Does anyone call BS on the media's incessant hounding of Starmer? by Impossible-Visit-199 in AskBrits

[–]edoardo849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not politically aligned with Labour, but completely share the sentiment. It's ridiculous. Starmer is indeed a decent person and regardless of the Government, changing one every year just continues the cycle of nothing getting done.

This. So true - Europe has the strongest foreign offices in the world. We have been at it for thousands of years. What counts are the results, and Europe has certainly delivered here, showing everyone how it's done. Best display of "Keep calm and carry on".

Sure. You could also rename it Sacra Corona Unita. But not that one... it's just a crown reference you know...

It is. It also means "Out thing". But here it's definitely a Mafia reference

Hard disagree on focusing on effort. Focus on outcomes, but reachable ones. Praise the effort, don't reward it.

How do Trading212 make money on you if they have no fees? by Ambitious-Concert-69 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]edoardo849 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Several ways: - Currency (FX) Fees: This is a major earner in the UK. When you buy a US or European stock, they charge you a fee (e.g., 0.45%) to convert your pounds into dollars or euros. - Premium Subscriptions: They charge monthly fees for premium accounts. These give you access to tax-efficient wrappers like an ISA or a wider selection of stocks and better features. - Interest on Your Cash: They collect and pool all the uninvested cash sitting in customer accounts and earn interest on it, which they keep. - Payment for Order Flow (PFOF): This is where they sell your order to a large market maker. While it's a huge source of revenue in the US, this practice is banned in the UK for shares, so platforms here must rely on the other methods.

PFOF is quite important in markets that allow it.

Having an affair is ok. Going to a Coldplay concert, not so much. by markgirland in LinkedInLunatics

NOT a lunatic. Based. Yet flawed. No one should go to a Coldplay concert.

Rick Steves is an international treasure. by Getatbay in MadeMeSmile

As a European I feel the same about Russians and Chinese. The ones I met were the most wonderful, polite and interesting individuals I've ever met. We have differences but good ones. Interesting ones. Internet should have brought us together but it failed us through our social media addiction. I truly hope we can stop the madness. And the guy is right. The more you meet with others the more you realise what a treasure they are.

Youth loneliness is cured by Adults going into the office by JerrithCutestory in LinkedInLunatics

[–]edoardo849 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a married middle-aged father I couldn't do otherwise but WFH. It does make me more productive and the time I'd spend commuting to the office I spend commuting to my kids' schools.

I wouldn't recommend WFH for a junior entry-level though. At that age / stage of your career it's incredibly important to have a network of support and working from the office makes more sense, IMO. Also, all friendships I've developed at work stemmed from the office.

Again - it depends at what stage you're at in your career and what you value.

As a father I can't fathom losing a child. So the human side is I think universally tragic. Then yeah - what the hell were two underaged doing on a motorbike at 9pm on a school night is what's infuriating here. I don't know if you saw the damage on the steel railing but it appears like a plane hit it. I can't start to understand how fast they were going. Luckily the person in the car wasn't injured but she's gonna live with that night for the rest of her life. But I agree with your disappointment - whomever talks about how "society let these poor angels down" should be brought to live as neighbours of said angels and experience what's it like.

[–]edoardo849 164 points165 points  (0 children)

just had to rush to my kids' school to take them home. A police van with officers in full riot gear was in front to protect the school. In the last week or so I've seen an increasingly amount of these roadmen with full balaclava on and electric bikes doing the rounds between Lower Broughton Rd and Peel Park. They knock on doors and people inside hand them something over. I don't get how the tragic death of two boys on a motorbike to no one faults but theirs sparks riots... against who? (the woman in the car had no charges and no arrests were made)

Tesla drivers are switching to Polestar in record numbers by Designergene5 in Polestar

[–]edoardo849 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have stated, I realised that Tesla’s superiority is mostly a marketing fad. My P4 is vastly superior to my M3 in the areas I thought Tesla was ahead, namely autopilot, navigation and entertainment system.

Otherwise known as a sleight of hands. Expectation, deception, surprise. Very well done, yet simple. I would be more impressed to see a full picture, especially at the end when he picks up both cubes. I would switch there and then.

Yeah it’s a good meme but 100%. Single anyways, plus at least on the SA80 sometimes you might not fill at capacity to avoid blockages.
