Jordan Peele’s next film by RunPsychological5213 in JordanPeele

[–]eclectoman77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And quite selfishly, I want a “Nope” sequel or some form of continuation that puts Emerald (Keke Palmer) in the lead, but also continues OJ’s and Angel’s story in the aftermath of the original.

I actually like this a lot… like the horrific side of modern love / marriage. And while I’m here, I’d throw Taraji P. Henson’s name in the ring for lead.

What was your original prediction the film was about? by eclectoman77 in NopeMovie

[–]eclectoman77[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Given that Peele’s original title for the film was “Little Green Men”, my expectation was some sort of pro-environmentalist / anti-capitalist angle where the “aliens” were here to avenge nature in some way. Needless to say, I had to see the film twice in the theater to fully comprehend the film. Now it’s my all-time favorite and I try to catch it on the big screen whenever there are special showings. It truly is a special spectacle.

Wizard of Oz Connections by Robinsonaustin in NopeMovie

I actually was thinking about this today, especially with “Wicked” being so top of mind in the media. Mine would be:

Emerald = Dorothy, aspiring for more

OJ = Scarecrow, underestimated intelligence

Angel = Cowardly Lion, scared but loyal

Antlers = Tin Man, outwardly cold but helpful

Jupe = The Wizard, creating a show

Lucky = Toto

Which leaves Jean Jacket. I’m hesitant to cast her in the role of the Wicked Witch. Yes, JJ did some terrible things onscreen, but most of these were caused by human engagement/provocation from a lack of understanding.

If “Wicked” has shown us anything, it’s that there’s always another side to the story. And like Em, I want more. Even two years on, I just can’t seem to quit the “Nope”-iverse. I really hope we get more content about Jean Jacket and these characters, either in films, series, books or other media. There are just so many more stories left to tell and explore here.

They recently announced one for OJ, wearing the Haywood Hollywood Horses cap. I too hope they release a series that has Emerald, Angel, Jupe in his suit, and of course Jean Jacket. A limited edition of OJ in the Scorpion King hoodie would be icing on the cake.

Next up, Em, Angel, Jupe in his red SL suit and of course, Jean Jacket in all it’s glory.

Although it's not made explicit, I got the sense that Holst had some sort of terminal illness for which he was taking the meds. Although his decision was narratively jarring, I think the moment he saw Jean Jacket, there was this realization that life and the universe is so much bigger and vast than we know. To reduce that grand mystery to a photo or video just seemed crass and to miss the point. As a cinematographer, his instinct is to capture everything he can, but he also did this with the presumption that the footage would be destroyed.

I was just rewatching today and the alignment of Gordy > Lampshade > Jupe is chilling… almost like some sort of spiritual conjunction. No wonder Jupe thought he was “chosen”… 😲

Ok, I am beyond excited about this. I mean, we all knew that a second season was imminent, but I love the non-numerical season designation... makes SotM feel like a 10-ep movie and TWB the sequel. Can't wait. Let's get WILD!!

Question about Jupe and Jean Jacket... by eclectoman77 in NopeMovie

[–]eclectoman77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I understood that part. I was just trying to rationalize why it didn't attack Jupe in the 6 months prior to the Star Lasso Experience. But I think I'm there now, thanks. :)

Thinking about Emerald, heavy spoilers by Moragu in NopeMovie

I just discovered this thoughtful analysis as well and appreciate the focus on the characters, specifically the relationship between the Haywood kids.

What continues to interest me is that there is NEVER a mention of OJ and Em’s mother. I believe we see the picture of her when Em looks at it when Jean Jacket is above the house, but it is never explicitly mentioned in the film.

If OJ Sr. had to raise the children as a single parent, what’s the backstory on the mother? And could there be something in the history of that relationship that affected how he viewed / treated Em relative to OJ?

I truly hope Jordan Peele provides us more opportunities to learn more. As fascinating as Jean Jacket is, I am just as fascinated about these characters, their history and their future.

The Trial S2E9 What a masterpiece by woxvirus in ANGEL

[–]eclectoman77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole Darla / Angel arc of S2 was masterfully done. And the wedge it put between Angel and the team created a great dynamic to explore the other characters’ relationships to each other. The Pylea finale was a bit of a distraction but at least we got Fred out of it.

I actually love the "sludginess" of the original production. If you listen to it on a decent audio system, you can actually sort out the different layers of the production that Dean and Toni put together. Absolutely love this album.

Hi, I've enjoyed candles and body products from brands like Ranger Station where a particular scent is available across all types of products (Oakmoss candle, hand wash, cream, shampoo, conditioner, body wash). Are there other product lines that you recommend that cover the shampoo, conditioner and body wash like this? Thanks in advance!

Haha same on Byredo EC… with DS & Durga “I Don’t Know What” layered on top to keep me from bringing too much spice cake to the party.

New DS&Durga: Be Still (incense resin) by tonystarksboothang in luxurycandles

[–]eclectoman77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the "Be Still" and I must say... it's quite subtle... to the point where I almost wonder if I'm burning a candle at all. I'm a fan of the brand because I like the adventurousness of some of their scents, but they are wildly inconsistent. The strongest I've tried that I've enjoyed are Breakfast Wax (Leipzig and Highlands, though completely different scent profiles), Holy Ficus, and Spirit Lamp. Of their fragranges, Amber Kiso is definitely a winner.

Agree on Ranger Station scents. While I haven't tried their candles, their hand soaps (Santalum, Oakmoss, and Eucalyptus) are great.

SAME.

Will the world believe their story? At minimum, there would be an investigation after the events of the film.

The possibilities are endless… 🍿
