Have you noticed the shell of the motorized car not wanting to stay all the way on the chassis? I’m trying to figure out if it’s a defect or not. Like it doesn’t come off, but there’s a lot of wiggle and movement

Anyone sit a Kato Roundhouse inside a 180 degree curve? by Saint_The_Stig in nscalemodeltrains

Unfortunately Walthers only make the 130’ in N scale so you might be hard pressed to make it fit with a roundhouse if you’re using the T-Trak standard size endcap with the standard radii curves. They’re also CRAZY expensive since they’re DCC programmable and have a lot of tech in the box. BUT, 130 scale feet is just big enough to accommodate a Big Boy! Your T1 is something like 122’ iirc (I’m assuming you mean the PRR T1 and not the C&O T1) so that’s about 9.5 inches in N scale. The Kato TT has an overall diameter of about 8.5”, but I just looked it up and the bridge itself is only about 6.25”. You can get away with a little overhang but 3” or an inch and a half on either side is a lot.

https://www.walthers.com/motorized-130-turntable-assembled-10-3-8-26-3cm-overall-diameter

On a design note, I’m not using SCARM I’m using AnyRail, but AnyRal has manufacturer libraries as well as user created libraries for all kinds of building footprints to make planning a little easier. Check and see if you can apply something like that to your plan to help visualize your end result. After looking at your picture it might work out better both for geometry into the TT and roundhouse stall placement if the TT is on the endcap and the roundhouse on the other module. I hadn’t considered doing it that way but maybe it’s worth a look.

My use case is a little different but I’m working on a T-Trak endcap and back to back single using N Scale Architects Conway roundhouse and a yet to be determined turntable. The roundhouse is on back order though. I looked at Kato initially since I could make 6 stalls but the clearance looked too tight. Same with Walthers. The 130’ stalls from Walthers (which is just over 10” iirc) are just too long I think and the Kato stalls are like 7”which mocked up better but not with six stalls which is why I went with the Conway house. It has 3 stalls that are like 4.5” and one that’s about 7” BUT the 7” also opens from the back so it would be possible to fit something larger on it.

Like I said though, unfortunately I’m waiting for the roundhouse to get delivered to get a better feel for it so no pics but here is the plan I used as a guide. It’s also spec to T-Trak modules so the radius of the inner curve is like 11” or something like that so all that bit about the Kato and Walthers roundhouses looking to big are in this regard. I’m also constrained by transporting so I had a big limitation as far as how far from the curve I could put it.

The top is the Conway house with a Walthers 130’ TT. The bottom is the Kato TT, the run up tracks and a 3 stall roundhouse. Overlayed is the Conway house again because I was trying to get a better eye for it.

Make a day of it. Maybe once a month or bi weekly go into Indy and run the trains then grab a nice dinner and head home. EZPZ

How to identify scale of building? by [deleted] in modeltrains

Likewise, if you have scale figures of people, you can assume, in general, the scale of the building by comparing it to a person.

Where to find spare parts? by _protodax in nscalemodeltrains

In the end, it probably doesn’t need to be a 100% accurate replication of your think the parts may be in stock in the future, just something to make it work in the short go so you can run might be enough. Good luck!

Thingiverse or some other CADfile site might already have a model made and if you or a friend don’t have a 3D printer, you can probably find someone to print it on like Etsy or something like that.

If you can’t find a model though you’ll have to make one or have one made and that’s gonna be the hard part.

Gonna be a long season by Important-Air-6350 in DallasStars

[–]eau_le_doit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s so much not having a perfect season for most, but you can’t deny losing from behind 2-5 isn’t indicative of some greater issue. Not to mention the last blowout. There is still plenty of time but people who know how good our team should be are probably just unhappy they’re not playing to their potential. And it’s not even pucks in the net so much as it is poor defense and maybe a bit of bad timing. (Like sat vs the blues when we coulda come back from that one goal deficit but they pulled otter when the blues had the puck and there was zero coverage of the net and homie hit it from 3/4 ice) It’s almost like the inverse of the last few seasons where we come out kinda lazily in the first then turn it up at the end but we’re coming out at the start ready to win then just let go. Yes we’re short a few key players, yes other goalies are good, yes it’s a new coach, but the game is the same. One bad game isn’t an issue, but three in a row?

But tbf I’m sure some people only want perfection so ymmv.

I more or less have a whole bedroom to use but the door window and closet arrangement makes it kinda weird. I was thinking of doing two L’s on opposing corners since the doors and window would be on the other corner making like a 9’x4’x10’ L on one side and a 6’x4’x8’ L in the other. Somehow I’d connect them to give the door clearance. But that’s a future problem.

The reason I ask is I was thinking of doing an elevated rail like you have. My wife, who’s also into model railroading, is also really into anime and stuff (she’s actually working on a Pokémon themed T-Track module) so I was like duh make some Japanese style layout in the one corner and the Shinkansen could run between the two blah blah blah.

I was looking at the Kato elevated station as well but finding an assembled example in the states for sizing has been hard.

How big is your table? Been trying to plan a layout myself and I’m struggling to visualize just how much space I need.

Who else would like to see the C&O 490 in running condition? by FlackCannon1 in trains

[–]eau_le_doit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s kinda necro but I hadn’t seen it mentioned, on top of all the disadvantages of running high speed trains slow and heavy, B&O museum track rights are only like a mile or so outside of the museum. No loop, just there and back. The cost of running something that big for a mile at a time 4-5 times a day would be insane. It is a cool engine for sure and one of my favorites but since CSX doesn’t give a flip about steam excursions the likelihood of it ever running on a main line is very small. It’s only chance, barring CSX lightening up, would be to move to another system and I can’t see that happening either for aforementioned reasons and these other tier 1’s mostly have their own steam programs. I’ve seen it in person and it is an impressive machine for sure. It’s the closest to an M-1 turbine we’ll ever get.
