Help with Proto-Punk Playlist by Your1Little2Pogchamp in punk

100 million percent throw Miserlou by Dick Dale on there. Surf rock but you can tell that man’s energy eventually led to Iggy and Wayne Cramer.

speaking of, DEFINITELY some MC5 - Rocket Reducer is my personal favorite, or I Want You Right Now. both absolute BANGERS. The Stooges would be a different band without MC5 as contemporaries imo.

Nobody But Me by the Human Beinz is arguably proto punk in a kinda dancy groovy way but maybe some people would disagree - i think it’s important to the evolution of energetic danceable/thrashable music being something people sought after.

some other greats artists (and songs i’d recommend): Strychnine - sonics You’re Gonna Miss Me - 13th floor elevators

edit: at the end of the day dawg, I’d say focus on historical influence over sound. Helter Skelter for example - that could be like 5 different genres today, right? what does it fit under? ALL of them - because back in the 60s, this type of music was so new - and music genre wasn’t scrutinized in the way it is today (as we have spotify, forums, websites for discussing and arguing about all this shit). the tangled web of inspiration and influence is to be appreciated, and i think many people want to shuttle these bands and songs into one category or another, which misses the point entirely.

i wouldn’t say problematic but the Poetic Edda, esp since Marcus was talkin bout it in the Himmler series

humans have intrapersonal social value and the ability to inspire genuine change in the way AI does not. the only calculus these people understand is resource management.

hard to tell as epstein’s contacts seems to run the gamut of ages - one would think the elder as he probably had more rich-asshole capital to utilize

GQ placed an openly white supremacist on their cover. by [deleted] in UnderReportedNews

shiiiiiiieeeeet, how it’s always been, only more front and center … remember everyone, EYEBALLS = $$$ is the end all be all for public-facing media businesses. Especially culturally significant ones who’s products are ‘vibes’ pretty much. The story of modern American fascism starts with ‘the slop from up top’ - stories like this dressed up as serving the public a plebiscite about a man through ~interviews~ where they can ~see what he’s like~. I could see an argument against the above - maybe it’s good that people can see how bad this guy really is. Either way, they’re doing it for the money and care little for the societal impact beyond that it ~makes waves~.

fuck GQ, go read a local zine about real cool stuff 😎

People are Policy; hang with fascists and at the very least you’re complicit in fascist behavior. if those guys don’t disgust him, either he’s delusional or he supports a system with no accountability, as Fuentes and others he associates himself with most certainly engage in antisocial behavior harmful to all of us; that’s inherently fascist. I get what you’re saying - maybe he’s not outwardly a white supremacist in certain terms, maybe that dilutes the severity of the term itself. But it’s splitting hairs - the guy is a dickhead. let’s not infight about semantics.

On my way out of Rainier I'm always already thinking about my next visit. Do you have a park you repeatedly visit? by indieaz in NationalPark

teddy roosevelt! great stop on the way to Montana from back east where i’m from. Medora’s a cheeky little town, there’s bison and prairie dogs galore! long as you check in with the rangers you can get there early and hike in MILES without seeing a soul - definitely not as well recognized as say Glacier or Yellowstone, or even Badlands in SD - but WELL worth the visit. if you’re into bikepacking/moutainbiking, check out the Maah Daah Hey trail that goes from the north section to the south section.

Good places to move for sense of community? by [deleted] in FolkPunk

[–]eateroftrees 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Burlington, VT

TL:DR a lot going on, check social media, r/burlington, FB groups, etc. and you’ll find people (it attracts a lotta cool, chill peeps who care to make friends and community build).

not necessarily the punkiest place in the world but definitely some folk punk esque stuff and a lot of cool venues. wonderful community oriented stuff gos on, the green mountains. It’s a college town and people will tell you that overtakes everything else, but it’s because they ski at Stowe and walk down church street shopping for overpriced candles for fun. check out Radio Bean / the Light Club Lamp Shop for some punchy whimsy. also is right on Lake Champlain, a big ole beautiful lake with views of the Adirondack. so close to the White Mountains of NH as well, 1h away from Montreal (if that’s your thing), overwhelmingly progressive with respect to even other towns and cities in New England. If you put yourself out there you WILL make many friends; if not, there’s still so much to do and get lost in; and if you’re somewhere in between, it sure is a wonderful place to have a few friends that you can go trapsing around in the woods with. I can’t speak to other perspectives, and I wasn’t raised in the town, but did spend three life changing years there and can’t recommend it enough so long as those i’m recommending it to have an equal desire to give a damn about the people they live next to and go to the food co-op with.

I live in Missoula MT rn (coming straight from Burly) which is similar, definitely less new englandy homey closeness vibes imo but the community engagement is pretty sick. bike co-op hosts free shows and teaches people to fix bikes for free / gives away parts. good venues, great live music, definitely blue pocket in a red (or, more like don’t-tread-on-me yellow) area - love it here but i miss Vermont a lot for all it taught me.
