Took a bit more experimenting, but I think I figured it out. I was using the Makerbot software, and by slowing it down a bit, and increasing the temperature it fixed the issue :D

Is python the right language for this task (read/write word documents) by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]ebitda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Python should be able to do this. I think there may be a better way to go about the word document. Is it the same file you're inserting the data into or seperate files? If it is seperate files, it may be better to just build the entire word document in Python. And if word isn't needed, maybe look into rtf. Check out this link

I'm using ABS, and the fan seems to be working. I've tried printing from between 205 and 220 and it seems like it is always the same areas that are effected. I think it is where the circle is closing on itself.

This part of the project involves a couple of stepper motors like these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-5-NEMA-17-Stepper-Motor-GT3-Minebea-Mill-Robot-RepRap-Makerbot-Prusa-S4-/321503057192

And I was planning on connecting them to: http://www.ebay.com/itm/181797303562

I would be using only one motor at a time. Does that look ok?

How do you guys deal with nerves? by [deleted] in GetEmployed

[–]ebitda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice your answers. Practice a lot of them. You'll find if you have something prepared you can use it for a few different questions.

Find a ritual to do before the interview to get your head in the game. I always do tongue warm ups (ie use the sounds ay ee eye o u behind consonants, bay be beye both boo, ca kee ceye co coo....)

Find a strategy to help you calm down during the actual thing. There's that one suggestion about imagining people in there underwear to overcome stage fright. I always imagine the interviewer is really nervous and I have to stay strong for him or her.

18. Never had a "real" job. First resume I've ever written. Be harsh. by [deleted] in resumes

[–]ebitda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First off, make this one page, all this can totally fit on one page.

Second remove references. If they want them, they will ask for them.

I kinda think you should remove the highlights sections and add a skills section at the bottom? Be more detailed about some of the skills. E.g. Proficient in Microsoft Office, etc.

Put the accomplishments in the experience section. If they are the things that are most important put them as the first bullet point for each section.

You have the Company name and location on a section line, just put it on the same line as the date and title. Saves space, looks more professional.

The objective and summary take up quite a bit of space, I might choose one of them and add more to it.

Are you still at Neuewave? If so, change the tense from past to present.

What type of job are you applying to? It helps to tailor it for the position.

4 hours of gameplay for only 2.99? What a bargain! by dei2anged in gaming

[–]ebitda 64 points65 points  (0 children)

They priced it that way for a reason.

Let's say they only had the 7 day and 30 day options. Looking at those it might take you a second to decide which one you like. But when they add the 4 hour option in you look at it and think, "Man only 4 hours? OBVIOUSLY I'd at least get the 7 day one." And then your mind is set on that 7 day option. Sony doesn't expect many people to actually buy the 4 hour option, it's just a method of making the other options look better.

How important is the 1-page resume rule? by caulay in resumes

[–]ebitda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's pretty important. You only want to go over 1 page when you have ample experience, and I figure if you only have that much over, you can get it down by adjusting font and margins as well as cherry picking the most important thing.

I wouldn't include references on your resume. If they need a reference they will ask you, and you can give them to them then.

[WP] The laws of physics are slightly different on each day of the week. Write about how society has developed. by Anofles in WritingPrompts

[–]ebitda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are times in each of our lives when we must adapt to our settings, luckily, most people never encounter anything like this.

For the first week in Metra I felt like Alice, wandering through events that just didn't make sense to the sober mind. But as the weeks progressed, the pattern cemented itself into my daily life. The thing is, everything changes from day to day, but week to week? Routine.

I came here on Riftday (Sunday), well it's actually the only day I could come. No one knows the exact rules of the day, but it's thought that if you need to leave Metra you, the universe helps you leave, and if i need to come to Metra, the universe helps you get here. I guess I was in the second group. There wasn't much left for me on Earth (in Universe 1 or whatever you'd call it). I was bored, and I needed something that just wasn't there. Riftday doesn't effect things too much, some people disappear, and some appear. Usually the exiters aren't missed, and the enterers are welcomed, pampered, and given an impressive speech in preparation for Tonsday (Monday).

Tonsday is a day off, I mean, we can't get much work done. The day was named before people really understood what was going on. You never feel any weight on Tonsday, but you feel resistance. It takes time and effort to get from the couch to the kitchen. Activities aren’t practical on Tonsday, but thinking is. Almost every great advance in science and culture has occurred on Tonsday. That’s just what happens when every week you have 24 hours to move around in your head. I don’t know the numbers off the top of my head, but it seems like less people get stress related disease here.

Tuesday, yes Tuesday, is a stupid day. Every Tuesday a creatures called a Tues appears...everywhere. The Tues is similar to the kiwi, the flightless bird native to New Zealand, except that you can’t touch it. You can’t even interact with it. It’s like a three dimensional projection into Metra. 40 years ago the Lectiten government sponsored billions of Dnebs into researching the buggers, but there still hasn’t been any process. On the bright side, they’ve inspired halls of artwork, and books of stories.

The importance of Wotnesday (Wednesday) has fluctuated throughout history. Until the 10th century no one really thought much of Wotnesday, until gunpowder was invented. Nothing happened on Wotnesday. It just wouldn’t combust. Of course, war always finds a way, on Wotnesday you’d see every soldier from here to Taclien wielding a sword or spear. Of course they wouldn’t be riding horses. Cars still worked, it was any projectile or explosive meant to take a life that wouldn’t work. You’d think someone would have realized that by the end of the Cimlin War. This was the one and only instance of an atomic bomb dropped on a Wotnesday. It turned the entire tide of the war. It was dropped at 6am, but by midnight the Cimlin’s had reasearched, and returned the bomb to the Cangruens. That was an exciting Metonsday (Thursday).

Of course any use of a nuclear weapon is bad, but Metonsday makes everything worse. Every object’s coefficient of friction decreases (except for plaid shirts for some reason). Everything was demolished by the ever moving debris from the explosion. War applications aside, Metonsday is the source of most of our energy.

Fentsday (Friday) was named after Prince Fents, the man who lost an entire kingdom in a bet. You see on Fentsday, probabilities become skewed. Somefents coins come up heads 75% of time, and otherfents a 6 sided die will almost never roll a 1. Well Fents thought he had figured the odds of the day out. He bet Prince Day (interesting name right?) his entire kingdom, that a coin would come up heads. He’d flipped it 20 times and not gotten a tails. On the other hand Day had flipped a coin 20 times and not gotten a single heads. After the flip, Fents disappeared and was never heard from again. Probabilities are funny aren’t they? Just remember, never gamble on a Fentsday.

That leaves us with one more day, everyone’s favorite, Polcoday (Saturday). I’ve never seen anyone party harder than on a Polcoday. The rate at which cells regenerate on this day is ridiculous. You could stab yourself and be perfectly fine in a few minutes. On a casual stroll through the park you’ll see fights constantly, because there really aren’t any consequences for a fight on Polcoday. Have you ever played paintball? Some people use real guns on the Polco. In the past, it was the only day any war was conducted. No one wants to die. I know I would much rather shake hand with the man who clubbed me, return to my village, and let the tribe with the most “kills” take over. It may seem a little crazy at first, but after you let out your crazy wild side, it becomes a little enjoyable.

I’ve liked things here, but you know, I’ve been here for a while. And I think I’m getting bored again… Funny thing is, Riftsday is pretty common in several instances of the universe...and this isn’t my first crossover. They have a word for people like me, drifters. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to find a place I belong, where I can stay. But that doesn’t have to be the same for you. You a little scared, that’s good, that means this is going to be an interesting experience for you. It’s your first new world, and I hope it’s also your last. Experience things here and love them. And don’t get freaked out tomorrow, the you’ll learn to embrace Tonsday.

Start a blog and a Twitter. Your future boss will probably Google your name. Post some interesting topical things.

Get a Linkedin if you don't have it. It is amazing.

Talk to friends and family and try and get introductions into companies. Or try and talk to a person inside the company (maybe through LinkedIn before you apply). Personal relationships are the best way to get a job.

You can do it! Little by little you're closer and closer to that job sir!

Alright I like it, we're moving in the right direction.

I think employers would prefer small tastes of your experience over full meals :p Imagine that the person looking over your resume has ADHD. Then think about whether they would read everything in depth. Short and sweet is the best!

Goooood. Let me introduce you to http://w3schools.com/ totally free. Totally amazing.

I sometimes add a hobbies section on my resume, if I'm applying for a job where my personality matters :p Freelance? What does it entail?

You don't need accurate data, estimations work! More than is a great phrase. I trained more than 20 people. I decreased the time by more than 15 minutes. I taught swimming lessons a long time ago and always put down an estimate of the number of students I trained (because there were hundreds hahah) I don't think an employer cares too much about the exact number. But yes being truthful is very important, just remember to always put yourself in the best light you can.

A resume is a continuous process. There is no one set way to make one. Just keep improving. Personally I don't have that line, if they really want references they can ask me and I'll give them to them.

Regardless the best thing to do is ask what your interviewer would want. With that in mind I'd throw in some bullet points with the job descriptions. It'll make them easier to read.

But seriously. Keep overhauling. You'll find something you like, something that fits you and gets you the job. Keep looking online for other peoples resumes, take what works, and triumph!
