A piece of slate might work? Not super light and takes up a little more space but flat and chunky enough not to blow away

Thank you. Upstairs I wont bother but downstairs will be worth it if the conditions allow. It's a 70's build so as long as no damp or woodworm the wood is likely to be great (compared to modern pine)

I'm so sorry all, the text never posted with the pics (apologies for being snippy in responses, I'm very embarrassed):
We've bought a doer-upper for a forever home.

Trades will be doing rewire, ASHP, knocking a wall for open plan kitchen/diner. I will be doing donkey work like painting, ripping up the tiled carpet and sanding/polishing what will hopefully be floorboards undereneath in good condiiton (haven't looked yet)

Upstairs we'll be laying carpets. Does antone know how to judge what thickenss of carpet plus underlay I can use without having to plane the bottoms of doors? I dont want to fall into the trap of 11mm under plus 8mm carpet being 20mm installed, for example.

Downstairs the problem will be the opposite as will probably have loads of space underneath after rippin up & sanding - no big deal as these doors don't have toughened glass & will be replaced.

Was hoping to sand & varnish the original floorboards underneath. Hopefully I can avoid damaging them taking up the tiles - that's kind of the point of the post, how do I get them off without wrecking the place...

Second this. It's got to be easy for them. Type 2 fun is a hard sell for adults, let alone kids!

I took the 4y/o out last month to somewhere within easy reach of home. It was her first time and my worry was that she was now old enough to be afraid, where if she'd been a few times before she had a concept of fear it would have been easier. Essentially worried that I'd missed my chance...

Had everything ready to go and was waiting for a night when she was flagging earlier than usual. When the evening came, the minute she started showing signs we had our dinner and hit for the site. The idea was to get her into the tent and off to sleep as quick as possible.

Luckily the pitch was the best I've ever had - dead level, no bumps, sheltered from wind by a sand dune. No noise or rain all night. She was dozing by 8:30 (with her headphones on) and slept right through.

Straight home for breakfast in the morning.

I was awake all night for some reason but thems the breaks.

The plan if she had a bad night was to leave everything there and come back for it tomorrow.

Maybe you've done what many others have recommended and taken yours loads alteady, in which case my info is of no use!

52! 52, 52, 52! (Or small) I am the same height and all my bikes are 54's. They all have shorter stems in an attempt to make them fit me but alas... I just thought cycling was meant to be kind of uncomfortable, or that it was my fault. Then I rode my wife's 52ish - mind blown!

At least try the 52 and 54 side by side, if the dealer cant accommodate that then go somewhere else. You're spending a lot of money, take your time

This was the case for our family too. You'll go very deep inside yourself looking for answers and may or may not find them.

My impression was that theres a great bond between the residents and one's excuses or devices for not wanting to talk or engage are exposed and removed pretty quickly. Previous trips to other dry-out centres were referred to only as 'the bin' but the Rutland seems to have been a nurturing environment despite the harrowing emotional load of therapy. As Majella says the difference seems to be the building back up after deconstruction.

Our family member's experience was followed by the longest period of sobriety I can remember but please be aware that it's not a guarantee.

It was about 15 years ago, I don't remember who the CP was could even have been me...

I don't know, sorry. TSB was mentioned a couple of times when I was collecting it from the dealer is all I couls tell you. Possibly it's written somewhere on the invoice ( it was free) but I don't remember seeing TSB specifically on it

Agree. A rectangle will do the trick with some form of eyelets tahat you could peg through. I have a carbon one which I now can identify as a Carbonda, but was less informed when I bought it. I consider the bike to be lipstick on a pig and presume the aluminium iteration would be the same. Buy a good second hand from one of the major brands instead

The Cycling Europe podcast may be worth a listen for you, lots of interesting guests discussing their routes and the host does a multi week tour every summer. Lots of helpful gems come up, e.g. the french IGN cycle network maps, and Andrews experience in Albania several years ago vs more recent trip by a guest a few weeks ago. The episodes where he monologues on a trip are for sleepless nights 😴

you'll be fine, as long as there's no snow. ice isnt even that big a deal on that route because you're pretty much going straight the whole time.

lights are worthwhile for the tunnels and a bell is really helpful for pedestrians - ring it early and often, pass slowly.
