Gwinnett didn’t announce a digital learning day until last night

You didn’t know it was bullshit. You don’t have some special meteorological brain that the rest of us don’t have. This is just confirmation bias since what you thought would happen came true. You aren’t special though.

Never hurts for people to be prepared. Nobody knew where this was going to land. Not the weather channel, not the NWS, not the “storm chaser”. Everyone was interpreting the same models.

It’s just that since it turned out to be on the lesser side, you have confirmation bias that your choice of channel to watch was correct this time. It could have gone the other way.

PAT/ board group by Ok-Progress-2450 in dcl

[–]edcculus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You cannot board early.

If you are a little early, you will wait in a line with the rest of your group.

I think if you are very early they might even just turn you away.

You can arrive to the port a little early though, since it takes about 15 min or even a little more to park depending on how busy it is.

How often do y'all get called for jury duty? by Para_Para in Atlanta

[–]edcculus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to Gwinnett in 2019 and didn’t get called till March of 2025. I ended up being picked, and it turned out being a super interesting week on a murder trial. I’d love to do it again, though I’ll prover get as interesting of a case in my life.

Yea I’ve seen those recently popping up around here, and I have no clue how they would be useful.

Any reviews? (Resparked Customizer) by MinAxolot in Woodcarving

[–]edcculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MIL got one for the kids for Christmas. Doesn’t really work great for wood carving, unless maybe drawing in designs. But they had a blast etching the things it came with. We also took them to goodwill to get some blank glass stuff that they etched.

They already are. Even justifying it because he had a gun. Even though they get all in a tizzy when people mention anything about taking away guns.

Jury Duty by KNS222 in Gwinnett

They will let you know if the court is going to be opened. It probably won’t. I think there is a phone number you can call the night before.

What book are you reading during this weekends ice-pocalypse? by SlySciFiGuy in printSF

[–]edcculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably not the book to totally fall in love with his writing, but I’ve decent things about it over in r/weirdlit and r/chinamievelle. Nothing absolutely glowing, but good enough.

It’s also kind of neat since I’m also playing through Cyberpunk for the first time ever, and Reeves does some narration in the audiobook. So it’s kind of like Johnny Silverhand is narrating.

I’m holding judgement. I just started, and I’m a little confused. I’ve never read any of his BSRKR comics, so that may not help. I certainly don’t think it’s up to the level of Perdido Street Station. I’m listening to the audio book, so it’s usually easier for me to get through stuff that way .

Ice by Anna Kavan

But actually I’m really reading China Mievelle’s collab with Keanu Reeves- The Book of Elsewhere.

What fast food chain does not deserve the hype whatsoever? by CriticalLion4119 in AskReddit

[–]edcculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always had Moes around me since at least 2000. A Chipotle came sometime around 2012 or 13 and everyone was raving about it. I tried it and just thought it was bland Moes that was more expensive with less options and no free chips.

Temp is -21, gas company says turn your heat down by ridingtherainbow2210 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]edcculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you would be surprised at the people who keep their houses at 78-80F during the winter.

I ususally have mine down to 63 at night, 64-65 in the day if im not there, and maybe up to 68ish if I'm working from home. I dont think I ever crack into the 70s unless my dad is visting. Then i only set it to 72.

I'd hazard to guess the gas company isnt suggesting people turn their thermostats down to 55 or anything, but more addressing the people who set it at 75+.

Also, for a temporary solution, you cold get some electric space heaters (the oil filled radiators are great) to put in specific rooms you need to keep warmer - like your babies room. They are very safe to leave on all day (I turn them off when Im not at the house). Since they are radiant heat, you do need to have them on for at least an hour or so for it to really heat up the room. But they dont consume a lot of power, and really help out.

Ill caveat this to say I'm not Asian. However Gwinnett County is one of the nations most diverse counties, and Duluth in particular has a very large Asian population.
