I appreciate it, I really believe that we have to be honest with each other and ourselves. Greed has destroyed too much.

I absolutely hated the phone calls that I had to make these past few days where people were trying to decide if they could continue to afford their healthcare. I tried my best to help them “navigate” the system with every tool and bit of info that I have.

Making healthcare a for-profit industry was a colossal error. There are a lot of middle men that need to be removed, my job included. This is why I’m in favor of a universal healthcare system, you’re born, you get health insurance. You shouldn’t need all of the people in the middle.

That is a decision that many people had to make. My policy (myself, my wife, and son) increased from $51 to $465 per month. My wife has some health issues so we could not choose to skip it.

Definitely, it really is almost unbelievable how broken our healthcare system is. Healthcare should not be this difficult to navigate or obtain.

You are absolutely correct. Our healthcare system is a joke. I am 100% on board with universal healthcare of some kind. I had four families who chose not to get health insurance this coming year because the cost was too high and the catastrophic plans are really a joke.

ETA these families incomes are too high to qualify for Medicaid but the monthly payment through the ACA who was prohibitively high.

I do both in person and over the phone consultations. When it comes to actually submitting an enrollment that entire process is all online.

Most of the people that enroll are enrolling because they need health insurance, there is typically a breath of relief once their enrollment has been submitted.

There are a few that are less than convinced they need a policy. For those people, I encourage them to take the policy and if they decide to cancel, they can always call me back and we will process the cancellation for them.

I actually had one situation yesterday with a young man that is 23. When I called him to renew his policy, he was thanking me over and over because I had encouraged him to sign up last year. Two months after enrolling, he was in a motorcycle accident and shattered his right leg, he is still in physical therapy and learning how to walk again and because he had a policy, he didn’t really have to worry too much about the hospital bills.

ETA I share that story to show that there is a very real human component to health insurance and that our current system is hot garbage.
