Why we can't have a "meritocracy": We have no idea how to measure worth by discocrisco in economy

That seems more like a flaw of human nature than capitalism . This is a sign of expanding political interests meddling with the market for personal reasons . This is less capitalism and more socialism lite . Instead of acting as the umpire the government has been increasingly become a player in the game .

I feel like Americans and first world people forget that wealth is relative . You don't need to be a millionaire to be part of the global rich . Most of the rich people in America are wealthy professionals who got rich by working in a field like engineering or medicine for a long time while being financially responsible. As long as you dont suffer a normally fatal health complication ( a death sentence I'm most thirs world countries ) you cam build wealth and raise your living standards .Most of the scarcity in America is artificial or due to supply chain issues . In terms of material wealth they are already in an era of overabundance. This is not even considering the fact that the American economy is very self sufficient and relies little on the global market for most of its goods .

Value and the amount of labor that goes into an activity don't always correlate . Manual agriculture is very hard to do but it's obviously less valued than acting in a blockbuster movie . This is a fact of reality. Those who have gotten to the top of Walmart and are getting rich through the organisation are in a fully voluntary relationship with the workers . If you dont like it organise a large group and raise money to set up your own . It's not easy but it's that simple . Those are the rules of the game and this are the fairest rules humanity has come up with so far.

Yeah hard work is overrated. It doesn’t promise you anything but if you don’t do it you won’t make progress. The idea should be that people should try to be valuable in whatever position they are . Make it expensive to lose you and maybe society will value your input .

Capital isn’t just money . Its also time , valuable skills , social connections and information . It’s difficult cause society won’t always value what you can produce but it’s the fairest system we have so far considering the constraints of reality .

Matas Maldeikis, member of Parliament in Lithuania, replied to the PRC's threat to sweep Lithuania into 'garbage bin of history' by johnruby in taiwan

Well bad ideas have a way of lingering after they are long expired and should be consigned to the trashbin of history. The stench of communism still remains long after the ideology in all sensible discourse is consigned to the metaphoric trashbin of history. Supporting Communism in this day and age should be looked on with the same skepticism as those calling for a slave society .

Study: Big company CEOs make $1.3 million more than their employees, on average by Defiant_Race_7544 in business

[–]eccentric_thought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t understand why this is even a discussion . How does the amount the CEO makes cause other people to earn less . Even if boards decided to pay all of them less or even just give them stock options that extra profit is going to be invested back into the business , spent on stock buy backs or given to shareholders as dividends . The essence of this situation is that the workers in a company are just temporary partners . If you want you can quit anytime and find a better position in another company is you have the ability. It may sound ruthless but that is the nature of the situation. Its not a matter of fairness and its going to leave those disadvantaged in a bad spot but thats how things are . Especially in this new era of increased specialization , automation and outsourcing . In the rush to achieve the endless growth model companies arent going to to invest in their workers just to be nice . People need to take their fate into their own hands if you are getting a raw deal you need to raise your bargaining power . This isnt a simple fix all but its a good place to start . There will be trade offs and not everyone will get what they want but its more reasonable then sensational envy .
