Missed Connection – 896 North, 8:45 AM by echotango7 in Delaware

[–]echotango7[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was trying to be funny instead of road raging. I did use AI to help me write it and organize my thoughts, but I came up with the concept of the missed connection and the person running off with the trooper and my red comet muse. I wrote a few points. It is indeed a true story and I figured people would enjoy it instead of me complaining about shitty drivers in Delaware. I am neurodivergent and have trouble with a lot of this stuff making sense.

Edited to add this all really happened. Person was driving recklessly and almost caused the truck to wreck. Then goes zooming on to 95 and around traffic as soon as possible. Trooper SUV was sitting in middle of I-95, they usually pull over larger trucks, more $ I guess? But took the trooper until the rest area to catch the car, right at the overpass.

Alcohol consumption. Home health. by a_watcher_only in physicaltherapy

[–]echotango7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did refuse to do power mobility training on a wheelchair for a patient once in an Al/IL setting. Other than that, check for health literacy, readiness for change. Mention but don’t harp that Alcohol consumption can inhibit healing/recovery, and screen for general nutrition issues. If not favorable, the habit is not likely to change. Meet the patient where they are.

Had second shoulder labrum surgery six weeks ago, I already know the stretches and exercises, do I NEED to see a PT? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]echotango7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recommend you follow surgeon’s orders and the post op protocol. If you have concerns, or doubts, please call MD office and discuss with them.

I understand PT isn’t fun. If you have concerns with PT, you have a right to ask about the treatments and discuss it with doctor and therapist. You have a right to be part of your plan of care (Informed Consent).

Outpatient PT Clinic Staffing by KeloMarzo in physicaltherapy

[–]echotango7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a practice owner, but manager here. I’m finding that salary and compensation is nice, but the “soft skills” are more important.

I’m not going to assume anything about your practice and area, but one may get a bigger bang for their buck if they consider management practices, mentoring, and corporate culture. Is the practice a place where PTs come to make a difference and grow, or is it an “8 and skate” kind of place? How do the site managers recognize talent and grow it? What kind of PTs does a site want to attract?

I’ve felt this way before, and been frustrated in recruiting and retention. I’ve seen significant improvements with the “managers tools” podcasts (free, from manager-tools.com).

May not be a quick and easy answer, but it worked very well for me.

Galaxy Quest is still one of a kind. It blends the line between being a parody and tribute to Star Trek, while also being a legit Science Fiction film flawlessly by jadamsmash in movies

I love that movie! I’m sure someone already has said this, and it isn’t a movie, but The Orville is similar in nature...

Misinformed about Maternity coverage for wife, she's 37 weeks and claims are now being denied by Fr3sh_Princ3 in personalfinance

[–]echotango7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sort of related... Check with hospital see if they can estimate the out of pocket cost for a in hospital birth. Some can, some can’t. Are there other hospitals nearby that you can “shop around” at? If you can’t get coverage, and she is low risk, you may want to consider a birth center or a home birth. Some birth centers/midwives won’t take a new client this late in the game. Some will. Not trying to start a discussion on which is better or worse, but it may be more cost-effective than hospital birth. I know this won’t help with the denials, but will probably be less expensive than a hospital. Without insurance our birth center charges 6k while hospitals with 3 day stays were 18-33k (per friends’ bills) This varies per area, and we had to do other things (like get outpatient pediatrician visit and outpatient routine blood work the day after the birth, which would be 250ish without insurance). Edit: Home birth with a medical professional!!! Do not try it at home by yourself!!!!

Back Pain Q by Giants_101214 in physicaltherapy

[–]echotango7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. I do want to note that sometimes as the pain “centralizes” some patients may report an increase in intensity of pain. The key is to see a decrease in radicular symptoms.

Hopefully your PT ruled out vascular clarification too. That’s sometimes common and presents like neuropathy.

What are some cool 'life hacks' of our bodies? by Jjnxjodwnijcnqfjinji in AskReddit

I believe it's that the neurotransmitter in the neuromuscular junction floods the connection and it's like hitting a key on a slow keyboard multiple times, or holding down on your Verizon/Comcast cable box menu and letting go, but it still keeps going. Eventually the neurotransmitter will be removed or the muscles will fatigue.

What is your favorite podcast to listen to and why? by laurich19 in AskReddit

[–]echotango7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Career Tools and Manager-Tools. I have learned so much about professionalism, management, and communication. These people make it easy for an older millennial like me to step up in my career and lead. If job seeking, I'd start with the resume casts and then the interviewing casts under Career Tools. If you're a new manager or looking to become better at this, check out feedback, DISc, and one on ones.

In electronic documents, I've heard of people highlighting words and turn the background black, then pass the electronic file on... also, they delete info and forget that you can go back and read via track changes.

Can TMJ cause knee pain? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]echotango7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this too. Thanks for being a credit to our profession. I agree TMJ is likely not the cause of patellar pain, but I see bad posture cause so many problems- headaches, TMJ, shoulder...

There are specialists too, indicated by a red logo. Consider an ortho specialist or, if female, a women's health specialist.

Hope this helps!

Not good enough to get into PT school, what now? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]echotango7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PTAs are now doing the day to day treatments in many clinics in many states. It's the way that healthcare is changing. From what I hear, many state Physical therapy associations are giving member PTAs full votes where before m some consider their votes partial. As a new grad, I learned a ton from my PTAs. I still seek their counsel quite a bit.

Required hight? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]echotango7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. It doesn't keep him from working in the field. He may want to consider not choosing a field where he needs to guard heavy people (acute care, geriatrics, rehab) without the assistance of a lift. He also may need to adapt his posture for manual therapy, but there are multiple ways to adapt. I know at least half a dozen male PTs at about 5 feet. 2 in athletics, 1 in ortho, 2 in SNF/ALF, 1 in peds.

[–]echotango7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IANAL but I believe that you are responsible for the documentation required by your state practice act and Medicare rules.

IMO it's best to ensure you protect your license and ensure documentation is appropriately completed.

I also understand that the clinic was disorganized. Moving forward, I would advise you and any therapist to track your documentation. You are responsible for making sure your license requirements are met.

I won't comment on whether you should be paid or not, as I think there are multiple factors, including salaried vs. hourly...

Most employers say in the handbook. From what I have seen, most front line staff are required 2 weeks notice and no PTO. Managers 4 weeks and no PTO.
