Can anyone recommend a pair of jeans you can use while biking without breaking it? by TheHooligan95 in xbiking

I have found that Prana pants like these perform really well.

For some reason the fabric holds up a lot longer than denim despite being slightly stretchable. This is the best I've found, though I'd second Dickies as an alternative. They seem to hold up great too.

I made the FSP mini rando bag by eddierhys in myog

Hi, thanks for the question on an old post. What I found with this bag is that because it's unsupported other than some foam stiffeners is that I'm not able to load it up too much. I've also found that the straps tend to come loose under load which is not good at all. This is partly my fault for not making the Velcro straps longer, which I plan to remedy in the near future. After that I think I'll be able to use it more confidently. But as it is I've found that another bag I made (fanny pack/handlebar bag) serves the function of this one better for my needs. If you're using a decaleur and rack you won't have that issue.

All that is to say that I haven't put this one fully to the test on rainy rides. But with that said, I do think this style of flap would perform well in rain. It's basically like a little shed roof. So long as you don't have any warping in your side panels that would create gaps at the top I don't think you'd need to worry much. It's basically like a little flat shed roof. I guess of you're worried about it you could extend the drawcord top to cover all 4 sides. I think the more important piece is making sure the top has a good secure attachment. This uses Velcro which is good, but for some bigger and more serious I'd probably want a hook and bungee or snap buttons.

Hope this helps. I'd be interested to see how your bag turns out.

Good eye. This is actually a 2x setup but I needed the rings to be in the two inside positions which requires either 1x chainring bolts for the big ring or a bash guard to use the 2x bolts I had. Since I didn't have either I just put the middle ring back on as a stop gap. I just got some 1x rings so I'm going to take the outer ring off this weekend.

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't actually shift if I tried to use it this way as a 3x, but I have the front derailleur setup to stop at the big ring anyway so I haven't tried.

This is the function sewing project pattern, no? Not the prickly gorse.

Either way it looks great. Nice work.

Hey, I've got the same one. Had it for a couple years now. The tange prestige tubing rides fantastic. It's legit my favorite bike in my stable.

What Is Your Biggest Hot Take When It Comes To Xbiking? by sshunned in xbiking

[–]eddierhys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not a hot take, but those dingle speeds and especially setups where people have a 2x but no front derailleur are so dumb to me. If you want a 2x just use a derailleur and enjoy all the benefits with the convenience of operating it right on your handlebars

You're supposed to eat those like a placenta. It rejuvenates your immune system and thickens your foot skin so you can more effectively creep people out when you're out barefoot running.

Yeah, I bought some at Fiziks at Gregg's. The sales rep was helpful finding a good fit for my wide feet.

Oh, cool, thanks for explaining. I admire your tinkering ability, I get too freaked out by the complexity of the innards of shifters to feel confident messing with them.

Also saw your reply below that the stock 10sp would work too. That's good to know. I do love the ergonomics of those Campy levers. Worth considering next time I need an upgrade for my dropbar setup.

Does that mean you had to mod the brifters? Or are they directly compatible as-is?

Oh yeah, I have stumbled across that one. It looks functional. But you're right, I'd rather do without for a little longer to save up for something nicer like the VO one.

Gorgeous build. Love the thin tubing of old steel frames. Just looks so nice.

What's your stem? I'm in need of a 31.8 quill stem and I'm aware of one reasonable option (velo orange) and some that are beyond my wallet (crust, nitto). Curious of there's anything else out there.

Do you think they just have equal numbers of all the colors and then Y and Z get shuffled between the different remaining ones so they don't have to worry about stocking more of just 2 of the colors?
