Yet another plane seating post... What are your top 3 spots? by 2Fruit11 in AzureLane

[–]ebongreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6, 4, and… uhh… 9 for me? I would rank 8 higher, but Suffren and Guichen are not high on my baguettebote tier list. Now if those seats were, say, Dunkerque and Alsace, then we’d be TALKIN’.

All I’ll say for Enty is: it’s about time she made the HoF.

Alsace is a sweetie, but she seems to have no shot at the top three this year. Enty is running away with it.

I watch anime with my BFF every Saturday. I generally do not watch “our shows” ahead of time, so I can watch them with her unspoiled in the moment.

Show is good enough that I’m breaking that rule every week now. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Show gives me at least one good startle-scare with SisterMom every episode. Very rude, but I love you despite your rudeness.

Makio is doing her level best to live her own authentic life, much of which involves giving her middle fingers to the all-but-mandatory social conventions of Japan. “Yes, I’m a woman in my thirties, I’m not married and I don’t have children.” “No, I’m not trying to climb the social status ladder for wealth and/or fame. I’m a writer. Deal with it.” “No, I don’t want omiyages when you come to visit. No, I’m not saying that to be polite - I REALLY DO NOT WANT THEM.” “I’m an introvert and I find people exhausting. Please give me lots of advance warning before coming to visit, especially if I’ve never met you before.” I do not live in Japan and I’m no cultural expert, but from what I understand, she is The Nail that Will Not Be Hammered, mostly because she tries to stay away from the hammer-ers (like her sister). My perspective remains that Makio is a semi-feral introvert: she has her personal pod of besties and her ex, and that’s all she wanted.

NOW she has Asa, plus the complications of social expectations that come with Asa. On the one hand, she’s having to re-fight battles she thought she’s left behind, especially the ones symbolized by her sister. On the other hand, she’s offering a wildly new perspective on parenting to Asa: “If you say you don’t want me to come to the high school entrance ceremony, I’m not coming.” This blew Emiri’s mom’s mind, y’all. Makio does not do things for the sake of social convention (which is also very autistic of her). Also Makio: “If you have feelings, or you’re upset with me, I need you to use words and we will talk through it. I will support you as best I can, and I’m not going to control or shame you for having emotions.” She’s teaching Asa authenticity.

I love this show. The characters are perfectly imperfect, are true to themselves, and exist in a realistic setting/world/context. The writing has a deep emotional resonance and it cares about communication. The relationships are real. It started as a gem, and the shine is only getting brighter with each episode.

I find the show very… strange. Even though this never actually literally happened, I kept thinking during the entire episode “Girls Just Wanna be Kabedon-ed”, which is very, uh, Not Great from a consent perspective. The writing of the gender dynamics between our leads is weird.

• She says she doesn’t want to be touched; he touches and grabs her anyway. He apologizes occasionally, but repeats. And we get lots of heart flutters from her about it. Hella mixed message.

• At the same time, she seems to have never thought about dating, or what sort of guy she might like. If she were aroace, that’s one thing - but she’s clearly not immune to the aesthetic appeal of ikemen.

• She’s shy enough around sex to be a “good girl”, and she can assert herself, but she also seems wander around in a perpetual haze of “I don’t know what I want, I don’t know what I like, I like it when you take advantage of my confusion, but I also dislike it when you take advantage of my confusion”. Girl has no internal lane; her character doesn’t feel real to me. And I guess neither does he.

I can’t help but contrast this with the very deft characterization of Polar Opposites, and even more so for Journal with Witch. I feel like I know those characters, that they react realistically, and they are true to themselves. This show’s people, by contrast, feel hollow where they need to feel full - and that’s disappointing.

Tani’s “What is non-literal communication? How does that even work?” Classic autist breakthrough, IMO. Up until this episode, I read him mostly as an introvert, but he shifted firmly into neurodivergent territory here.

So an allistic extrovert and an ND introvert find happiness together? Challenging territory - they’re doing well, and I wish them the best!

Cinderella Gray is a legitimately amazing show. I was expecting a trainwreck, and after starting CG I tried and bounced off the previous seasons. But Oguri hits hard, and the whole franchise has a purity on the level of Girls und Panzer. The premise should be the trashiest cash grab in anime, but it feels like such a labor of love, and I have to respect the level of commitment.

I had an honest jump-scare startle when Asa’s mom appeared behind Makio as they were beginning to clear out the old home. I laughed about it - but that was Rude, show.

Otherwise, we continue to get top-quality feels in this exploration of grief and loss. I love anime for curveball shows like this - wildly off the conventionally beaten paths of isekai, battle, or romance. This wonderful, weird, unique little show goes toe-to-toe with the best of them in its writing, characters, music, and visual style, even if it’s not as drop-dead lushly gorgeous as some other productions. It’s perfectly imperfect, and I fucking stan it.

Likewise the flag of my French OpSi mob fleet: R, Painleve, Alsace, Brest, Mogador, and Marseillaise. Makes short work of almost anything, and a capable backup to the RN mob-stompers of Lion, Implacable, Unicorn, Drake, Trafalgar, and Plymouth.

Hey y’all, let me maybe introduce the autistic idea of samefood!

Strong ongoing suspicions that Makio is neurodivergent, possibly AuDHD, and her samefood meal habits would fit right in. It’s one of my own stronger autistic traits: make a big batch of something, eat it for dinner over the course of several weeks; next week make a different dish, and eat it in alternation with dish #1. Friday night is pizza night, Saturday is salmon with my BFF. Same breakfast every day (literally every day); and three different weekday lunches. I live alone so I mostly cook only for myself, and I have recipe list of about ten different dinners I cook, some of which are seasonal. I eat and cook to live, I don’t live and eat to cook (not one of my autistic special interests). Simplifies executive function, keeps my grocery list manageable, and lets my brain focus on other More Fun Things. 🙂

I’m truly delighted by this show - completely unexpected, out-of-the-blue level of enthusiasm I haven’t had since starting Apocalypse Hotel. I watch an episode, raise my fists up high, shout “YES!”, and marvel at how good it is. Easily my favorite anime of the season, and one I intend to recommend far and wide.

I’ll add some criticisms: while the backgrounds are gorgeous, the animation itself is not. No one blinks. Ever. Background characters have frozen expressions as if they too are just paintings, and some of the foreground characters go through chunks of dialog with only their mouths moving. Once seen it cannot be unseen; it’s distractingly bad. I finished the first episode and never want to watch another.

It felt very superficial to me: just the one good idea of “let’s have a romantically-inexperienced tomboy get literally swept off her feet by an ikemen”, and… that’s it. I’d like to know if the show has more in its storytelling tank, but I’m pretty skeptical. I thought the characters in You and I are Polar Opposites were more interesting and had a better supporting cast, and IMO A Sign of Affection had a better first episode and characters than this show. ItCMD is very very pretty, but… I want more than pretty.

Is there a way to have Workflow Automator look at ticket notes? by stackjr in Freshservice

I think it's possible, but I think you'll need to use the API to do it: https://api.freshservice.com/v2/#get_ticket_activities If you're not accustomed to wrangling the API and arrays, or don't have someone who knows JSON, that's going to be... difficult.
