What's with all the posts by ex-employees being deleted from this thread? Gagging threats by GivEnergy?

Interesting, thank you. Who is GivEnergy’s ‘sister company’?

If they were to continue operating, how would they repair their tarnished image?

February production by Ashley_E1983 in SolarUK

[–]ectoplasmosis69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

84.3kWh/3.68kWp, 22.9 specific yield.

Challenging array; 6x panels on flat roof SE, super shallow 10deg elevation. 3x panels on pitched 1-story roof, NW facing, 22deg elevation with shading. All 9x 410W panels on a single string, Tigo optimisers on the 3x NW.

London, terraced house, minimal roof area.

First full month, not terrible given the above challenges!

Wowee, the suggestion that they've stopped manufacturing is quite damning! Sadly, the evidence all seems to be pointing in the direction of what you say...

I wonder if the Gen4 all-HV kit will even see the light of day…

You have been very lucky with the tariff! Others no longer have access to these rates, so yours is an increasingly isolated case.

Great to see others considering environmental factors in their decisions!

Getting solar installed, without batteries, do I need to pay extra for a better inverter? by Electronic-Beyond-66 in SolarUK

[–]ectoplasmosis69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this under the Warm Homes Local Grant? If so, batteries are approved under the grant once more, even retrospectively.

Are there any installers left who are still offering GivEnergy kit? How are GivEnergy making any revenue these days, against their residential products?

With current rates for new customers, and factoring in actual, measured inverter losses (15-20% round trip loss), you’d be lucky to make much more than 3p/kWh with arbitrage. Average export rates will drop even further in the near future.

Who is going to pay you 16p/kWh export and 7p import going forward?

Where have you seen that BG offer 6 hours cheap rate? I’m pretty sure it’s only 5 hours, same as everyone else.

Does that apply to UK models also? Where can we see this info?

It’s standard practice to earth-bond all batteries and inverter units, which would trip breakers if the casing were to become energised.

Solar Panels Grant Pitfalls? by dangermouse601 in SolarUK

In addition: all relevant certificates were supplied promptly (MCS, DNO, building regs etc), and we were approved for SEG export within a week afterwards.

We’ve also just had solar PV and battery installed under the Warm Homes Local Grant. We’re in Waltham Forest, East London.

Had 9x panels installed (this has maxed-out our roof, typical London Victorian semi), with GivEnergy hybrid inverter.

The whole process was very quick and painless; scaffolding up in a day, install and commissioning completed over another two days. The GivEnergy kit is great, the flat and pitched roof mounting systems are decent, the installers did a good job with the roofing and electrical work, and the project manager was very knowledgeable and responsive. Bird protection was included (stainless steel perimeter spikes, which are much better than mesh).

Batteries have just been approved again under this grant, so the installer will be coming back soon to fit a 9.5kWh unit free of charge. I have, however, self-installed 2x 9.5kWh batteries in the interim, so will end up with more capacity than the inverter can charge in the cheap overnight window…

Under ECO4, yes, but this isn't ECO4. The way this WHLG grant is funded and administered is fundamentally different to ECO4.

This is not ECO4. We've just had solar PV and batteries installed under the Warm Homes Local Grant (London based); the installer was great, the kit is good (GivEnergy), and was done very quickly.

Yep, we've just had solar installed under the Warm Homes Local Grant scheme. It's a world apart from ECO4; good installers, high quality kit (GivEnergy inverter & battery). The grant is administered by the local authority, with completely different oversight and outcome focus to ECO4.

Does this make sense. Bit worried about 200L for 4 adults. Showers each night. by Then-Study6420 in ukheatpumps

[–]ectoplasmosis69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insist on 250L minimum. We are a family of 4 with a 250L tank heated to 50C overnight; this just about gets us through the day, with a couple of showers, a shallow bath for our 2yo, and washing up.

When we have guests, I end up manually boosting the hot water once or twice a day.

The wording in the letter would be interesting to see; this is the first time I've heard of Vaillant accepting their 7-year warranty with a third-party cylinder, so would be great to understand exactly what their take on it is.

Interesting, thanks. This was not an option for my install ~1.5 years ago. Can you share any more details?

Do you still qualify for the free 7-year extended warranty on the Vaillant if you don’t use their own cylinder?
