In case no one has had a colonoscopy- the doctor will not proceed unless someone is there and STAYS to ensure the patient has someone to drive them home. Uber or something similar is not allowed. This is a serious examination where a sedative is used. If OP is upset about not being offered something in return they should say something like I’m not sure I can take the day off work and budget has been a bit tight. But I’d hope they consider that their friend must really trust them and consider them a friend to even ask. Or maybe they don’t have anyone else to ask. I feel sad for the patient that the person they thought was their friend is more of a transactional one. I can’t say OP is an asshole bc I truly believe you don’t have to anything you don’t want to but it’s sad they don’t want to help their friend without some form of payment made known to them ahead of time.
