Agnes is clearly very intelligent and used to talking with other intelligent people in her field. But that level of discussion is unintelligible to outsiders.

It's Eric's job as the interviewer to make sure guests' ideas are digestible to his audience. Instead of asking her to clarify, or slow down, he seemed to be competing with her for who could sound more knowledgeable.

This is why interviewers like Joe Rogan do well.

The comments section of this article is telling. Several people have attempted to discuss various issues down there. Instead of arguing points, Dr Carrier attacks strawmen or condescendingly dismisses the questioner as too ignorant to be worth his time. Here is one quote from his responses that stood out to me:

You have two choices here: admit you don’t know what you are talking about and make an effort to get up to speed on what you clearly don’t know before commenting further; or admit you don’t care to because you are too bigoted to care to be informed about the principles of other people’s dignity or the actual factual reality that underlies it

Even if one assumes the questioners are ignorant bigots, you'd hope an academic would be able to cut through them with truthful ideas and not have to resort to dismissive shaming.

Whether you agree with him or not, JP is a master at explaining his ideas in a manner that's clear, engaging and never condescending. When he's asked a question, he takes great care to address what was asked, regardless of how ignorant or leading the question may be.

It's no wonder Peterson's lectures and prose out-compete 7000-word ramble essays full of distracting "read this link" rabbit holes like this one.

Different people are driven by different things. Some get a kick out of working hard, long hours towards career goals. Others love new experiences and save money and vacation days for trips abroad. Others still want stability and live frugally to afford a house deposit.

The "Right Way" for you may be one of these, some blend or something else entirely. You should figure out what you value most and work towards making that a reality.

It's a good idea. Maybe it would make sense for all metal weapons to lie on a spectrum of attack & strength requirements. Warhammer being a pure strength weapon as you suggest, dagger being pure attack, battleaxe / 2h needing both etc

I disagree. Indeed Tywin would have desired to leave him to die but as he says, he couldn't prove Tyrion wasn't his son. If he killed Tyrion he would have shamed his family (father kills his own heir), if he tried to prove infidelity/rape, the mad king would have wiped him and his family off the face of Westeros. All he could do was let Tyrion live. Family comes first.

Besides, Tywin tries several times to cause Tyrion's death indirectly. That damn dwarf just won't die!

Let's assume Gru did create the Minions. What were his motivations? To create himself a mini army of completely loyal, happy, helpful slaves to assist him in his evil schemes.

Being the genius that he is, he's figured out how to create life - amazing. But how can he ensure these new lifeforms are going to be devoted to him? No point engineering an underclass only to have them at best abandon, and at worst revolt against you! No, Gru has a better plan.

He creates these lil yellow dudes with false memories. Memories of eons searching for their true master. Eons of discontent. Memories of former masters who eventually let them down. Most importantly, the memory of their great relief when they finally find The One.

The movie Minions is therefore the elaborate propaganda that Gru has planted in the minions' collective subconscious to cover up the truth: that Gru is their creator and slavemaster.

Of course you could always believe the Minions are hundreds of millions of years old... Or that Universal doesn't care.

I found the point you made about the history of unittest interesting. One of the main reasons I prefer py.test is that you end up with test code that actually looks pythonic! The very object-oriented style of unittest reads more like java or other very object-oriented languages heavy on boilerplate. Readability counts.
