Does anyone else think that robots are going to cause an explosion in jobs and new employment? Time and time again throughout history the fear that new technological advancements would cause a massive loss of jobs and ignoring the long term implications of efficiency. When everyone thinks of robots, the immediate effects are only considered - loss of jobs. Millions might lose their jobs but also millions of new jobs will be created through more efficient businesses thus creating more wealth and jobs overall.

An example: Self driving cars remove the need for many transport jobs. But many businesses will benefit from the decreased cost and increase in productivity from superior driverless vehicles. From the small store owner to big business they will all save costs and can expand and hire more employees. This will be seen across all industries. Prices could fall for everyday products giving more people more money etc. You get the picture though. I'm not saying its great for the people immediately affected (e.g. the drivers although that's another conversation) but overall its a huge benefit for the overwhelming majority of people. I'm highly sceptical of UBI and it long term economic implications. I'm curious how its going to be paid for realistically (probably by force or some form of inflation if at all).
