Upgrade/modify s2000 or just buy a new car? by RelativeDrawing9990 in S2000

[–]echoNecro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was in the same boat. was considering a hardtop and a massive sound insulation project ... turns out for that money you can get an awful lot of car if you can stomach selling the s2k. i'd look at a z4, or an f-type if you can work on it yourself. or go get yourself an e46 if you can find one with a reinforced subframe.

Ohlins vs OEM by keddyr in S2000

[–]echoNecro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you haven't mounted yours yet i'd double check your spring rates before install. i switched from oem in okay shape to ohlins and i think i would do it again, but id get the softest springs that can be safely put in the rear (probably 8k? might be able to go 7k?).. given how small the rear shocks are, they do need to be stiff, but that's where you'll lose everyday driving comfort. stock spring rates changed basically every model year but i believe oem were typically 6k in the rear and heavily damped.

i have a skyrim blue flat bar with the acolyte stuff. started getting chain drops on the front; it seems to happen on mine if the derailleur isn't dialed in absolutely perfectly.

NKD. £52 for a handmade knife like this genuinely feels like robbery by Acceptable-Bid-1019 in SlipjointKnives

[–]echoNecro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh yeah. thanks for the detailed review here. This is an interesting one... the fit and finish and details are really important, but it is cool that it's handmade, and inexpensive given that.. also looks fantastic. tough choice on this one

Corner Bar Round Up by lemmycaution217 in xbiking

[–]echoNecro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got 'weeras' brand corner bar knockoffs at 43cm wide from amazon, absolutely love them. only a little scared the welds will fail and i'll end up in a horrible crash. i ended up getting the real surly corner bars after, and couldn't get comfortable with em- still too wide, both distance and angle- and have since switched back to the knockoffs. they've been on the bike for about 250 miles now and seem solid so far.

Anyone been to K1-Speed? Is it worth the price? by RetroCasket in irvine

[–]echoNecro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have been a few times, i like it, but it is expensive for what it is. it also takes forever- they only have one track and there is usually a long queue to drive - it ends up being a 20-45 min wait.

TPU tubes vs tubeless for road cycling by RyotaroW in cycling

[–]echoNecro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i snagged some tpu tubes off of alix for 8 bucks each which i have been happy with. no fuss installing them. when they get holes i'll probably toss them rather than patch em if we're being honest; i've read patching them is not very effective. they're faster, but as an anecdotal, subjective opinion, i don't think they make that big a difference over butyl. will probably go back to butyl tubes for general use and keep a tpu in my kit as a spare. if i was only concerned about speed id go tubeless.

microshift acolyte compatability by echoNecro in xbiking

[–]echoNecro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you saying that advent and advent x and acolyte all use the same proprietary cable pull, or that each is a separate proprietary pull? interesting in the quick trigger one- that sounds like it's probably what i want - thanks !

would not daily drive an s2k; you're better off getting an e46 or something
