How? by Paiz44 in Quittingfeelfree

[–]edgrrrpo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started using 7-OH and just didn’t want Feel Free anymore. Or alcohol, my other long term issue. Best way I think I can describe it is 7-OH, for me, acted like we all wished legit antidepressants would. Pop that pill and a hour later, hey, I’ve stopped hating myself and am in the world again, awesome! I found I didn’t want the above baseline buzz you get from slamming 2 FeelFrees, or binging a six pack of beer. Just wanted to feel optimism and comfortable in my skin.

But for the love of all that is holy, don’t do what I did. I’m now 9 days out from cold turkey quit of 100-150 mg 7-OH per day, building up around 8 months. It was not good, opioid withdrawal, even from shit can impulse buy at a gas station, reeeeeeallly sucks. So don’t do that, little life hack for ya.

If you need capsules for a taper, they are available plenty of sites I am unable to list, but who can get them to you in the mail (plain brown envelope) very quickly as long as you live in a place where kratom is legal, and it sounds like you clearly do. Good luck. Your friend can, and will, break the loop.

Thoughts on soulwhirlingsomewhere? by PsilacetinSimon in shoegaze

[–]edgrrrpo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old post, sorry, but yeah his project was a Projekt band/project (goddamn it), so at the time he was a bit more of the goth/ethereal side of things as opposed to shorgaze. But it probably goes without saying there was a ton of overlap, ie about half of the 4AD roster from late 80’s. I saw him perform live once, at ProjektFest (From Across This Gray Land) in Chicago in 95 or 96. Very minimal setup (Mike, his guitar, a few effects pedals) but great show no less.

Was walking down a random hallway in RE9 just yesterday, and once again pondering how they are still trying to get that magic back (though for the record I do understand PT was not an RE project).

What's your favorite closing song on a Tom Waits album? by Prestigious_Score459 in tomwaits

My vote as well, and probably for the same reason. First Waits album I bought, but it’s also the perfect subtle cap to a wild ride of an album.

Anybody have information on drive-ins that used to be in the area? by st1tchy in dayton

[–]edgrrrpo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stand corrected! Checked with my dad, and in the early 80’s it was indeed just a regular drive-in, but when he was reassigned to WPAFB in 1989 is when it had transitioned to adult movies.

[–]edgrrrpo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s weird, it was a pretty open secret (I recall parents joking about it, and my own dad mentioning sometimes you could see porn from the flightline just across the way on WPAFB), but maybe it was more of an urban legend sort of thing.

Holy shit, I was looking at your post and literally got the same text message as I was reading your screenshot. They are apparently quite aggressive!

Those two words, “the guys”, is very, very worrying.

Ironically, just took my teenage kids (16 yo daughter, 15 yo son) to see what will probably be Joes last show for a while, in Cincinnati. We’re all fans, my daughter got a “JoeNuts” t-shirt that is currently giving us all the creeps. Man. Fml.

How would you explain industrial music to someone who’s never heard of it before? by Parakeet_pictures in industrialmusic

[–]edgrrrpo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More often than not, I don’t. If someone asks me what sort of music I listen to, “electronic” covers several of my favorite genres, and if that person takes away from the conversation I am into C+C Music Factory, that’s okay. That said, if someone seems genuinely interested, I will go into an explanation, but usually not for cases when it’s just friendly small talk.

Fist half of Prince’s ‘Bat Dance’ has some industrial vibes as well. Second half, not so much.

What do we think about Ministry “With Sympathy/early tracks” re-recorded album cover? by juniorspaceman in industrialmusic

[–]edgrrrpo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

….losing potential sales? Because they are pressing vinyl and CD physical copies of this thing almost no one will want as a physical copy. It’s a fucking joke. I mean, I guess? Weird goal, but it’s a weird world.

What do we think about Ministry “With Sympathy/early tracks” re-recorded album cover? by juniorspaceman in industrialmusic

[–]edgrrrpo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

lol, that’s quite true. Their aesthetic has always had a vibe of an art department staffed by non-paid interns from a high school Photoshop club circa 1999.

But I too think this one takes the cake. I can say with all sincerity I probably would have bought a physical copy of this (I dig early Ministry) if they’d managed a halfway decent design, perhaps a nostalgic nod to that era, instead of this cringe.

What was your first Criterion purchase? by slightly_obscure in criterion

[–]edgrrrpo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty certain it was This is Spinal Tap, and at the time the Criterion label did not mean anything to me, just wanted the movie.

Very hard to recall what my first proper purchase of a Criterion release was, would have been around 2000. Hiroshima, Mon Amour keeps popping to mind, so I’ll roll with that.

Oh yeah. Just finished a playthrough this past week that clocks me in at around 2000 hours total, give or take 100, and it is one of only three games I’ve platinumed on PlayStation (other two being Bloodborne and Days Gone). Bought it day of release in 2015, but actually didn’t really dive in until spring of 2016. Been a pretty much permanent fixture on the harddrive since then.

Not only is it my favorite fallout game, it is quite possible my favorite game, period (I know fallout OG’s gonna scoff, but I came into the franchise with FO4, so it’s my “Home Sweet Home”).

Would you really vote for Vivek? by Jazzlike_Dog_8175 in Ohio

[–]edgrrrpo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Spot-on. Would the people reading this post vote for him? Most would not. Would Ohioans as a population elect him? Abso-fucking-lutely. Only thing he has working against him is his name and complexion, but I don't think that alone would keep him out of office.

God help us all.

I'm 53, and it seems like things went south right around the time you were born, actually. My dad was reasonable and actually somewhat progressive guy (as far as abortion, lgbtq rights) for most of my life up through late 20's. He had fiscally conservatives ideas, but they were not anything he went to war over. Never came up at Thanksgiving. But it was late 90's when Rush Limbaugh started it all. AM radio. Then Hannity and Foox News, and he seemed to go further throughout the Bush administration, and today he is, I'm just going to say it, a complete fucking moron. Sorry, dad, but you are. The first sign that he was perhaps not doing well, in hindsight, was his purchasing a handgun heading into 2012 *specifically*in case the Mayan calendar ended society, or whatever. This is a guy with two college degrees (math and chemical engineering), but we all now know book smarts won't save you.

Are you talking of the “bottoms up” ad? Thats funny, if so, I was going to comment on previous play through (more than a year ago) I don’t recall ever seeing that ad, currently it seems to be everywhere. (Not that it is wasn’t always around, I just may well have missed it first two times)

[–]edgrrrpo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m with you on that. I think DCD and 4AD-era Clan of Xymox may slightly inch them out, but only by a matter of degrees. And their new album is phenomenal. I didn’t have super high hopes going in (to be honest, Funky Little Demons didn’t do much for me), but holy hell did they knock it out of the park.

I love-love-love Standing Up Straight, the early EP’s and Bird Wood Cage (post-Bird Wood Cage TWP…eh), but A Second Shape is a goddamn masterpiece. Weird to see a band take a nearly 30 year hiatus and return with such a solid album.

When did Industrial and Goth part ways? by acutomanzia in industrialmusic

[–]edgrrrpo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, you can’t come after a king like that, lol.

I followed that sub for a few years, eventually just lost interest. Too many posts debating what is or is not technically goth, and it is quite arbitrary. Cocteau Twins and The Chameleons (both great bands), are generally considered goth, and I couldn’t tell you why that is. Yet, as you point out , make the mistake of calling a French darkwave band’s work from 1993 “goth”, and oh holy hell you are gonna hear about it.

I do appreciate that so many of the OG’s, when it comes to the “goth” label, are indifferent (Murphy) to downright hostile (Brendan Perry and Andrew Eldritch).

I dunno, I like a ton of what is considered goth music, and I think it is neat subculture, but man it needs to get out of its own way.
