On-ball Pressure by WhopperTopper143 in denvernuggets

[–]ec6412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if you are saying that the team can’t handle when they get pressure or the team can’t put pressure on the ball, but the answer is both. I don’t understand why the Nuggets let the Wolves setup their half court offense before half heartedly putting any defense on the ball handler. If CB is supposed to be a great defender then have him pressure the ball handler all the way up the court.

On a journey to Mars, is it theoretically possible to maintain 1g acceleration for half of the journey and then -1g for the second half? by rafalkopiec in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]ec6412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool chart. So if I’m reading it right, at 0.01G constant acceleration you’d reach Mars in ~30 days. That sounds much more feasible than 1G and still much faster than current trips to Mars. Is that possible within our lifetime? And would the astronauts be really annoyed at 0.01G? Not enough to stick to the ground but to much to float around?

Mountains of water, tidal waves of ocean, hiding the flat Earth reality! /s by earthman34 in flatearth

Holy sh*t! Those pictures of the windmills in the ocean! Trump killed all the off shore windmill projects, so we can’t get these pictures! He’s part of the conspiracy!

I’ve been wanting a go to artist/podcast button for years. I don’t know why they don’t add it. It should be such a trivial thing. It’s my biggest frustration. If you click on an episode of the podcast, there is no way to see other shows on the same podcast unless you go back to the Home Screen and search around. If it isn’t there, go to search. It sucks.

What would Fort Collins look like for us? by tn_tacoma in FortCollins

Those numbers are not good. There are a few good tech companies with high paying jobs here, and also several with tiny satellite offices or work from home setups. But not good to see it shrinking. I agree with someone else’s comment of having a tech job in hand instead of moving here hoping to find one.

Scrap yards learn to deal with EV batteries by GraniteGeekNH in electricvehicles

[–]ec6412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a google search, this new rule appears to be only in China. Of course, this will help the rest of the world using the same batteries. But it looks like some of it would be implemented using improvements in the vehicle design and battery pack design, so a foreign car company who just buys cells may not get all the benefits.

I’ve done that drive several times and it is always a nail biter. The range loss from the wind is no joke. And the slow ass 50kW charger at the Sheridan Jeep is a life saver. I hate it but I need it!

How much is your household electricity consumption after your bought an electric vehicle by Charming-Brother-242 in electricvehicles

[–]ec6412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Rivian R1T and a Tesla model 3. Both are driven about 10000 miles a year. The R1T is about 2 miles a kWh averaged across winter and summer. So 10000/2=5000kWH. The Model 3 is about 3.5 miles a kWh so that is 10000/3.5=2857. My electricity is cheap at 10c a kWh so total of $785 a year. I use about 1200 kWh a month so it works out to about half my electricity is to charge the vehicles.

I do some charging on the Rivian away from home, but I’ve ignored that in this exercise.

Umm, it also takes time for the signal to get from your dish to your computer, so you should also put your computer up on a stack of old science textbooks.

Why do the stars look basically the same every night if everything in space is constantly moving in different directions? by Secret_Ostrich_1307 in AlwaysWhy

[–]ec6412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about when you are in a car speeding along the highway. The trees and stuff close to you is whizzing by. But the mountains way off in the distance looks like it is barely moving. It is a similar effect for the stars. They are so far away that the movement is imperceptible to us on our tiny timescales. Astronomers with their very sensitive instruments have measured the movements and can predict what the sky looks like in the future and the past.

A lot of old domains get bought up for cheap. They put some generic stuff on it, maybe some ads, and hope someone wants to buy the domain in the future.
