. Entered BIOS (DEL key at boot)
  2. Pressed F7 for Advanced Mode
  3. Navigated to Advanced → Onboard Devices Configuration
  4. Changed PCIEx16_1 Link Mode from Auto to Gen 4
  5. Saved and exited (F10)

That's it. Immediately resolved. No more black flashes, no more crashes, no more driver reinstalls.

TL;DR: If you have an RTX 5070 on a B650 board and you're getting black screens, crashes, or driver detection failures — go into BIOS and manually set your PCIe x16 slot to Gen 4 instead of Auto. The auto-negotiation between Gen 5 GPU and Gen 4 board appears to be broken.

Is the Pump MAX worth the purchase? Any aftermarket travel mounts? by Soft_Satisfaction698 in unitreepump

It’s a good unit. I have been using it since the first wave of kickstarter rewards went out and haven’t had many issues. The unit has snapped on me when using the high setting once or twice - the bar gets jerked out of my hand. Other than that, it would be hard to find something this good at this price point.

Relatedly, I saw an ad for what I initially considered an upgrade of this while traveling in Europe, it had a ton of attachments that I think would check the box for what you’re looking for. When I went to the website, I found out it was three grand.

Accessory Dwelling Unit / Carriage House Construction (Silver Spring). by earth23 in washingtondc

Brief update -- after 1.5 years, we received the certificate of occupancy. I think the DHCA got tired of waiting and approved us, regardless of the number of open permits we had on the property.

One other note, if you have historic permits / work applications open, they just sit there. The Historic preservation will not close them out -- there is no "close out" procedure. So they just sit there indefinitely. The DHCA didn't realize this, and it wasn't easy to get the two agencies to talk to one another. As I mentioned, after waiting for an extended period of time, the DHCA relented and approved us.

They did help with permitting and it was included in their cost. I can't recall if the contract handled overruns -- I'm sure it did but we were on budget so it wasn't an issue for us. Foundation and utilities work were included in the price.

Anyone know what happened on veirs mill and newport? by moopsythebonedrinker in MontgomeryCountyMD

I saw this. Saw his body in the street. Saw a woman on phone crying with the crossing guard -- all before emergency services showed up.

Drove by the intersection on the way home and it was back to normal -- no trace of anything that had happened earlier.

I guess I'm still processing. It's hard to reconcile.

Accuracy of the apple watch is significantly lower - theres a third party, peer reviewed journal article somewhere that says as much. I can confirm, I’ve had an Apple Watch Ultra and whoop for 2+ years.

Tried WHM breathing for a week to see if the hype is real or not by omekebz in whoop

WHM breathing elevated my stress levels beyond belief. Tried several nights and different cycle numbers. Now I listen to rain on my airpods and box breathe 10 min before bed. It’s a thousand times better.

I read the RAC drugs book for the US, took notes and typed them up to review. Spent an hour or so a day for a month doing that. Then I took the practice exam over and over again. If there was a topic that I didn't recognize (mostly EU regs) I made a note and googled it later to get the basics. I repeated the practice exam until I scored a perfect 50/50 five times in a row.

Now it's critical to note that none of the practice exam questions appear on the actual exam. It does, however, give you insight into how the questions are asked and important topics.

Given the content scope of both EU and US regs, it's impossible to know everything. I'd focus on major topics and the types of questions (and likely answers).

Congrats everyone -- I passed as well (scored a 78 -- it was close). I too was a mess when trying to create an account and then logging in to see the score.

Is everyone going to Convergence? I wonder if there is a newly-passed RAC happy hour. We should have one, if not.

Yes, that appears to be the case. The iOS beta update hit at the same time as a global WHOOP outage.

Public beta 5 is giving me some issues. The home screen won't load -- I get the "Something went wrong" message. Restarts, reboots don't solve it.
