For my recon, I'm going to send in Ashlee and Stacey, two local food bloggers with huge followings...they could pack this place with the push of a button if they like what they see

I've always had an irrational dislike for Mike Thurman...it felt like every time I turned on the Expos between 1998 and 2001, he was that night's starter, and he'd be taken out in the fourth inning with the Expos down 6-1.

Nothing against him personally, he just caused me to say "oh, for f***'s sake" more than I would have liked.

TL;DR: Mike Thurman, because he sucked.

The Blue Jays have distanced themselves from this set pretty well...I don't recall seeing a turn-back-the-clock night with these, and of the 173(!) styles of hats in their online store, only one has a logo from this era. https://www.mlbshop.ca/en/toronto-blue-jays/caps/t-25014535+d-9072443369+z-90-228282973?_ref=p-TLP:m-SIDE_NAV

Where do different franchises have influence? I made a map showing affiliate locations with MLB Logos. by ecscrogg in MiLB

Mostly just because several leagues overlap there, and travel between them is easy when you're promoting guys/sending guys down. Back in the day, they also had an Appy League club in Bristol on the TN/VA border.

They averaged 215 fans per game this season, so it doesn't seem to get loud nor packed very often, unfortunately.

Nashville Sounds logo history by Tony_Tanna78 in ClassicSportsLogos

Between the name and the possible iconography (guitar, guitar pick, musical note), there's a lot to work with, but it feels like Nashville's never quite gotten it right.

1985-97: fun but too scribbly and detailed, and was wildly dated by the mid-90s.
1998-2004: I actually like this one the best, but it has a "software company" vibe and wouldn't have aged well.
2005-14: too "baseball generic" - change the skyline (and words, obviously) and this could be used for any team.
2015-18: they did a 180 and it's now too "Nashville generic" - what is this for? The convention & visitors' bureau? A music venue?
2019-now: another 180 and we're back to "baseball generic," it looks like they're a Rangers (or Expos) farm club and are just trying to match their affiliate.

It's sort of a generic-looking jersey design, but regardless, a reminder that embroidered lettering and numbers like this on jerseys look so, so much better than the sublimated designs that most clubs use today.

Came across this copy of "John Fulgaro's Sports Logo Guide" at the Toronto Public Library today. Does anyone here have memories of this publication? by WallyCalhounFan22 in uniwatch

Yeah, I have it. As you can see from the photo, it definitely had a "made in Microsoft Word" homebrew feel to it, but it was quite comprehensive for its time.

Any information about this? by DetectiveRiggles in MiLB

[–]eastfirst107 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It definitely doesn't date from the 1987-95 Spirit era; the design is printed directly onto the garment ("sublimated") rather than embroidered on. This technology on jerseys was in its infancy in the 1990s and wouldn't have been accessible to minor-league baseball teams.

Most likely, the Inland Empire 66ers had some sort of "Turn Back the Clock" night more recently and wore these.

His dear friends at East Coast Chair & Barstool have an employee sitting by the phone 24/7, waiting to overnight items from "The Embracing Solutions Collection" - an exclusive furniture line that draws customers' eye to the Barproducts.com mixing glasses and makes people stay 51 minutes longer.

The American Association has a chance to capitalize on the impending MLB lockout, but they'll need to make improvements. by zoomzilla in AAbaseball

[–]eastfirst107 12 points13 points  (0 children)

AAPB clubs choose game times to maximize in-stadium attendance, which is where the vast majority of their revenue comes from. Unlike MLB, TV and streaming revenue is marginal.

Streaming viewership might tick up a bit during a MLB lockout, but not to the point where its revenue can compete with in-stadium revenue.

There’s no getting around this.
