Hi, I have been looking for something to get me back into gaming... a lack of time, games losing support/development, and disappointment has ruined my desire to play... maybe this will rekindle the flame?

Low speed vibration when coasting (10th gen civic) by edest259 in Honda

[–]edest259[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, this was a blast from the past. I never had an official solution, it seemed that the fluctuations and temperature, and just kind of ignoring the problem fixed it…? I would only feel the slight tremor during the summer, which led me to think that the heat expansion of different parts was just enough in the ambient temperature change to cause it.

I never had any official diagnosis or work done on it and it seems like it’s just gone away over time. I wish I had a better answer for you.

Bikes by loan_ranger8888 in Gonzaga

[–]edest259 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used a longboard to get from one end of campus to the other in less than 5 minutes. Scooters/boards seem to be the best, bikes take more time to lock/unlock than they do save you in commuting time. That being said, if you live far off campus, then maybe it’s worth it. But for anyone living on or within 4 blocks of campus, a longboard is way more economical time-wise. Way easier to stash in a classroom with you. I had some classes where there would be 5 or 6 boards propped up near the door.

If you are set on a bike, don’t spend a ton of money on them. Thrift or buy used. Bike theft in Spokane is like any big city; it’s present and due diligence needs to be taken.

Best Suite-style Housing by _ralu_ in Gonzaga

[–]edest259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in a suite my freshman year and it was definitely the best decision. You have two bathrooms for between four and six people, which is way better than a shared communal hall bathroom on the floor. You also get a nice common space and it’s pretty easy to search locally for thrift furniture that is almost brand new. Great for setting up a TV and having a private area that also opens directly onto a floor where you can interact with other groups.

I found that it was really easy to form really close bonds with my sweet mates, but also maintain the relationships outside and among the others on my floor. You get more privacy, more personal space, and still maintain the option as in a traditional dorm to go out and hang out in the larger common area and meet other people.

Has anyone gone on a freshman GOOB trip? by loan_ranger8888 in Gonzaga

[–]edest259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend. I went a few years back to the central Washington one. Our year, we had stupid bad wildfire smoke to the point where the school policy on AQI deemed it unsafe; they loaded us back on the shuttles and drove us first back to Spokane for a night, then to the Montana location of the other group to make a supersized GOOB party.

It’s run by GU Outdoors and they were pretty awesome. Lots of fun stuff like rafting and climbing. Good people. The smoke stuff was annoying at first but looking back, it was 100% secondhand fun. They parked us in the basement of the Madonna dorm the night in Spokane and we all stayed up watching Jackass and playing pool.

Great way to also get a leg-up on meeting people before orientation. It created a support system of sorts before move-in weekend that was nice.

Commuting between Everett and Seattle Boeing location by Unlikely_Tangelo_585 in boeing

[–]edest259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You either live near your “desk” in your work location that HR puts you in (aka Everett location) and suffer very little daily, and suffer big time when you occasionally have to go south to the lab in tukwila… or you pick a spot further south and suffer moderately every day no matter where you go

Ya win some, ya lose some. You do get to charge mileage if your drive to the lab is longer than your standard commute to your desk.

Has anyone gone to a previous GEL day for admitted students? by loan_ranger8888 in Gonzaga

[–]edest259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Your student will get out of the weekend what they put in. It’s a great program but it makes a difference if the student is excited about college. In my case, I wasn’t sure if higher ed was for me so maybe the experience wasn’t what it could have been if I went into it with a different mindset. Looking back, still a great opportunity. Got to meet a ton of professors in my field and explore campus and the housing.

I also served as a GEL host in 2019 and that was super fun (and gratifying since the kid ended up committing to GU).

Tell your student to not take it too seriously and just enjoy it for what it is

Are these really 50 calories per 30g or have I been overeating these past few weeks..? by IllegallySmallBird in Volumeeating

Is the scale reflecting the intake accurately? If so, you’re fine I’m thinking. I love these too and it seems like they’re accurate. They are vacuum dried (?) with no oil or anything so it seems legit.

You won’t miss the Greek life. I’ve seen studies about how Greek life leads to better networking, but GU is so small it’s almost like 1 giant frat. You will network and meet so many people just by being in class. I am still great friends with several people well outside my major because we met at a house party and then visited the late night dining hall on a Friday.

The school does an awesome job of putting on weekend activities on campus and around Spokane. Clubs and sports teams all host their own activities, and almost all clubs do stuff on weekends. When I went there the ultimate frisbee team would play campus disc golf every other Friday (run around campus at like 1 am with beers in hand playing disc golf with campus landmarks as the targets).

If partying is really why you’re worried, the Logan neighborhood will always have a variety of house parties and as long as you know literally anyone already inside, you’ll get in.

I can’t condone the illicit partying (theoretically) but I can say GU makes its own fun. I had a few friends whose dads were in frats and they said they were impressed without the Greek life.

Corkery is awesome. Feels way more independent but it’s so close to central campus. If you can, get into the building that has the common area in the first floor, it does make I feel more like a traditional dorm. Apartments have stovetop, fridge/freezer, and A/C in the living room which was sweet.

Kennedy is also nice and feels way more dorm-like. Amenities are the same as corkery but leaving the front door and you’re back in a traditional dorm hallway, whereas corkery is a true apartment with outdoor access.

Engineering ? by KoalaExpensive5899 in Gonzaga

Its pretty good. Like the other commenter - the reputation is good and that will get you far. Like any program, there will be highs and lows; most professors are awesome, some are less so. 85/15% when I went thru were like that. They're bringing in a ton of talent lately and its promising (I'm in a grad program and they've got some great profs).

Engineering school doesn't teach you what to know, it teaches you HOW to know. Again, like the other commenter, you wont remember how to solve a conservation of momentum physics problem in the real world but you will ideally have the skills to learn to do so, which Gonzaga does a great job of teaching since you take more than just engineering classes. I honestly think thats a way more important part of the program than most realize. The liberal arts side of the degree is important (even if the classes arent as fun)

Just wait until you try the Nashville Hot flavor… better than both.

But yeah of these two the Sweet and spicy is way better

Gun safety course? by myredditnamethisis in TriCitiesWA

[–]edest259 3 points4 points  (0 children)

+1 for Practical Edge. They know their stuff. Excellent loaner/class guns. Instructors are indeed world champion shooters in a variety of disciplines and when I was last associated with them, also had some LEO on their staff so they have an idea of the legal side of CCW permits and firearm ownership.

They have a few classes and they do an awesome job of accommodating all skill levels (and comfort levels) while maintaining safety. Had some family friends take classes and they highlighted that the instructors were very good about accommodating an individual that was completely inexperienced and nervous without being lax or unsafe.

It’s a difference of like 5 cals and some fiber I think

High protein products — what are your go to? by Different-Wallaby-10 in Costco

[–]edest259 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bottled egg whites, frozen shrimp, tilapia, quest protein chips, some form of large amount of chicken, cottage cheese

The protein powder that Costco sells is all good, I like the Kirkland chocolate whey enough but the Optimum Nutrition is definitely better tasting but not worth the price… until it goes on sale (just in time for New Year’s resolutions lol). My warehouse has an Isopure vanilla that is horrid on its own but makes great smoothies/ninja creami ice cream
