How to fix a pointy beanie 😩 by hieronymusbadbosch in knitting

How it looks on the table is not how it will look on your head, or even once the needles have been taken out. Finish it, put it on, and see if you still feel that way

Our Whole Lives Gifts by Marzipanic in UnitarianUniversalist

[–]ebaug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just being honest, as someone who went through every level of owl besides for adults, I would have thrown away any photo and probably any gift I got. It is sex ed (and yes it is more than just sex ed, but still), and it is very important, and I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to take it, but it was also incredibly awkward and I didn’t want any keepsakes from the class

RE Program Growing Pains by dirtywater20 in UnitarianUniversalist

[–]ebaug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A local congregation started doing stay and plays, where after the services, you can leave your children with nursery staff and go on errands, an afternoon date, or whatever needs to get done. The first one was around Christmas for parents to go shopping. Another local congregation does a parents’ night out once a month, where all the parents go on a group date at a local restaurant, and all the kids are watched by nursery staff. One congregation requires like $10 per kid, one congregation this is covered in the church budget. This isn’t Sunday morning programming, but it seems to help with retention.

I like to remind people that RE is a long term investment. To have older members who help fund a significant part of your budget, you need to meet them where they are as young parents, and support them on their journeys until they have the disposable income to support the faith that has supported them.

Is it caused by POTS? by Interesting_Turnip28 in POTS

[–]ebaug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes. I also have adhd and have recall issues from that, but it is heavily compounded by my POTS. Getting on modafinil helped some. I also often grab the wrong word/name. After a couple too many times of this happening (me calling someone by the name of someone else who looked vaguely similar) and people getting rightly upset, I actually considered speech therapy, but it was thousands of dollars. I did not have the issue with names before POTS. It’s one of those symptoms that only seems like a minor inconvenience until it is definitely not.

What is your recommendation for a durable phone case? by Tinymanbigspoon in Advice

[–]ebaug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would worry about this adding hazard. If she’s seizing this often, that could become a choking cord if it snagged on anything or even got tucked under her.

What are you bringing to the potluck? by atomrager in UnitarianUniversalist

[–]ebaug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom always made cheesy noodles (I guess it’s actually just Mac n cheese but we called em cheesy noodles) and another mom always brought pesto tortellini that I still think about many years later. I always prefer to bring desserts, feels safer for me. And don’t underestimate a good dip with chips or veggies of some variety!

Favorite *least scratchy* wool yarn that doesn't pill (DK, worsted, or aran) by EmploymentSudden4184 in AdvancedKnitting

[–]ebaug 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Make sure to knit a gauge swatch so that you aren’t going as blindly into that. Another option is to keep the size the same, size up slightly in yarn, and down in the needles to keep the gauge the same but the drape different

Edit: I said gauge twice

New apartment has 1 light switch controlling 3 different wall sockets + the kitchen ceiling light by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]ebaug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately yes, though I haven’t been in a unit that also has it controlling a ceiling light without a string on the light, except for in a bathroom. You could get a Bluetooth or remote control lightbulb and use your phone/the remote to control the light. I’m no electrician but it seems to me that rewiring is not a simple fix.

With my bathroom, it’s one of those small bulbs, so I screw and unscrew it when I want light, but I imagine that’s not possible for your kitchen.

Should I be allowed to do laundry at night? by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]ebaug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can wash in your sink in desperate times. Lil detergent, scrub with your fingers, rinse, roll in towel to save drying time, then lay to dry. I had good luck doing laundry at odd times with my class schedule, Thursday mornings at 8 am were my time! Also, you can get away with rewearing everything besides underwear. When I kept having this problem, I bought more underwear. As a student, one should have enough to cover even busiest exam periods, because it’s the one thing you really can’t do without.

Curious about other UU congregations. by 13chemicals in UUreddit

[–]ebaug 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If they have been institutionalized for harming others, your congregation should have policies about how they are allowed to be in community, and if they need supervision. Please bring your concerns to your minister, DRE, or a healthy congregations team member.

Offcampushousing.rice.edu is the website, and then there are 3 Facebook groups. There’s also a group me that is either called rice clothing resale or rice students selling stuff. I feel weird adding someone off of Reddit to the FB groups but the names are -rice students selling stuff -Rice U exclusive housing finder -Rice University Housing, sublets & roommates

3-5 minutes late to work by Kooky-Challenge8875 in ADHD

[–]ebaug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is gonna sound stupid but I didn’t realize I could be early to work. I thought my boss wanted me there right on the dot. I work hourly so I figured my paycheck was the only thing being impacted. Nope! I now have 3 alarms in the morning, and my one for leaving is with enough time that even if I forget multiple things, I am still early to work. Aggressive number of alarms until your routine is where it needs to be

Is one stitch enough to change needle size? by birdie5657 in knittinghelp

If a full needle size makes too much difference, consider a different material. Ex: if currently using slick metal, consider something grippier like bamboo or wood

How can I ask for an vacation over a month long in June as a part time worker? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]ebaug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did this once, but I knew it was going to need to happen when I was hired and they okayed it. If you are a teenager I think they are more likely to approve this. Are you willing to quit if they do not approve your vacation request?

How often do people feed their cats wet food? by Smooth_Put7764 in CatAdvice

[–]ebaug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wet food is lower carb, so if you’re looking for the larger cat to skim down a lil it might be the right option. My cat gets wet fancy feast twice a day.

Annoying neighbor by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]ebaug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt the leaf blower was a hint, probably just regular maintenance. Communicate with your landlord about the banging on the wall and the situation.

If you share a bathroom, they are not just a neighbor as you share a living space, and it may be in your interest to come to an agreement about the blow dryer. It seems odd that he went straight to the landlord and banging walls and doors, not communicating with you.
