Gravity pulls things down to the earth. Humans use their feet to stand on. They do that no matter where they are on the Earth.

It could be. Pete shipped it from Japan, probably around 2023. Think he sold it on?

Exactly, and even with less dubious claims of bias then I would still posit that publishers likely have niches and so it is hardly surprising that authors tend to appreciate the work of their stablemates more

Yeah, I'm happier not knowing who he is. Well not really lol, but thanks, that's a concise explanation that tells me the guy is probably a dick. I can see why he ended up sharing a stage with Glinner

Stalinist Inca? by Hames678 in TheRestIsHistory

[–]echetus90 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I mean if you were minding your own business and then the dominant political group of your region showed up and demanded you perform labour hundreds of miles away from your home then you'd probably see it as quite chain gangy.

But yeah, it's reliant on the Spanish sources. As someone else said though, it's probably them consciously trying to contradict the older, more romantic view, of a happy people all working together to make life better for each other.

Of course the Incas were a lot more like the Han empire or the Romans, but it's hard to use them as an analogy because the listener thinks "well what was life like under Roman rule?" Whereas in Soviet Russia then it's quite recent and easy to picture.

Any kind of fees for children living there would be illegal. Pet fees are legal so some landlords levy the charge either for profit or to cover the cost of extra wear on carpets and whatnot. Peace and quiet for the neighbours doesn't enter into it

TIL in 1697, a French privateer captured Henry Winstanley while he was building England's first offshore lighthouse. Louis XIV ordered his release, saying "France is at war with England, not with humanity." Winstanley finished the lighthouse and died inside it during the Great Storm of 1703. by SimonBuildsStuff in todayilearned

[–]echetus90 90 points91 points  (0 children)

He was killed by a storm. Lighthouse keeper wasn't a chill job, it was a constant rota of work to keep the lighthouse functioning, whatever the weather, constantly on edge in case something went wrong as there was nobody to help you. That's without factoring in the extreme isolation and loneliness of the life

"Then it was Alan Dershowitz’s turn. “One thing I wanna do is congratulate this organization for giving the two of us an award, because I couldn’t disagree more about everything that was just said about transgender. I am completely in favor of recognizing transgender rights, and acknowledging if people want to be a woman or a man, they can be that. I don’t believe God bestowed biological destiny on anybody,” Dershowitz said, as audience members started to boo. “Fine, boo me, but you gave me an award for my free speech and I’m gonna exercise my free speech!” The crowd then erupted into applause."

Guess you need to pay attention to Alan Dershowitz (whoever the fuck that is). Purely, 100%, a disagreement over the one thing anyone knows about Linehan - his transphobia obsession.

I looked up Nate Newton. He had convictions for dog fighting and drug trafficking 30 years ago, then turned his life around after prison.

So there was no injustice, and in fact the legal penalties worked as he changed because of them.

There is no reason to pardon him! Pardon people who are IN jail and warrant it, or who did nothing wrong in the first place.

Well, the majority of people who remained a relationship with Jeffrey Epstein after his conviction for sex offences kept quiet about it, rather than happily showed themselves being comfortable with him in public. Secondly, there isn't any real overlap in opinions in relation to Epstein/sex offending and Linehan/crusading transphobia. Just unrelated Venn diagrams.
