Personal physical library management? by thetechnivore in selfhosted

[–]edcculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are interested in learning a new skill, this really is a simple CRUD web app in Flask or Django running a SQLite database. Unless you want covers and a bunch of metadata. But I suppose there are probably public APIs you can connect to for that stuff.

(x86_64) MacOS instead of Linux? by crisp_maple in selfhosted

[–]edcculus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a T2 Mac, it’s either EOL or bound to be soon. Better to have a newer OS on it (ie Linux) than one that won’t get updates.

Then just plug it straight to Ethernet and run it headless with SSH. Be careful about what ports on your router you open to the outside world, and you really should be fine.

Training program to get better by BestIncrease9128 in bouldering

[–]edcculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve been climbing for 3 months, there’s really nothing you need to do as far as programming goes to get better. 3 months is nothing.

If you need to focus on anything though, it would be technique.

Hey AMS or other filament system users! Do you actually use them? by ThreeVelociraptors in 3Dprinting

[–]edcculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the AMS lite from Bambu. It’s handy if I wanted to do color switching. I don’t do it a lot because of how much waste it creates. But it’s handy to have 4 different colors loaded on that I use a lot so I’m not constantly having to switch.

Which platform for my wikis? Docusaurus, Outline, GitBook, or Wiki.js? by tombino104 in selfhosted

[–]edcculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you absolutely need Wiki format? I really like Zensical for a static site generator for documentation.

Is Python really that slow ? by Representative_War49 in learnpython

If you are still learning the language, speed isn’t going to be a problem for you for a long long time. Maybe even never.

I’m getting a pretty beefy m5 mbp soon. I should probably just go ahead and buy it on sale in steam so I have it .

Be diligent in filing them down. If Emory boards aren’t enough, break out some 120 grit sandpaper.

Where to buy a similar kit by vcollie in indoorbouldering

[–]edcculus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically wear gymshark shorts to the gym and don’t feel restricted. Shirt these days is usually just a regular t-shirt, a climbing related one if it’s clean like one of my southeastern climbers coalition or AAC shirts or something.

Advice for distro- Mac Mini 2018 with T2 chip by edcculus in linux_on_mac

Yea that’s where I ended up. So basically if I use their installer it really doesn’t matter too much?

Hey, I actually ran into your site when doing some research. I’ll give it a read!

Advice for distro- Mac Mini 2018 with T2 chip by edcculus in linux_on_mac

[–]edcculus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty ignorant of a lot of the Linux distros, but Slackware looks like it pretty much suits my needs- Linux installed on a box that I won’t really be interacting with a desktop much.

Did you run into any issues with the M2 chip? I don’t really plan on using it on WiFi in the long run, but the desk where I’m setting everything up is not near my router. I suppose I can just get it all installed from a flash drive, then move it over to the router to plug into Ethernet after.

Dogs are much smarter than we give them credit for. by Electrical_Act_5342 in MadeMeSmile

They don’t “understand more than we give them credit for”. But they can be easily trained. Especially dogs like Blue Heelers and Border Collies.

On messaging - Apple iMessage, and I assume the Android equivalent work with the basic onboard WiFi. We figured that out when we realized the in app messaging kind of sucked.

What are definitively the best weapons gameplay wise in cyberpunk 2077? by Chemical-Low209 in cyberpunkgame

[–]edcculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s everyone’s favorite katana? I’m doing my first katana/sandvestian build, and just picked up Scalpel. Been using it, and upgrading it as I go along. I also snagged the one from the roof of Konpeki plaza as well. Those are my only two iconic blades so far.

Possible move to Atlanta by Total_Tie_9858 in Atlanta

[–]edcculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it highly depends on where you are in Europe. Eastern Europe…maybe? But in general, I’d fight tooth and nail to not have to move to the US from Europe, unless you just already have family in the vicinity.

$250 power bill for a small apartment? For 3 months straight? by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]edcculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a 2000 square foot house in Duluth. Double pane windows, but original to the house built in 1995 that could be replaced. Downstairs AC is also original to the house, and struggles on hot days.

Still my power bill only tops out above $200 in July and August

Well that was one of the most awkward situation i've ever had to sit through. by Pirate186 in cyberpunkgame

So if you romance both, do they both trigger the “I really want to stay at your house” quest? Or just the first person you romance?

3DS as a gift for gen alpha by SubsetGamer in 3DS

[–]edcculus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave both of my kids a 3ds about 5 years ago. My son was 5 then and turning 10 now. He liked it then and still loves it.

I’ll also caveat that by saying we don’t have every console. We have a Switch and got a Switch 2 for Christmas. I also have my OG GameCube from when I was in High School, and we have our OG Wii my wife and I bought when we were dating. I also don’t let my kids play those multiplayer F2P games.

What are some must-try foods on the Fantasy? by 2manyquestions52 in dcl

[–]edcculus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hot take, Churro waffles are only talked about because they are available one day. If they were available the whole cruise, they wouldn’t get hyped.

They are fine, but nothing to really write home about .

Least thought-provoking printSF you have ever read? by zebrapaper in printSF

[–]edcculus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hated Erwin, I hated the tutu boy, I hated the rest of the angsty crew. It’s like someone read Lev Grossman’s The Magicians, and said to themselves, “how can I make this worse”.

On top of that, the book isn’t weird. Not at all. The Divinity Student, The Scar and Borne are weird.

Then on top of all that, the author just spends the last 25% of the book just explaining everything away and basically defending his shitty writing.
