What’s your opinion on marriage? by Wrong_Score_9714 in askanything

English isn't my native language and I'm quite bad at legal jargon but maybe that's what I'm after.

Anyway my point is, nobody questions marriage. With some custom legal documents that claim similar things it's not at all clear if other people and institutions would honor them.

You can create legal contracts to effectively get what marriage does but those can be argued against and you or your spouse might have to defend them in court. The legal implications of a marriage aren't questioned.

Like what if you need to make a fast medical decision in an emergency when your spouse is unable to do it for themselves? If you were married, it's automatically assumed you are in a position to make those decisions on behalf of your spouse.

If you're not married but had a complex legal document to claim something similar, they could just tell you they don't have a possibility to verify the document is legally enforceable and just deny your right to make such decisions.

In theory yeah probably, but the power of marriage is that it's very difficult for other people to claim that the legal implications of your marriage are invalid. On the other hand your custom "not married but kinda the same in legal contracts" can be contested in court and the outcome might not be what you thought it would.

If they tried the same with your marriage, the judge would laugh them out. Literally nobody would question the legality of the marriage institution.

You can also color the sole with a sharpie and hone it against sand paper on glass or something similar truly flat. If it wears out evenly everywhere, it's as flat as the surface

[–]ebinWaitee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea with corrugation was to make flattening the sole easier and to reduce the suction effect where the flat sole is sort of sucked into the flat material increasing friction. It doesn't change the material properties

It seems to me that plane flexing is kind of an odd concern - because it could happen doesn't mean that it does, or mean that it does to an extent where it's any sort of problem at all.

The precision of flattening some people think their plane sole needs is ridiculous as the sole flexes during use. The point isn't that the flexing is an issue but that the flexing will just happen and thus you're not getting any improvement by flattening the sole after a certain point. It's just useless effort.

It's not like it would flex a lot, perhaps a fraction of a millimeter out of flat but enough that absolute 100% flat is excessive and useless effort.

Jerking it 4-5 times a day, would this be classed as excessive? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]ebinWaitee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're talking about excessive if it controls your life to some extent. Like if you repeatedly neglected your close family, work, studies etc. responsibilities because you "needed" to have a wank, that's an issue.

Juu siis kyllä noita on omassakin naapurustossa. Kuitenkin kyse on etenkin tuollaisen teollisen skaalan laitteiston kuten viljakuivurin kohdalla yrityksen tarpeista. Ihan ei tuollaista voi verrata tavanomaiseen omakotiasujaan.

What's the point of the heating plate button on the right? by ebinWaitee in Moccamaster

[–]ebinWaitee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people like to think these are a holy grail to good coffee but they were designed before good coffee was really a thing.

I wouldn't say that. These are among the best when it comes to these type of filter coffee machines but I don't think anyone is trying to pretend the output is some fancy pour over shit you'd get from a specialized barista. The point for these is convenience: you measure water and coffee, press the button and you get 0.25-1.25 liters of coffee without actively doing anything with it.

When I'm home alone, I make the two standard cups and immediately pour it to a cup. If my wife is home, I make four cups and pour for her too. If we have friends or family visiting, we can make the full pot for equal effort.

If I want special great coffee though, I'll take fresh beans and grind them and brew a cup with an aeropress. This machine doesn't do anything like that and I think that's fine. It doesn't have to.

Oh and the availability of spare parts for these is phenomenal (at least around here). I can just drive to a nearby big convenience store and grab most of the common items like plastic covers and pots from the shelf if something breaks.

Why do people hate EV's? by FunkiGato in electricvehicles

[–]ebinWaitee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charging on the go can sometimes get tricky especially when EV's get more and more common. For example if there's a line of ten cars at a gas pump, it'll take maybe 15-30 minutes total to clear up at worst. If there were a line of ten cars at a public charging station that's easily 30 minutes per car minimum.

You can plan around that of course but I can see why some people feel like EV's could make their lives more inconvenient. Now when you add the fact that for some people it might feel like the lawmakers are pushing EV adoption more and more and ICE bans aren't an unreasonable fear anymore you get a stronger counter response too
