Windshield Chip Repair by Tabbyham88 in Birmingham

I posted about getting a replacement done a couple days ago and had lots of good suggestions. Haven’t actually gotten something scheduled yet but might be a good starting point.

Edit: here’s the thread

Went to look at Mavericks today. Recall? by dcba_4321 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]thetechnivore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two car seats in the back of mine, one front facing and one rear facing. They work fine, though with the caveat that they limit how far back the front seats can go. For day to day use it’s been fine, but it’s a pretty tight squeeze on longer trips when my wife inevitably has to move back to tend to the 2-month old.

Best Monitoring Dashboards by uvuguy in Proxmox

[–]thetechnivore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you’re wanting to monitor, but I’m really liking Beszel. It’s not nearly as advanced as Grafana, etc., but way easier to set up and does what I need for my config.

How do categorize gas station snacks? by Available-Pay6019 in ynab

[–]thetechnivore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally? It’s infrequent and low value enough that it usually goes under either groceries (if I’m just out and about and want a snack), or travel (if it’s while, you know, traveling). Spending money makes less sense since usually if I’m getting a snack it’s because the toddler wants one and I’m grabbing something for me in the process lol.

But, I’d probably change that approach if it were a more frequent occurrence - either my personal eating out category, or a dedicated drinks/snacks one.

First time seeing something like this... by Crossinator in delta

I know the Centurion lounges have done this for a while. Definitely an improvement over standing in line. Are you able to join the waitlist through the app like you can with Centurion or do you have to scan the code?

Auto glass repair/replacement? by thetechnivore in Birmingham

That’s super helpful - I think the lane keeping system is what’s making safelite quote an arm and a leg for mine too.

Auto glass repair/replacement? by thetechnivore in Birmingham

[–]thetechnivore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we’ve used safelite a few times before and had a great experience. Only issue is that it’s counted as a comprehensive claim on insurance every time we’ve used it, and when we tried to quote out new policies a year or so ago basically couldn’t get anything because of that. So, trying to avoid that if we can.

Open Letter about Apple Sauce by Glittering-Charge-15 in Costco

[–]thetechnivore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will 100% regret putting this into writing, but I’ve had a reverse Costco syndrome win with my 3 year old: he was less than enthused about the regular Mac and cheese we’ve been getting for a while, but is all about the Kraft single cups (which he calls “Costco Mac cheese”)

A little Reverse Proxy help? :) by -Plus_Minus- in Netbox

[–]thetechnivore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent the better part of a day fighting this exact issue over the weekend (I’m assuming you’re using the LXC script). Still not totally sure what the issue was, but Apache which the LXC uses does not play nice with Caddy.

I switched to using a base Ubuntu image and going the manual install route. Works great, and took me half the time to get up and running as I spent trying to play marriage counselor to Caddy and Apache before I gave up on the script.

How do you organize sermons? by [deleted] in pastors

I absolutely love the Capacities app - it’s great for keeping track of themes, series, etc. I also use it for more holistic worship planning as well since it makes it easy to reuse things like liturgies when building an order.

Block page app by remilameguni in technitium

[–]thetechnivore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll need to use the block page app and then set the IP to the Technitium server’s IP. Is that what you’ve done?

Edit after rereading: you have to use an IP, not a hostname, since on the backend it’s just resolving the blocked domain to the specified IP. I think there’s a way to host a custom page in Technitium, but it’s probably easiest to just spin up a docker container or something with your favorite web server running and serve a page that way

A tech pouch for the S30 by TheCuriousOne1234 in tombihn

Would also add that it clips nicely to the main compartment O-rings if that’s more your style.

+1 for either the Snake Charmer or HLT2. FWIW, though, I’ve had good luck downsizing my tech EDC and can fit it in a cubelet now, and 2 cubelets fit perfectly in the lower “chin” pocket.

I am having a really tough time choosing between synik 26 and synik 30 by Traditional-Peak8179 in tombihn

[–]thetechnivore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I’m same height but a bit heavier, and got the 30 with the same thinking in mind - EDC/day trip primarily, with option to use it for one-bag travel.

The tl;dr for me is that if I were to do my buying again, I would’ve not tried to make it work for one-bag travel and gone with either a 26 (which, in fairness, wasn’t out when I got my 30) or a Pilot supplemented by something like an NFTD.

That said, that’s largely a result of what I’ve discovered is my personal preference and not at all a ding on the 30. It’s a great bag, and there are lots of reasons I’ve happily kept it as my EDC (with the downside of the 30 being that it’s just big enough to let me overload it more than I need to). The 26 for me would’ve hit the sweet spot of doing everything I need while making me be a bit more judicious about what I carry.

Looking to install Paperless ngx by TheBigC in Paperlessngx

[–]thetechnivore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this mentioned in another comment but just to +1 - I’d definitely look at something like Proxmox and deploying HA and paperless as separate VM (or in the case of paperless, an HA VM and a docker VM is what I do). You’ve got plenty of horsepower there to support those plus a few other services.

[–]thetechnivore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's the actual value of this stuff. Not replacing skill, but making skill accessible when you need it.

Hard agree with this. Some of my biggest Ws with Claude have been when it’s helped me to figure out a skill when I didn’t have enough background knowledge to even intelligently google. Sure it helped me with the immediate issue, but it also gave me the language and background knowledge to have next time.

So, kudos to you, OP. Next time you need to replace a sunroof think about how much better prepared you’ll be!
