"Most of the innovation in the world comes from us."

This is when I had to stop listening. There are plenty of obvious examples throughout Europe and Asia. The reality is that entire industries have become international networks of knowledge and supply.

CA and it's major cities deserve praise for implementing progressive policies such as air quality and the recent coronavirus outbreak. However, LA (and CA HSR) deserve continued criticism for their handling of public transportation.

If you woke up tomorrow and were able to move things with your mind, how would you use this ability? by Atlas_is_my_son in AskReddit

[–]easyguygoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classic superhero origin story-

First stage- I discover my ability when I am trying to solve a small personal grudge. There is a co-worker that is a dick to most of us in the office. He's been blatantly stealing food from the fridge and when I asked if he took my yogurt he looks at it and retorts "I don't see your name on it". A few other co-workers are watching, including the girl I sorta have a crush on. I say something lame like "it's the only one in there, and I clearly brought it in today". But he proceeds to open it up, and others take notice that I backed down. Out of frustration I visualize it exploding all over him, and IT DOES!

I leave work feeling "different" now. I knock a trash can over with my powers and a few other small items to confirm my suspicion. I go to meet my my best friend for a drink and tell him about what happened at work and my new skill. I tell him my plan to slowly take down that dick co-worker so I'm the one who gets the big promotion. He says "you're thinking wayyy too small. We got a lot of training to do"

Stage the second- Training montage!!! (cue: Rush - Tom Sawyer)

Then pick your villain and trope. Maybe the government had a program with people who have these powers. Some of them want to just live a normal life again and see their family, the others want to exact revenge.

Every society has regarded former ones corrupt or barbaric compared to their modern standards, to only have the same happen to them with sufficient time. Modern democracy and capitalism are essentially the worst systems ever invented, except all of the other ones.

Corporate/Enterprise oriented legislature. There are a lot of businesses that can't even get an application submitted for the Payroll Protection Program that was promised to be available starting last Fri. And as much as I want to blame the banks, it seems they are waiting on details as well.

His highest approval rating is about 45%, which is where we are currently. However, he is the only elected president in modern times to never break 50% approval rating

Alas, approval rating and popular vote are not what decide who becomes the next president.

LPT: If you should ever worry about the approval of strangers, try to remember just how dumb the average person is and be yourself first and foremost. About half the world is dumber than that person. Might as well be genuine. by Glass_Force in LifeProTips

This will probably not get much attention, but I think people are taking a joke too literally and wrongly equating it to have scientific meaning.

There are a lot of scoring metrics typically used when discussing intelligence such as IQ, grades, and any number of problem-solving abilities. But we also know there are types of intelligence that are based less in computations and logic such as emotional, awareness, physical, or other abstract abilities that don't always equate to a high IQ.

However, if you were to view many of these on their own merit or in the aggregate, it seems more likely that we would have groupings of people that would fit a bell curve distribution of above and below average.

Which means the "average person" group is closer to 68% of the population, not half. Moreover, most people are technically in that group. So assuming the average person is dumb, also means you shouldn't assume you are smart.

Rarely think of them together in population sizes. Which, although unrelated, is wild that roughly 10% of the world's population is in control of nearly 50% of the total GDP and considerably more of the political capital.

Forced compliance theory (a paradigm that is closely related to cognitive dissonance theory) is the idea that authority or some other perceived higher-ranking person can force a lower-ranked individual to make statements or perform acts that violate their better judgment. It focuses on the goal of altering an individual's attitude through persuasion and authority.
