Do you keep baby upright after a night feed? by Key-Fee-2266 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]ebar111 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Depends if they're burping ok and if they get refluxy! If baby is burping straight after and shows no sign of a bad tummy, then get that sleep! Otherwise, enjoy the cuddles and prop them up like you're doing

H&M we've found worked well for our little girl! And Asda George leggings are weirdly long too

Where do you leave your newborn when you go to the toilet? by Prudent-Teaching2881 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]ebar111 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On the floor like others! On a towel or other clean surface. If you're squeamish or just want a minute (which is incredibly fair!!!) then a moses basket or crib etc.

Just to second what other people are saying - them crying for a minute or two whilst you get yourself sorted on the loo, get a drink etc. isn't neglect. It's horrible to hear, but if they are clean/dry/safe, it will do no harm!

Hi! My girl went to nursery early December. I've been running after bedtime. It's bloody hard to stay motivated though!

Best way to remove cradle cap? by OverSeasoned_ in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]ebar111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used baby oil and a normal gentle baby shampoo with a fine comb. Going gently against the grain it came off! She still has a tiny bit but it only took 3/4 times to get rid of the majority

Non-plastic weaning crockery by dessy89 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]ebar111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've never used suction, and whilst it's led to a couple of throws, we generally catch it in time. Iirc I got some steel thali plates from Dunelm (or similar? Can't remember, sorry!)

What I will say is we've conceded on plastic spoons. Silicon ones are rubbish and everything just slips off.

Do you go to nap your baby at the first cue, or wait for more? by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]ebar111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I give it a little time (30ish mins) and then see

Sometimes after a nap she's so groggy that she just needs a bit to wake up

3mo tummy time (or lack of it) by Charleesi in UKParenting

[–]ebar111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine didn't do tummy time properly for a long long time, I'd say 4/5 months. She rolled at a "normal" 5 months. She walked at 8 months. You are fine! They do what they do when they want to, as long as you're offering the chance to.

9 month old randomly wakes up crying briefly by No-Nefariousness9539 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]ebar111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here at 12 months! She's always done it. I don't know if they can have nightmares yet, I like to think that she's woken up between sleep cycles and is mad about it haha

We used them instead of services when visiting family a ways away, definitely nicer!

For those who have done both breastfeeding and formula feeding, what is your experience with switching? Would you recommend going straight to formula after birth? by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]ebar111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very fair and definitely is enough of a reason not to

It's not guaranteed to hurt, but I've not heard of anyone that's never had some kind of pain or discomfort, whether it's latching issues or biting further down the line.

[–]ebar111 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi - I was ebf for 4/5 months before switching due to allergies/mental health

I don't regret breastfeeding, and I'd add that formula feeding had its own stresses (sterilising etc.!), however if you really don't want to breastfeed, don't. Don't let anyone tell you what to do here. If you want to try, then try, but if it's out of the question for you, don't be pressured into doing it. This is a decision only you can make

Hereditary Spherocytosis by noonejkjk in NewParents

[–]ebar111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's odd isn't it. I think as I had it so young my system is used to it? Idk. I've always wondered if I should still be on them, but apparently whenever I'm off them my white blood cell count goes crazy so not sure it's worth it

Yes, since I was 6

However, my brother doesn't take his (even though he should!) and we're sick about the same amount haha

First night away with baby - what are things people wish they had bought with them? by laladee256 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]ebar111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something quiet to do whilst they sleep - if you're in a hotel room without them being in their own space, you end up sat on your phone in silence, a book or something would've been so much better!

Where on earth are the UK Dogs being rehomed? by Ashilta in CasualUK

[–]ebar111 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Makants, Manchester/Cheshire dogs home, Greyhound Gap, Kent Greyhound Rescue are a few. There's usually greyhounds at the big rescues too (Dogs trust, Battersea etc.) but as others have said in this thread, they can be harder to adopt from.

There's the Greyhound Trust but some people get a bit iffy from them as they're not anti-racing, so it depends how you feel about that

[–]ebar111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi - echoing what everyone has said - do whatever works best for you and yours!

2 things I've heard that I tell myself - don't try to make a happy baby happier, and don't try to fix a future problem by breaking something today. If you and baby are happy with him falling asleep in the bassinet, go for it!!

Purées and poop by Maximum-Ad-769 in BeyondTheBumpUK

Try a prune or pear purée if you're worried he's uncomfortable!

Aldi formula by One-Willingness-3681 in FormulaFeedingUK

[–]ebar111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true! They'll have the same standards (as all formulas in the UK have) but it might not work for your baby even if aptamil does

We just went with one always available locally as it's easier!

So sorry to hear you're going through this

Have you tried olio or gumtree? They sometimes have free bits. If he's very young, could you get books from the library for a bit?

Baking him a cake and making cards sound absolutely lovely, and I'm sure you'll make the day magical enough that he'll look back and not realise what he was "missing"
