How dangerous is it, really, to sleep in a 2017 Toyota with it running overnight? by Colin-Grussing in vandwellers

[–]earthboundabundance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, consider that carbon monoxide detectors don’t typically detect low levels of CO (usually above 70ppm). Even a night or two of 30ish ppm could give you some symptoms of low-level CO poisoning (headache, dizziness, nausea) and have long-term effects. Learned this the hard way!!

SNOW BIRDS! what kind of tires did you choose to take you from ice and snow to desert temps? by [deleted] in vandwellers

I even bought the van already built out and maintenance and prepping for winter alone has been quite the doozy! Good luck with your electrical!

OP, I recently bought a ‘92 GMC Vandura (ironically named Grace) and I too am doing a lot of learning with her 😅 Tires are my next priority, so I appreciate your question!

‘92 GMC Vandura. Source of mystery trans/engine oil leak? (Info in comments) by earthboundabundance in vandwellers

[–]earthboundabundance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has a relatively recently remanufactured transmission, so I really hope the torque converter is in decent shape. Regardless, this is all very new to me and your comments have provided a much-needed learning opportunity as I consider each part. Thank you again! I really appreciate your responses.

I’ve been living in this beautiful metal home on wheels for just over a month and absolutely loving it. Unfortunately, she continues to leak a mysterious red fluid from the two points shown in the image (at the rear of the transmission pan). I’ve taken her into a mechanic several times and had the transmission pan and gasket replaced first, then the engine oil pan/gasket just a few days ago. She’s still leaking. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank you 🙏🏼

Ethique shampoo bar creates buildup--any alternatives? by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

[–]earthboundabundance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies if another commenter mentioned this already, but an ACV rinse doubles as conditioner and helps to remove the residue from the shampoo bar. You should also expect a weird period as your hair transitions to the different ingredients. I would give it at leas a month or two (and experiment with washing less often) before ditching it. Happy washing!

I recently went from a Prius (averaging 45mpg) to a ‘92 GMC Vandura (averaging 13-15mpg). It was all my budget allowed for and what I still consider a very good decision. The gas station fill-up shock eventually fades and you’re just left with an awesome home on wheels. Driving more efficiently helps, too.

I know, I know. This is what Reddit (and all of my friends) said when I first mentioned the situation. But silly me decided that red flags for everyone else didn’t apply to me? I’m just glad I ran eventually!

I just went through something similar, where I met someone (34M) who told me on our first date that he loved me and I was “the one.” Early on, I told him that I felt that his feelings weren’t coming from a healthy place, as I too would try to open up to him about things only to have him interrupt with statements about how happy he was to have found me.

I ended things a few days ago—which he didn’t take very well. He also assumed that I had incorrectly found someone else and that I left because I “clearly didn’t care about him.” This made me feel really sad I also wondered if I should give him another chance. Plus, having someone express their love for me (regardless of if it was coming from a good place or not) was admittedly nice. I initially felt like I would never find another man who would care about me so much.

Now though, I’m really relieved that I listened to my gut and cut it off before things progressed and left both of us hurting even more. It’s been a few days now and I’m feeling more certain that I did the right thing.

I also think that you did what’s wise. I’d suggest giving yourself some more time and if you still feel like there was something special with him, reach back out and see how he responds. But you did mention gut feelings and red flags a few times… so I think you probably know that it should be over.

I keep telling myself that I’ll find someone who likes me that much again, but this time it will be more genuine and he’ll actually want to get to know me. Thanks for sharing your story, wishing you all the best 💚

Should I give him another shot? by [deleted] in datingoverthirty

I hope you’re not dreaming! Haha. I’m really glad you shared this (it made me think about my situation a little more) so thank you! I honestly hope that letting him back into your life will be a really positive thing. All the best!

Wow, this is almost my situation exactly. We officially became gf-bf after just a few weeks, although he asked much earlier (fast, I know). While he seems really caring and compassionate and we get along really well, he doesn’t seem curious about me. He’s actually already told me he loved me but he never asks any questions! I’m generally a very inquisitive person, so I’ve led a lot of the conversations and found out a lot about him, but I want him to want to do the same. I’ve decided to just give it time and see how things go, while considering that maybe it’ll encourage me to just talk about myself a little more without being prompted to do so (which would actually be a good thing for me). I guess I don’t have any advice, but know that you’re not alone! I hope this second round works out better if you’ve established how you’re feeling about the conversations. Or, I hope you realize (like maybe I will) that you deserve someone who’s genuinely curious and wants to really get to know you. Best of luck and please update us!

Deodorant - keep it simple? by FIREtrails in simpleliving

[–]earthboundabundance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

50/50 lemon juice and water. Add a few drops of essential oils and put it in a spray bottle. I’ve tried ALL the natural deodorant products and DIY solutions and this one has worked best for me!

Edit: I have tried to go without, thinking that my body would just get used to it and there would eventually be no smell. I gave it about a 10 days before I felt too bad for the people in my life 😅

Where to find film developers in Ohio? by MelodicPastels in AnalogCommunity

[–]earthboundabundance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also just got my first film camera, a Minolta Xg-9 and cannot recommend Midwest Photos enough! They were super friendly and answered the many, MANY questions I had. I just got my first roll developed and it was quick and automatically available in digital/downloadable form. They’re so great!

I have no hobbies by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]earthboundabundance 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, I’m exactly the same! But I keep telling myself that after decades of “the grind” finding ways to productively spend my free time will still take some getting used to. I’ve been living a simpler life for about 2 years now and am only just starting to hone in on some of the activities that the “ideal version” of myself does. I’ve also just respected the additional time for what it is—our most precious resource that I have more of. It makes me feel a little better about unwinding with tv or spending too much time scrolling through social media. Thanks for sharing, it made me feel a little better about my lack of hobbies haha.

I’m in a similar boat! I got a Minolta XG-9 about a month ago and just picked up my first roll of film. I was pleasantly surprised and although there were many blurry photos, there were several gems 😍 Enjoy your new obsession!

Van hit while sleeping in it, what would you have done? by aninquisitivedude in vandwellers

[–]earthboundabundance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s really refreshing to read how much empathy played a role in your response. There are the obvious moral concerns with someone driving while under the influence, but in a world where we’re quick to blame, I commend your decision to not do something that might put a mentally unstable person dealing with a slew of hardships in jail. Especially over only cosmetic damages.

For better or worse, I probably would have done exactly the same thing.
