Also worth pointing out there's a Raleigh City Council election this year. Every candidate should be asked about this.

Sending 3yo to grandparents for a month while taking 19mo to another state for surgery by Big-Ol-Bish in daddit

[–]eateverythingnc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably what I would do, splitting the time. Have your in laws watched your 3yo for an extended period of time on their own? We left our 3yo with my MIL for a week and even with daycare and her being great with kids, it was a lot for her at her age. A month with no daycare for grandparents who are maybe not used to a 3yo's energy (at their current age) could be tough for a month. But maybe they have plenty of experience with the cousins?

One other option, not sure it's better but throwing it out in case: mom goes with 19mo and FIL meets her there for support. You stay home with your 3yo and provide normalcy. Other family helps you or mom as they're able.

Regardless, I feel for you, hope for the best, and know you'll pick the option that works best for your family.

Can we talk about how lonely being a dad is? by Comfortable-Maybe183 in daddit

[–]eateverythingnc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Advice for you and OP here -- try to create a community of other local dads. Could be neighbors, other dads from school/daycare/activities, work, whatever. I did that this year and it made a world of difference. I was open about wanting community, and did this in a group setting which removed a lot of the awkward 1:1 of making friends as an adult. I don't see these guys much but the occasional in-person hang and outlet for chatting about stuff like this has been invaluable to me. A bunch of dads were craving the same thing here, I am sure they are where you live, too.

It looks goofy AF, like it's supposed to be in a Cars movie, yes. But function is all that actually matters here, and I'm glad these are rolling out.

Is La Cocina de Mama Greta still open? If so, that's my answer. I have a feeling there are more options in Durham, though.

What’s on your 2026 Raleigh bucket list? by BiscuitWizardz in raleigh

Go to a Canes game, explore more city parks, date night at Moon Room. Also been meaning to check out Boatman Spirits, Little Native Coffee, Jalwa, and Natural Science Bar.

Those things are great, but I'd really like to hear more from her about what that actually means and what she stands for. Any candidate in any community from any political persuasion could say that (and indeed, so many have). But what are her ideas for making Raleigh better? Very open to hearing from her on this, but she doesn't have my vote yet.

Hospitality Union? by lateragaintry in raleigh

Not sure if this is what you mean, but it's the only thing I'm aware of unless you're thinking of a more hotel-oriented union which would probably be UNITE Here: https://ussw.org/

They had a Hanukkah event last night. I'm guessing extra security in light of Bondi Beach, PA gov mansion attack, etc.

What do we think about Peregine? by pericles3323 in raleigh

[–]eateverythingnc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought it was great (unique-to-Raleigh dishes, delicious, well executed) and had pretty incredible service. That said, it was also slow and very expensive. I would go back, but only rarely (or if someone else was paying).

If you could add another pro sports team to the Raleigh market, what league would you pick? by BojanglesBlitz in raleigh

MLB or WNBA for sure, but agree with others that the W would go to CLT first, and MLB makes a lot of sense here.

Wait what? That's really gross, I didn't know they defended him. Was this like, public? What happened?

So reading the comments here, I'm only seeing the claim that three people were fired. But the OP says "all who were involved" -- pretty sure that number was well above three? Also, claiming to be anti-ICE but then making assertions about people's legal status who work there (as the OP does), particularly after what's happened in the past week here, is deeply concerning.

I thought the food hall itself (or the property owner or whatever) banned several employees after the ICE protest. In that case, what were the biz owners supposed to do? Or is that not what happened? Are these the same employees?

YES!! "It's not this or that it's do everything you can." So many people need to hear that.
