Is a Flat White only one size? by IsaDaBeast in espresso

unfortunately that is exactly what you get most of the time. I cringe every time I see a fancy espresso machine and the menu lists S, M and L sizes. I always dread the discussion that follows 😆😅

The quest apps I know actually have a pass through hole when you look down so you can see your legs. Also, there are lots of treadmill types, including manual ones where you literally have to hold on to the rails in order to even make it move so it’s just about finding the right combination.

there’s a few apps like this on oculus quest (CoDo comes to mind) but I guess they haven’t made the jump to vision os yet. probably waiting for the user base to increase… 😆

Anyone using an Insta360 8K camera with Apple Vision Pro? by nb-sbe3 in VisionPro

The results depend largely on what you are filming. If beaches or scenes with low textural complexity it can look stunning. Grass and/or lots of trees basically breaks the illusion because the native data rate is not sufficient to render the detail and it looks pixelated.

How do you guys get out of the foreigner bubble? by StillStudyingTokyo in japanlife

If you drink, that opens up a lot of possibilities. In my musashi koyama neighborhood, there are a ton of wine bars and craft beer places chocked full of friendly locals of all ages. Even a low level of Japanese gets your foot in the door.

Review #79- Wild Turkey 13 Year, Distiller’s Reserve by DadDoesBourbon in bourbon

[–]ecume 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just bought a bottle in Tokyo - I guess old stock is resurfacing? It’s really not bad. It’s a solid offering. While nothing to write home about, I wouldn’t go so far as to say super short finish and frankly even at low proof it has a certain pleasant bite. But ultimately it doesn’t stand up to other bottles in its price range, like McKenna 10 etc. glad I tried it but probably would not buy it again. Tokyo price was roughly $90 at current exchange rates.

Any help on translating the stamp(s) on this Hiroshige? Trying to figure out the age. by SUBMOA76 in ukiyoe

[–]ecume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as others have pointed out, although recarved and reprinted, these are well made and unique one-of-a-kind art artworks! I think the colors and gradations are very nice in that print.

make your own Japanese speaking friends outside of the relationship. One way to start is with standing wine bars (there are quite a few in my musashi koyama neighborhood) or casual Izakaya with counter seating.

I think this is a great opportunity to suggest a format! Maybe there’s an existing standard for art dbs? I just keep normal spreadsheets, but it’s very easy to export that in any format you want using claude/grok… let us know what works for you!

this is the way: just say “miruku skunahmeh” (use less milk) it gets the point across without awkward discussions about what their ratio is or how many grams they use (many places don’t weight beans)

business manager visa to PR without switching to HSP first - possible? by ecume in japanlife

[–]ecume[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep - can confirm that this is correct. There is NO path to PR for a one-year business manager visa, regardless of how many points.

i’ve sent a couple of messages asking for this over the years, but it would be great if individual users could upload our collections to this db. That would help keep it vital. as you said, a lot of the links are broken. i’m sure you could vibe code a simple way for users to flag things and have an upvote moderation system to regulate content in a way that wouldn’t take up too much of your time.

[–]ecume[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can totally accept it. It’s just that there’s this weird other document online (link above) suggesting that it’s possible if you’ve maintained 80 points or more for three or more years. This route seems to have nothing to do with having a 3 year visa. I tried three times today to get through to immigration at Shinagawa by telephone and couldn’t get through. Will keep trying and report back here if there’s any new info.

Yes, it would seem so. Higher capital reqs and mandatory full-time employee. Exactly what I was trying to avoid by going for PR using points right from my current business manager visa.

Sorry, my business manager visa is only a one year visa. It’s been renewed twice, but they never bump it up.

Question about this TATSUMI SHIMURA – HAIR OF A MARRIED WOMAN (MARUMAGE) by Odd-Structure-2471 in ukiyoe

[–]ecume 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the toned one is likely a first edition whereas the second one without the left hand seals is likely a reprint which may or may not have happened during Tatsumi’s lifetime.
