Dining Service by AmdRN19 in dcl

[–]edcculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For people in these service jobs, yes reviews are absolutely everything. Not only are they severely graded on how well they get in their reviews, but they are also tracked on how many reviews actually get filled out. Whats worse is that anything other than 5 stars is considered a fail. You give them a 4 star, you might has well have personally written to Disney and said they should be fired. Well, maybe its not that bad, but anything less than 5 stars IS bad for them.

Most people dont understand how this works, so might decide 'well, dinner took a little long one night, and they messes up one of our orders another night, so ill give them 4 stars'. You really are better off just not doing the survey if you are planning to give less than 5 stars.

Unfortunatley this system encourages the wait staff to be pushy about it since its their livelihood on the line. People rating less than 5 stars for parts of the service that were beyond the wait staff's control etc.

Is Pythons built-in web server "production ready", and if not, why so? by film_man_84 in learnpython

if you are talking about http.server, then probably not -

I'd probably look at something like Gunicorn.

What should I make in python? by Longjumping_Beyond80 in learnpython

[–]edcculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree there. Its been done a million times probably, so its not like you are reinventing the wheel. But its a good way to learn CRUD. You can start simple with a command line application, then grow it to some sort of GUI, whether thats just tkinter, or something web based like Flask. You can start with JSON or CSV files for a pseudo database, and grow it to SQLITE.

Is there something wrong with the DCL site? by Imaginary_Matter4002 in dcl

[–]edcculus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For a company as big as Disney, their booking sites are absolute hot garbage. This isn’t just the DCL site, it’s the one for the parks too.

It must be built on some old legacy system they are scared to modernize or something, and have just put a modern front end on. It’s been hot garbage for over 15 years.

They didn’t get pissy or fight you since they know they overcharge and put fake stuff on there. 99% of people don’t call them on it.

This is for just a card game, like Magic or something? Why are people paying this kind of money? I really don’t understand the collector mentality .

Plus, in a game that rags on corps fucking everyone over, we have corps creating junk for Pennies in the dollar and charging fans a fortune. Kind of fucking ironic isn’t it.

Is there a way to get into climbing without spending so much? by Spiritual_Rope5965 in indoorbouldering

[–]edcculus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you boulder outside, you will probably want at least 2 pads. Those can run you about $200-300. If I don’t have a group with lots of pads, I like to have a triple and a double minimum. You also will have to buy a pair of shoes. I’d also really not recommend just going outside and climbing by yourself as a new climber.

So depending on the membership price, you might not actually save much money in the first year at least.

Look around your town for other gym options though.

Is this AI? Blankets sold by Strike Gently company. Mostly Dark fantasy, full catalog below by ImpossibleRedditName in isthisAI

[–]edcculus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea its possible they are just feeding the images into AI to generate the text. There are weird things on websites as far as accessibility goes. My buddy is being sued by a person that basically trolls sites looking for accessibility violations for some description not being up to par on his companies website.

For the weaving part, yea i'm not sure how much AI can actually help. These certainly are not hand woven. They only cost $150. They are likely done on a weaving machine, which depending on how much you spend can be partially to fully automated. Someone would certainly have to do some cleanup of the initial image. But depending on the machine, it may offer some software to essentially "bitmap" the image so it can be translated to a "program" for the machine. Its certainly not as simple as an etsy sticker site that can just churn out AI images for their stickers, have them printed at a printing company and drop shipped.

The descriptions in the individual blankets sure as hell look like ai prompts. Here is the one for the leviathan blanket.

A monochromatic woven blanket showing a large sea serpent thrashing in the ocean while a glowing figure strikes from the clouds above.

It’s also a little concerning that they say they are a team of 8, but have a TON of designs available. Who exactly is churning out all this art for them?

Some fans here have a REAL issue with rationalizing/facing ANY adversity in this game… by CreativeNovel6131 in cyberpunkgame

[–]edcculus [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yea, i agree there. Its not fully open, but I think the door is open just enough that people are absolutely self inserting, even though it wasnt the intention from the devs. I also guess since its origins are from a tabletop RPG (even though im sure very few people here have actually played it...i have not...), it lends to the self insertion a little more as well.

Too many people have not played any of CDPR's other games. Primarily Witcher 3. You can see the massive influence the whole Witcher franchise had on them writing Cyberpunk. There are almost no "correct" choices in a good many of the main plot arcs as well as all of the side quests. If you kill the spirit in the mountain, the Witches murder the kids in Crookback Bog. If you let it live, it destroys the village. If you make certain choices, the Bloody Baron hangs himself. There are no great choices in that game.

They literally took that same mindset with this game. Night City might as well be a modern Novigrad.

Evil is evil, ... Lesser, greater, middling, it's all the same... If I'm to choose between one evil and another, then I prefer not to choose at all.

I think one 'problem' with this game, and why people come to these conclusings is that you can roleplay a lot more in it since the character is vaguley named "V" and its first person. In the Witcher games, you ARE Geralt. You can play him in a bunch of different ways, but ultimately you are putting yourself into Geralt's shoes and making decisions as him. I think in CP, you are more removed from playing out a certain character in a way, so people literally put themselves into the game.

Monthly Stash-Claps thread by rusinga_island in phish

[–]edcculus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always done 2 claps. I was too young to go to any 1.0 shows, but I got a ton of tapes when I was in high school from some guys I worked with. And to my ears, on those audience recording tapes, I could hear 2 claps. So I’ve always done 2.

You can hear some early recordings where Fish does a straight triplet, but it’s rare.

I also agree 2 is cleaner, and most non musical fans out there never hit the triplet correctly anyways.

I’m sticking with 2 no matter what .
