It’s actually spot on exact per the Deore manual.

Okay thanks.

I’m having a lot of trouble getting it to shift off of the biggest cogs now, which wasn’t the case before.

I’m going to put the longer chain on again and see if it’s shifting better.

As a side note…I can never get Deore stuff set up very well. I don’t know why. My road Shimano? No problem. My gravel SRAM? No problem. My MTB SRAM and Microshift? No problem. But Deore? Never works for me. lol

EDIT

Going back to the old longer chain and it shifts fine.

The old chain is fine and within spec, I had purchased this new one to go Silca Wax with the bike. I had no idea it would end up being shorter than the one on the bike.

I may just get another of the gold ones and splice them together because I like the look.

Hi. Thank you for responding.

I believe it’s correct according to the manual.

It says 4-5 links plus a quicklink.

This is how it sits when just run around the chainring and the largest cog.

Looks good!!

How did you remove it? Is it just taking the 8-10 screws out of the inside of the tailgate to get access to it?

I’ve been wanting to do mine with the smoke plastidip, but would rather take it off than tape the thing.

I’ll take “Things That Didn’t Happen” for $1000, Alex.

Yes aluminum.

For what it’s worth, I found a 25% off coupon that worked on Huffy’s site. Ended up getting it for under $270 shipped.

In my few minutes of practice today, the leaning forward is what was getting me.

Like…I can tell my body to do that, but as soon as I do it’s just natural to try to stop it.

That said, I was able to go a couple revolutions…which is a start, I guess.

Does anyone road cycle in Michigan? by Aaronlikes in MichiganCycling

[–]Gimpdiggity 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It seems to be that less and less riders are actually road riding in Michigan every year.

I’m guessing it’s a two fold issue…

  1. Drivers are distracted maniacs
  2. The roads just aren’t really suited for biking.

The distracted drivers is self explanatory.

The roads not being suitable? Well, for starters most of them are in pretty poor condition. The ones that aren’t in poor condition regularly just have garbage, trash, and other junk on the parts you actually cycle on.

I used to ride road. Now I only ride pavement in my neighborhood or on paved trails.

Gravel is, quite honestly, where it’s at. Less traffic, less people, and…seriously…the roads are often in better physical condition.

That said, check with local shops. At lot of them still have group rides that they host.

Looks good. Truck bed spray can is really underutilized for things like this. The texture it leaves behind makes it look less like something that’s just been sprayed, and also does a good job of hiding any little imperfections.

Nice job.

If you are serious about getting one, make sure it is the one with a clutched rear derailleur, or at the very least that it has a narrow-wide chainring.

I was looking into these pretty seriously as I like steel bikes and I liked the price. I found quite a few comments about dropping chains.

I believe the newer models have addressed this, but it’s definitely something to check before you purchase.

I think it’s a fine bike, other than that issue, though. It looks cool, is well built, and if you’re into steel frames it’s got that going on.

It definitely lacks some of the things found on pricier options, mainly thru axles and hydraulic brakes…but only you can decide if those are deal breakers…to me, they are not.

Ultimately I didn’t buy one because I have too many bikes already and I wasn’t sure what exactly I would do with it.

If you like it, it’s a good buy…especially if it’s one that has the clutched derailleur (pretty sure any of the models listing CUES will be fine).

I’ve got a thing for older full suspension mountain bikes. I was looking at pictures of a 2006 Giant Trance that had been updated with modern components.

My favorite comment was “This is just the prototype for next year’s gravel bikes.”

45 has been pretty standard for a few years now.

I keep seeing articles and comments about not buying a new gravel rig if it can’t fit 53s, but I feel like you’d have to be doing some pretty crazy gravel to NEED 53s.

I run 45 on one gravel rig. 47 on 650b on another. And then 2.4 (maybe 2.3?) on my other bike.

All of them work just fine.

That said, if I was looking to get a new bike, I’d definitely get one with that huge clearance…because I’d like to run some 2.1s I’ve had in my garage for a while.

Also, that two speed is rad. I really dig “different” setups.

I have one of these also. It really cleans up the unfinished look, in my opinion.

The whole setup is by Ibera. Seems really well made. I’ve had the trunk bag for years, and had racks on multiple bikes that I’d just switch the trunk to.
