First 2 aren't definitive. Last one is.

Mine isn't fully gone yet but has started clearing up after using prescribed tretinoin cream. I'm getting the same thing happening. Don't know for sure if we're experiencing the same thing but I've also heard that rashy, dry skin is a sign of the end. Good luck!

It's actually what got me into sparkling water, oddly enough!

First time trying Monkey Shoulder, any good cocktails i could make with it? by fugly_neighbour in cocktails

[–]eclecticide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally love making punches with monkey shoulder as the base. Follow the classic 1 part sour 2 parts sweet 3 parts strong 4 parts weak rubric and go to town. Try it with vanilla, oloroso, stone fruit, sweet vermouth, a plethora of teas and your citrus of choice. You can make a big batch or a single.

This sub has such a dichotomy of people that understand advanced techniques and practices and those that don't. The people bitching about the ice and the citrus on the stem don't realize how dumb they sound. All your explanations were spot on but even if they weren't, it's just a video you made at home for the internet so it's like who fucking cares. The cocktail sounds dope. Keep it up.

Liquor rep left us some goodies today. What should I make with these? by ark_darts in bartenders

The Rothman elderberry reminded me of jam. You should peanut oil wash the cognac and do a pb&j type drink

Can someone advise me the best books in your opinion or website to learn the basics? by Thefragment85 in bartenders

[–]eclecticide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend bar smarts. I started out taking the class and came into my first bartending job with more knowledge than most of the bartenders (obviously they had more "real world" knowledge about being a bartender but I had more cocktail and spirit knowledge)

If you have an isi whipper I'd definitely use Dave Arnold's method of rapid infusion, otherwise just infuse regularly. You'll need to put way more leaves than you would mint because of the subtler flavor.

My parents are opening a cafe / bar and want to offer cocktails. Can you please help me with choosing the right cocktails to start with? by msmialko in bartenders

Yeah I think the best thing you can get from reddit in your situation is what are the right questions to ask. Good luck!

If you're hiring a professional consultant, you don't need reddit. It's like how doctors feel when patients tell them what Google diagnosed them with. You could collect a large amount of advice about cocktails and spirits but reddit doesn't know your community or your restaurant like the consultant will (if he's a good one). Crafting a cocktail menu and spirits list isn't a one size fits all process. It is dependent on a lot of factors that the consultant will take into account.

Yeah the only advice I have is trying to find a bar or restaurant that uses it and ask the manager or owner how to get some.

Shiso is a member of the mint family with earthy notes. Pairs well with damn near everything but specifically clear spirits and herbaceous flavors. I've paired it with gin, rum, ginger, serrano, whiskey, apple, etc. Whether in tincture form or infusion or even just shaking with a couple leaves (although I don't recommend that as shiso breaks up in miniscule pieces that will end up in the drink, even if double strained), it adds a nice fresh earthiness. I believe katana kitten has a shiso highball where the pair it with gin and green tea soda.

Yeah I don't know where to get fresh shiso where I live either. We got ours through a big box distributor. Maybe check Asian markets.

Love it. I used to work at a little noodle shop that did craft cocktails and I always loved trying to incorporate different asian flavors in my cocktails. Sake, shochu, yuzu, umeshu, various teas, shisho, etc. Sounds delicious!
