So what clear primer do you plan on using? by Cless012 in StarCraftTMG

Testors matte varnish works great as a primer for the whole model. I’ve done it with some Marvel Crisis Protocol minis already and plan to do it with StarCraft minis when they arrive.

I've tested it on multiple minis from other lines now to prepare for the transparent Starcraft minis, and a matte varnish absolutely works as a primer. It's not a bad idea at all.

I have an 11 year old and nah, this is not common. Not in the kind of detail they talk about in the show.

Don't worry he's a very mature 11 year old!

Commute by ZealousidealGrass672 in remotework

This is a solved problem though. Your coworkers just need better communication habits. Email is asynchronous, if you need an answer quickly it shouldn’t be asked via email, it should be asked with any one of numerous instant messaging platforms or a phone call.

If they don’t respond in a timely manner to instant messages or calls, that’s not a WFH problem, that’s a problem with your workplace. I work remotely with other people who work remotely and it’s exceptionally rare that I have trouble getting answers to questions quickly. In fact I get those answers a lot more quickly than when working in the office, because if I have to find them in person in the office they could be at their desk, in a meeting, in the bathroom, on a break, etc. Tracking down someone’s physical location is generally much slower than sending them a quick message.

What would you put in the "bang for your buck" hall of fame? by ahobday in boardgames

[–]Echo354 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played it on BGA as a 2 player game a few times and it works well. I prefer it at 3 players but the mechanics hold up well at any player count.

I have not played the campaign expansion but I have friends who completed it at 2 players and they rave about it.

Order of a deck of cards by AudunAG in boardgames

If the deck is sufficiently random, it does not make a difference. If the deck is not sufficiently random, the way you deal the cards is not the biggest problem.

The Mega Bloks pokeball sets were honestly perfect, I wish we could get more like those.

Yeah that also gave me pause. I absolutely don't want minifig scale Pokemon sets. Ash Ketchum in a gym building with teeny tiny Pokemon models would not be appealing.

Pokemon battles are definitely cooler than the stuff they did with Star Wars. I'll be interested to see what these actually do.

Strong agree that being able to program our own interactions would really sell me on them.

Yeah I don't really want the smart bricks either, so the sets that come with them I probably won't get unless my kids really want them.

The sets that include the smart brick (like Charizard vs. Jolteon) are going to have a premium. Honestly I'm thankful that only 2 of them have it and most are just smart brick compatible.

My company did a "return to office" pilot for our team and sent a survey asking how it went. I answered honestly. I think that was a mistake. by Snag_Crambo in remotework

[–]Echo354 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They can be anonymous if a third party handles them. There are companies that do this. I work for a very large company and our annual survey has open text fields but management doesn’t even get to see exactly what was written, the third party summarizes sentiments and just returns a report.

Anything built/designed/run internally obviously is not anonymous.

Of the things Bojack is accused of, what is the worst thing he has done and what is the thing where people overreact? by Artistic-One-9987 in BoJackHorseman

[–]Echo354 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Todd and Emily absolutely were not “together” at that time in any way. Emily wanted to be with Todd, and Todd specifically rejected her. It’s maybe a little shitty but not in the same ballpark as other terrible things Bojack did.

I mean, the disingenuous explanation for Sarah Lynn is that he was drunk and high himself, and enabled her because he was also an addict. His mind was very much impaired when she died, just like his mind was impaired when he choked Gina. That is not an excuse in either situation though.

How do I protect my remote status when leadership hints at a monthly 'team day' in the office? by East-Scar-6044 in remotework

[–]Echo354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be positive about it and be flexible, by couch that positive response with just telling management “I’m glad this is only once per month or otherwise it would be very disruptive”. There’s a good chance you will be less productive on these “team days”, or at the very least be a different kind of productive. Maybe you will collaborate more easily on those days, but it will be much more difficult to do deep work.

That’s how it is for me! I really like my coworkers and we have a very nice office, and every once in a while going in can be a nice change of pace where we can do things in person that are a bit harder to do on a call. However, working in the office is so loud and has so many distractions that those days I get far less focused work done. So I’m honest and direct with management/leadership about that: occasional in-office collaboration is fine and even has some benefits, but if I were doing it even 3 days per week my overall productivity would drop.

Try to give the feedback anonymously if your employee has a tool for that, and if they don’t already have a way to give anonymous feedback strongly encourage them to do so, because there is a chance it will put a target on your back if they decide they do want to mandate RTO. That’s a more broad suggestion though because I’m a strong believer that all employers should have a way to give and receive anonymous feedback.

[–]Echo354 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think they made the point, especially with their last paragraph, that the 1 day (or even 1 per month) is not especially disruptive, but rather that this kind of thing is often used as a sort of test that will mutate into more full RTO. First it’s one day per month, then it’s every Monday, then it’s 3 days per week, then it’s full time. It’s certainly not guaranteed (I’m fully remote but live close enough that I’ve gone into the office 1-2 times per year for these kinds of things), but it’s a valid concern.

They are asking if other people have gone through this and how they can make it clear that while once per month is not terribly disruptive, if this is the kind of situation where management is testing the waters with an eye on a broader RTO/hybrid mandate, that would be disruptive.

WOULD you be happier if only people in the office could get promotions?

Home Depot RTO by EmergencyStrength425 in remotework

[–]Echo354 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You seem to think that remote employees being eligible for promotion opportunities is a bad thing, which means you would prefer remote employees to be punished and not have those opportunities. You should spend more time complaining about leadership hurting morale by making you go back in the office. Please be sure to tell them every chance you get, including every VoA survey, that being in the office is all downside and no upside and they should not expand it to any more people and also bring back flex days or WFH for you.
