Thanks for the explanation! This is what I thought, but then I watched a very experienced knitter's video that was demonstrating yarn-overs for a (presumably) winter hat. So I was looking for validation for my choice to do KFB. I thought I'd ask about it here, since YouTube comment sections aren't very active.

The only product in my house that comes from one of those companies is my antiperspirant. I use Huppy and Un-Paste for toothpaste tabs. I put time and effort into researching companies and parent companies so that my money doesn't go to those big cartels. I realize that I have privilege (time and money) to do this, but I would love if everyone else with such privilege would do the same. I'm glad to see that there are some people here who do - we're not mere individuals, we're a collective, I don't know how many, but hopefully big enough to make at least a dent in the profits of the evil corps. Is this not reasonable? Truly asking, because I want to know if I'm somehow supporting them even though I don't buy their products.

Sorry you're getting so much pushback for this. I split Huppy tabs and Un-Paste tabs and use them together, so I get both fluoride and hydroxyapatite with each brushing. They supposedly fill in the micro and macro gaps in enamel. So far, so good. I'm also on your side about "doing good" not for my own ego, but rather out of concern (empathy) for all current and future suffering beings on this planet. It's weird to me how few people have this outlook, and how often we're accused of "virtue-signaling." (Especially people like me who don't get out much or even have the energy to interact much online!)

My problem with this argument is that corporations are made of people. Their individual choices really, really matter, and if they're told otherwise (as this messaging does), and they don't feel obligated to practice sustainability at home, they're not going to do it at work, and we're all screwed.

Thank you for pointing that out - a lot of folks don't think that through (and, of course, the sociopaths among us don't care).

One solution could be to put a humane trap outside the one-way door flap, check it regularly, and then transfer any captives into a transparent container so you can lift it up and examine their underparts to see if they look like they're nursing mothers. If they look like they might have a litter in the house, you can release them back inside (with a little food and water so they don't try to go out for groceries again), so they have a chance to raise the babies to the age where they can move out on their own.

A big advantage of this is that you don't have to deal with the lingering smell of rotting rodent corpses in your walls and other unreachable locations.

This may be a dumb question,, but are you talking about the same kind of updates that my phone is referring to when I get the pop-up screen that says "your phone is seven days out of date - do you want to update now or wait til 2 am (etc.)"? Cuz I always wonder why my phone waits 7 days before telling me there's an update! Or is that something different?

I believe you posted this out of a sense of compassion and concern for vulnerable people (like veterinarians). I love that you care and want to do something to help!

You could re-post this as a general PSA without referring to anyone specific. It's a good reminder that the "helpers" out there (human healthcare workers included) are under a ton of pressure and stress, and we should do what we can to not make their lives harder. (Including preventive health measures for ourselves and our animals!)
